Good morning everyone. Not surprising that you are overwhelmed Brit, glad you have a friend to go walking with. Just back from mine and it is a lifesaver. Sorry about the FIL Mary, who does he think will look after him? Old people can become very selfish.

Thanks Starty, had a look at the book last night and I am going to get it. Just had a courier here picking up a suitcase (Daughter in Norway moving into new apartment on the 1st and sending her some stuff). Himself had to be locked up, he was creating such a racket. Beautiful morning here so will give his arch another coat of paint. Bit of variety I suppose.

We could get a DNA done on him but at near £100 a go just to see what his background is but I've got a wool addicition to keep up.
At the moment he's in his favourite place under Mr JC's chair.
Mr JC had his first jab last night........and so far no side effects.........he snored like a warthog all night but that's just the norm.......the bruises on his back are me elbowing him to shut the eff up....... apart from the wee sore bit where they stuck the needle in he's fine.

sounds like Mikey is a man's dog JC? Yes 2 pups is hard work. At the time I also had my mums dog Fudge who, being an older lady helped massively in bringing up the boys. She would discipline them if they got out of line like only a mum can. When she died Fen, especially was distraught. He really missed her badly.

I use that Primula squeazy cheese as a high value treat. Easy to dispense and keep in pocket. Marvelous stuff

Taking Mr S for his jab today. Hoping he doesnt have any side effects as he has to work tonight and tomorow

Good morning-- Had a better sleep and sore throat and headache clearing up.
Trying to bury my feelings as they overwhelm me and I am scared of them.
A good friend is arriving soon to go for a walk with me.

Evening all -- another day done and dusted-- I think it was this day last year I was sent home from work for our first lockdown --- we were one of the last workplaces to finish up for some reason so yeah - the whole country was pretty much on hold -- and here we still are!! ach - another few months and a couple of jabs we'll ALL be grand hopefully!!!

JUst in after 2 full days in the workhouse. God it's tiring being nice & calm and pleasant - especially if someone is calling you a liar, a whore , bitch to name a few.
Lovely gentle old ladies until you tell them something they don't want to hear.

I want to tell them sometimes SHUT THE EFF UP ! Do you know how bloody lucky you are to live in a country that provides such excellent care to older people?
No you are not at 'home' but home was being alone & looking at the 4 walls all day with no visitors. Extreme loneliness until you had a fall and needed 24/7 care.

Now you have a beautiful room to yourself, a main room for games, music & bingo. A family of swans on the River Liffey flowing past your window. Friends & family who visits as much as possible.
Older people do get selfish.

I KNOW I'm headed for hell for that outburst. I can't help thinking [MENTION=7008]JackieClaire[/MENTION] if they live in Mikey's homeland what would it be like ????

Yes, I have not been to work for a whole year now and quite happy with that. They are talking about something called agile working. Envisaging touching toes and yoga poses at desk but I think it just means locations :haha:

Had some sad news today. Mr S auntie who has been in hospital with pneumonia has now been diagnosed with cancer. We get to know prognosis etc on Friday. I have a feeling that its not going to be hopeful at all. Dunno why, just a gut feeling. Yet another reminder to be grateful for what we have and live in the moment as we never know what is round the corner

Oh Benjy -- I couldn't work with old people - I really couldn't -- fair dues to you -- my mum was the sweetest loveliest being on the planet -- she was gentle and kind all her life -- but in old age -- she never turned on me for some reason - or my children - but crikey my sisters and their children had it rough sometimes... dunno what it is really but no - I wouldn't have it in me to do it

How very very true -- sorry to hear bout that -- hopefully it's not too bad - is she well old? I really have gratitude for every waking moment now cos I know how close we were to hell really... I hope I stay feeling like this and don't go back to taking things like health and calmness for granted..

My latest trial is trying to keep Joe away from the 'goodies' -- he has a shocking sweet tooth bless him -- he lost all excess weight (he had a lot -- big belly for one who doesn't drink!) and I need him to stay that way -- I have a small packet of Rich Tea biscuits that I keep as a treat occasionally for Max - he has raided THAT -- I have nothing else in the house but if I make a loaf of brown bread - he'll have eaten half the loaf with butter and jam before I know he's at it...

