Re: Spring Army Manoeuvres - March 21

satz123.......thanks for the start-up and enjoy your walk.

starty.......been aware of the dog-napping for a while. Mr JC always used to tie Bess outside the paper shop when he got our daily paper........we wouldn't dream of doing it now.
There are also the people that bought/obtained a dog when we were under stricter lockdown..............meant you could go out more than once a day for your 'exercise '. They're now being abandoned.

Permission to kick their stoopid backsides into next week.

Got a gippy tummy today...........blaming the Chinese take out I had last night.
It could be worse, I could be filing.

Good morning everyone. Hope the tummy improves JC. A lot of dog napping going on here too, dreadful thing to do but with the price of dogs, especially the designer ones it is not surprising. Heard of someone paying €850 last week for a mongrel puppy, madness. We live well in off the road but would never leave them outside if we are not here. Have not paid a penny for any of ours, costing me a fortune to keep them though and they are irreplaceable.

Not as nice here this morning, dropped the car off, walked the dogs and now have to do the dreaded grocery shop.

Been out TWICE with Rosie today.
I'm really feeling it these last few weeks looking for things to do that doesn't involve eating, cooking too fancy or cleaning.
The house is a tip but I've lost 15 lbs on the programme I told yiz about. I'm trying to lose another stone before the wedding so the shaggin' dress will fit - so need to get out of the house to stop picking at stuff which is what got me in this position in the first place

Big outing tomorrow to collect the wedding dress in Mullinger :yay:

Our government suspended the vaccine programme that was shite anyway - we've 3% of the population done. FFS!!
Now 7 days suspension for some ridiculous reason of 4 people in Finland or Iceland or somewhere getting clots - Jesus.

17 died yesterday of COVID.
30,000 had their shots suspended so more deaths for the next few weeks - WHY ??????......:cuss:

I have bought an alarm, a carabiner to attach to the lead, not walking the same route regularly and making sure the dogs are not left alone in the garden. I also make sure the doors are locked at all times. It is really shit that we have to do this stuff to protect ourselves and our animals from scrotes but there it is
@starty Lots of talk over here about women not being able to walk alone without fear of attack either physical or verbal. That men never dreamed we had to do.
About the things we automatically do to stay safe that men don't do. Including bringing a dog, pepper spray, pretend you are on the phone, pulling up a hood (so they don't know if you are man or woman). Now we have to think about the dog being stolen from us too - Jesus !

There was a recent case of a young guy trying to bundle a 69 year old woman into the boot of his car early in the morning ..... wtf is wrong with them ?

One of the most debilitating ways to live is in fear. Look into a women’s self defense class. Start on You Tube There are some good video instructions there. It’s relatively easy for anyone at any age. Pepper spray only works under optimal conditions. Any positive steps you can take are extremely empowering. Not sure these are legal in the UK but check out taser.com. Blessings x
Outside of a dog a book is mans best friend. Inside of a dog its too dark to read

That is absolutely mental. I do hope she is OK.

Techie I am thinking of getting a walking stick so I can wack any bstard round the head who comes into me or my dogs personal space. Tasers and sprays not legal over here

Re: Spring Army Manoeuvres - March 21

It is a shame that the vaccine roll-out isn't going so well in the EU. The US failed miserably for the past year but finally is stepping up with the vaccinations. I had my second one today and am looking forward to visiting my parents in a couple weeks. I hope the EU figures things out quickly. Our upcoming problem will be all the people who decline vaccination, leaving us short of herd immunity. And the thing is, this isn't a country-specific problem. We need for this to be handled well throughout the WORLD.

I agree with all your comments about women not feeling safe. And you're right, Techie, that learning self-defense is a good idea - but we shouldn't HAVE to do that.

I read a Twitter thread awhile ago about what women would do if they knew they were safe. It was heart-breaking. No one wanted to do anything wild and dangerous but wanted to do things like sit alone at night on the beach and gaze at the moon or not stay up after a night out with girlfriends waiting for all the "I'm safe at home" texts to arrive.

Satz, I've been thinking about you since you posted that your son is struggling again. I'm so sorry.

I listened to this today about the increasing incidence of alcoholic liver disease, in this case in young women: Alcoholic Liver Disease Sharply Rising Among Young Women, U.S. Doctors Say : Shots - Health News : NPR

Does he worry about this type of thing?

I did for awhile, sort of in the middle of my time addicted but I wasn't frightened out of the addiction and by the end, I really didn't care about anything one way or the other.

Fantastic you lost a stone! Well done.

I think the EU are really struggling with their vax programme. All seems to be political. We apparently are going to have a "lumpy" supply over the next month cos India want to keep enough back for themselves. Dont bloody blame them really

Thanks Techie - it's more the fear of it. Men are typically stronger than women - they often travel in packs - so no matter what you do you can be overpowered.
I think because there are so many lunatics out there - I would always be on alert when out alone. I'm not sure that will ever change.

PS
I'm in Ireland not UK. We are separated by a large body of water and a lot of history
I have no idea about tasers - I'd carry one - legal or not - if I had to travel on late night public transport as some young women need to.

For Ireland.........
Crossbows may be licensed as restricted firearms; other kinds of bow do not require a licence. ... Stun guns of all kinds require a firearms licence to own in Ireland; as self-defence is not a Good Reason for application under the Commissioner's Guidelines, it would be very unlikely for such an application to succeed.
Although I now have an image of you like Robin Hood with a longbow and a quiver around your waist.
For the UK.......
Possession of a stun gun is illegal in the UK. They are governed by the Firearms Act 1968
Mr. JC and I have had our first jab.....so we're roundabout 80% safe.......next and final one in a couple of weeks. There's around 25 million had their first jab. The UK are ticking along nicely apart from the delay from India which is about a week or so. Its the mainland EU who have their knickers in a twist.

Having had a dodgy tummy all day I've been reading all sorts.

Well done on your jabs JC's

The Irish wouldn't want to hold our breath waiting for the jab !!

Lots of bows and arrows in this house - we've an archery range. Id need some handbag to carry one of those around :haha:

Brilliant that you protected now JackieClaire. Hard to know what direction the virus will take once most of the population has a vaccine, like NS says, some wont get the vaccine. What about 6 months time, will it start to lose its effectiveness? The spanish flu died out after a few years I think.
brit, thinking about you tomorrow X

HE got 6 years. She was a swimming teacher, very fit, long hair (thought she was a young one). Was able to fight back.
