@starty.......you deserve a medal having to sit through that. I've just seen clips and Piers Morgan has walked away from Good Morning Britain. He's always been a gob-shite but I quite liked him.

Yeah Jacks that dope he argued with who kept bringing the conversation back to him & racism wouldn't answer the question.
Megan WAS wrong & led people to believe the Queen was racist and wouldn't give the baby a title.

Funny y 'know, re the workplace, I was in a Zoom earlier on and Micromanagers Inc. were blagging on and on about things that need to be done whilst devising the single most complicated way to go about it. I started to launch and then thought, why? I'm not going to be here.
So, in response to the micro-managers, what I started to do some time ago was play them at their own game. Push everything back to them with more and more (meaningless) questions and clarifications. I have just found that if it becomes incumbent upon THEM to do something they become somewhat less convinced of the validity of the task. So, it is control that they are after, not results.

In a couple of months they can have their sheltered workshop to themselves. And I will be changing my phone number, first task out of the gate.

Does that explain what a micro manager is, JC? lol

I'm sorry to hear about the eyeball woes JC. I know how uncomfy it is. My eye specialist tells me to go hard on the drops (Systane el al, which have no other effect but rehydration)

I saw Harry on James Corden recently. He went to the house where Fresh Prince of Bel-Air was filmed and asked the owner if he could use her toilet because he 'needed a wee'. I couldn't help but think that he had burnt a few bridges there... I hope she's worth it too Satz.

So, regarding creativity with titles I think "Unforgotten" shows they are trying. In their micro managing workshops I can imagine the convo "Young Bridge from Oz says more creativity needed" "So, we drop the "The" Yeah? K, done. Anyhoo, Unforgotten is brill

Whats their reason for dumping you Bridge? I have never known anyone to regret redundancy. A chunk of wedge and opportunity to lead a different life. Win win

I use Hycosan for dry eye. The Extra in the red pack is the absolute best and recommended by my optician

Good morning everyone. Where are you watching those? Checked for one or two on Netflix and they did not come up. Will have another look later, need something new to watch. Just get a portion of the crochet pattern on a Friday and I had it done by Sunday, really enjoyed this week, it was waves. I agree with Starty, everyone I know who has taken the package and early retirement never regretted it. Hubby due to retire in three years. Think he might have tried to leave early but this working from home and no travel makes life so much easier. Thinking of you Molly, waves to everyone else, got to walk the doggies.

Oh god I could have written that. My job just got bigger and bigger and more complex each day it seemed. I struggled and felt inadequate because I felt I couldnt keep up although the powers that be seemed to rate me well. It took me 2 years from about 54 onwards to decide enough was enough and ask for part time.

THAT is exactly how I felt Starts. We are still well capable of the job but really not prepared any more to sacrifice our work/life balance.
The younger upstarts are ready to do what we used to do - so that is why we feel overwhelmed.
I'm not sure if if it's a ploy by management or just a natural progression?
With me it was a new manager bitch from Scotland that pushed & pushed determined to make me fail. I was pitted against a young guy in his 20's who worked every hour God sent.
I had the experience to do the job but couldn't muster up the enthusiasm and the fact around the time YS presented with his drink problems.

I couldn't wait to RUN out of the place I'd loved working in for 21 of the 23 years. I only thing I missed was the community charity work that came with being on the Sports & Social Club committee.

They reckon they don't need my position (me) any more Starts. So they centralised all of the positions and will be expecting about a quarter of the staff to do the same things that the previous cohort did. The wheels are already falling off and nobody has even left yet. I would not want to be one of the 'lucky' ones left behind m'dear. I wouldn't. I remember when you applied to go part time. i'm sure it was the best thing you've done in recent years bar none. They say that the youngers will pick it all up. I hope they're right...I can always be a creative series namer. Having said that, our best effort this year was called The Dry. lol.

Agree Satzy, there is something about being this age that just makes you want to slow down. I think I'm capable of doing what I've always done, but I don't bloody well want to. Maybe Covid has also taught us a thing or two about life being too short.

Rustop, if I could continue to work from home I be glad of it like your hubby It really does take some of the exasperation away form the daily grind, but you still have to talk to them!

OK I better start wrapping up for the night like a true old person. The boy started a new job today and it will stop me from amking noise before his 5.30am start. I was thinking I'd get up with him. It will be a good restart for me as well (see Atomic Habits!)

I'm so happy I escaped from the bank and ended in a little firm (the wine merchants) where we just pitched in when something needed doing.

[MENTION=9094]satz123[/MENTION]...............the reason Archie hasn't been made a prince is due to George V way, way back in 1917.............if you're bored there's a mass of reading if you can be arsed but basically, Queen Victoria had about 300 children and it was getting ridiculous finding each of them a 'title' so he decided a child of a monarch would be a prince or princess. The end or if you like Mr. JC's got the day off (YAY) and I can let him explain........he did it at posh boy school. Our Queenie has been cutting back on all titles.

I woke up at 3:45 am with a really painful hand..........only two and a half weeks to go before I have another chat with my doctor about whether I need steroid injections. I've been wearing my arm splints like a the good girl I am. Took pain killer and went back to bed and nearly died of fright when my alarm went off. Haven't set an alarm for over a year now.

Good luck JC. Seems to be helping, just heard on the radio that one of our border counties with previously very high numbers had zero cases yesterday. Have prime, will check it out, loved The Dig. Watched the new RTÉ drama last night, now it could be that I was tired but good God, the family relationships were complicated, hard to keep up. Saw a comment on Facebook that you would need honours maths to keep up so I must not be the only one.

Definitely an age thing at work. I see my manager and her manager getting their knickers in a twist ticking boxes to look good in the US. Can’t be arsed, do what I am paid to do and as I point out only being there two days makes a lot of the stuff irrelevant to me. Not getting into it. I am definitely at an age where I only do what I feel like doing. Not drinking makes it all more enjoyable. Reading (remembering what I read), watching Netflix (same), crocheting (not having to rip back) walking ( clear head and being able to enjoy nature). Lot to be thankful for.

I think its part and part ploy and natural progression. For us its NP and the powers realise that. They possibly feel us departing mentally from the job and know that it wont change. I have not had that regarding someone out to make me fail thankfully but I have had nutter managers who are pretty difficult to work for. Plus it was me who felt incapable. The youngsters trying to score points did not help at all and made me feel worse. I have never stayed in a role as long as that. 13 yrs my max and for me that was too long. This co I have been at 10 years and my enthusiasm has left the building now.

Bridge your co sounds awful. Best out of it. Pronto. I wouldnt even be attending their silly meetings I think let alone suggesting anything.

Rustop absolutely spot on. For a while after going part time I tried to hang on and be more part of it but not now. Have let go and dont want to know anything anymore. Just do my job and leave it at the office or in the laptop in my case. Rich was just saying this morning he is so grateful; and happy that we are both at home so much these days.