Just re-read that Starty -- have you literally not been in work for the whole year??? jaysus -- I was in work from May till December last year -- so yeah -- March-May 2020 and December till now -- my employers are losing the plot having to pay us for nothing I think!!!

She is 77 so not really old. The doc asked if she wanted to be resuscitated should anything happen and she said no. Quite telling I think

Mr S was seriously obese last March with drinking and eating shite. He is now just classed as overweight but at 6ft 6 he doesnt show it and looks great! He does love is pizza though. It is hard to keep them away from bad stuff but weight seems to be more of a death sentence than anything just now. I got Mr S to write a will last year at the start of all this. I was SURE he3 was going to die with is lifestyle.

With my job It seems to make no difference if I am at home or office but dont think they want permanent home workers for some reason. I think I will end up going in for probably 1 day a week maybe. I certainly dont want to go in any more than that. Problem they have now is the co has grown and they employed more people in lockdown. i honestly dont think there is room for all of us so I expect they will not want us all in every day. Happy to shimmy to the living room

Youre probably lucky they don't have room for you all...I'm convinced a lot of employers don't want to relinquish the 'power' they have in a workplace...convinced employees cannot be trusted left to their own devices..young ones want to be seen tho so I guess they'll be all flocking back into their offices showing how wonderful they are and licking arse in person..I reckon that'll leave less enthusiastic older folks happily WFH!!!

I think your right there about getting us all back into the office Molly. Im a year working from home too, but I doubt they will make much effort to let us continue. Mr M's place cant wait to get them back. They make whiskey, but because they made a bit of hand sanitizer at the start of this, they are deemed 'essential'. He's in Cork once a week, in the office most of next week..

That IS my FIL. He will put my MIL in an early grave with his demands. Shes only down the stairs and the walker bangs again to summons her, move the curtain or pass him a book. He has this fantastic opportunity now to improve his mobility with every resource available in a state of the art facility and hes giving out yards, threatening to sign himself out. Totally selfish. He's agreed to stay there for a few more days...

That's funny Starty, I celebrated (and I mean that) one year working from home on 23/3/21. When I was packing up my office last year I took almost every single thing home. Reflecting back, I think I knew I'd never return. Sorry to hear about hubby's aunt. It's confronting, isn't it?

I certain you are right Molly. It's control that they want. Everyone sitting up like little soldiers. I notice a lot of the younger ones wanted to go back to work so that they can perch on the side of other's desks and yack their heads of. Is that really more productive, or should we be looking at measurable performance goals maybe, no matter where you are physically? Just an idea.

In my experience in aged care, Satz, selfish people turn into selfish partners, selfish parents and selfish old people. At least they are consistent.

We have measurable performance goals and anyone who doesnt achieve them gets in trouble. Thats why my 65 year old friend had to retire early. She worked really hard but simply wasnt quick enough to do what the youngsters did. Luckily in my job its separate from everyone else and I dont have the targets they do. If I did, I would be offski immediately as they are not achievable for me. And everyone does struggle with them.

I think if we listen to our gut feelings Bridge, we would know more than we think.

Your FIL sounds a nightmare Mary! I seriously dont think I would put up with that. Your poor MIL. Mind you, I used to bang on the floor with my crutch when I had my hip done :haha:

Haha...well at least that was temporary (the hip)..I think as well it's lack of filter with old people...the true thoughts and behaviour comes out...my mum had a big problem for years with some of her older grandchildren ...they were greedy and grabbing..even with her..but she couldn't stand my sister's being taken advantage of..so when she got old she let rip!
Not sure how that would apply to your FIL tho Mary!

Morning all.. lots of ideas to try with the dog today thanks to some great advice..thank you...you know who you are! Finding it hard going at times ..there's only so much Joe can do...so yeah...New day..New ideas!!
