Re: Army Garrison April 2021

Hi folks. I could use some prayers. My mother, Alice had a stroke last night. She is in a skilled nursing facility. They wanted to take her to the hospital but we’ve decided to opt for comfort care. Keeping her in her bed and administering pain meds as needed. She’ll be 94 in September. She is legally blind and has severe hearing loss. I am now in discussion with the administration staff to see her. They say I cannot due to COVID restrictions. The current directive is no one other than medical staff are allowed in the facility. I clearly see a distinction between doing things right and doing the right thing. Thanks for reading this. I haven’t slept and I will continue to fight for her and to visit her. Blessings x

Sorry to hear about your mum techie...I sympathise ..Joe was in hospital for nearly 2 months and I couldn't visit..was convinced he would die and i'd never see him again..I couldn't even bring him home because he was in ICU...would you be able to bring her home and hire a nurse to administer medication? Not ideal but probably the only alternative? so difficult during this pandemic...sending love to you and her xxx

Oh Techie, so sorry to read this. Surely they should be able to let you in on compassionate grounds. US seems to be further ahead with vaccinations. They have started to let family into loved ones here now as most nursing home residents are vaccinated. We did read of some harrowing cases of families outside just looking in the window earlier in the pandemic. Will keep you in my thoughts and prayers. Take care.

techie...........our dear, dear Techie, my heart goes out to you. One of my favourite names Alice. Just a thought but why not drop her address into our PMs and we'll inundate her with cards.
There has to be a way to see her even if its just a wave through the window. Have you a handkerchief which you can dab with your favorite aftershave on that she would recognise to her as you. She can hold onto that.
The elders in care homes over here are now all vaccinated. In fact most over 70s are done and dusted.
My In-laws are in their 90s and have a cleaning lady. Once she's gone my Ma-in-law re-does everything she's done.

Would you believe it but that Peer support group started donkey's years ago in Ireland and is slowly making its way around the world.
It could be worse, I could be filing.

Im so sorry to hear that techie, we are all thinking of you here. We will do a window visit to the hospital my FIL is at this weekend.. its not much, a real life wave, but it will make his day. Alice is a beautiful name.

Re: Army Garrison April 2021

Thank you for your support, concern, and prayers. Mom is stable. Paralyzed on her right side, but stable. They have granted me permission to see her tomorrow. I’ll have 20 minute, and I have to enter through the back employee entrance. I spoke with the CEO of the non profit that runs these facilities earlier. He recognized me by name as my wife and I gave them a huge donation at one of their fund raisers last year. So, it seems that gave me enough cachet to break the rules. We are so angry at California for its slow speed at allowing vaccinated individuals to visit loved ones in hospitals and nursing facilities. I am now giving a lot of thought about moving out of California. While it is a beautiful state, it is a failed one politically, economically, and environmentally.

Sorry for the rant. I am extremely grateful for this site and all of you. A friend was worried that I may drink or take pills. I told her that version of me no longer exists. Thanks again Army friends.

Techie my thoughts are with you and your mum. How awful for all of you. I feel so strongly that governments and organisations have not resolved the horror of not allowing elderly to have their loved ones around them. It boils my blood. As mentioned my husbands aunt spent the last 6 weeks of her life with 2 visits and one of those, she was unconscious. Its not on, it inhumane. I am glad you get 20 mins but the fact it is due to a donation only is so wrong. My best wishes to you and your family

Also the few days in work I couldn't be without - different conversations, talk to young people, non-Irish nationals all with their customs & little quirks and us with ours .... we laugh at each other.
I can feel MrS starting to become 'old' - using the 5k restriction as an excuse. Does that make sense? His world has become soooo small. I know we can't break the shaggin' 5k but I would take a chance mid-week just to see the sea or the mountains.
Re becoming old Satz, what does that mean? I ask because I feel as is we (Me and Mr) are loving our life now even if we dont do much. Our worlds have got smaller but much more simplified and I like that. I am not even going to bother to get my hair recoloured and am going to embrace my grey :haha: If I was restricted to 5k I would be pissed off though

That is amazing Molls. Mr S keeps going on about getting another bike. I have veto'd it though. I would worry far too much about accidents on the roads these days. We used to travel everywhere on his bike and it was such fun though. I remember going 145mph on the back of next doors bike for ages down a main road with no traffic. Totally illegal but sooooo exciting

Mr. JC in his proper office rather than upstairs. There are some clients he has to see face to face or at the moment from behind a screen.
Mikey is casting his winter coat and it looks like little dots of cotton wool all over the floor.

Good afternoon, sad news regarding your Mother Techie but glad you can get to see her.
Great news re Joe clear of that infection Molly but still difficult time I guess.
I feel lonely here in this house but luckily I can encourage myself to get out and walk or slow run every day.
2nd Vaccine due next week so maybe I can plan to see my lovely daughter in Norway if they let me in.

I feel exactly the same -- our world 'constricted' some years back when we quit drinking - no more pubs or boozy bbq's or interest in parties -- we used to be the party house --- and happily constricted - and easier than I thought it would be -- then when Joe retired it constricted for a different reason - we had so much less money -- but again -- it didn't hurt in the slightest --- and now -- well yeah - it's like we take joy in the simple things that meant next to nothing when the grog was what made us 'happy' --- didn't need birdsong or sunshine or a good book even -- I had a bottle of wine... but I genuinely appreciate it all now -- it's super --- I still fight with Joe tho when he does the old man things... not in an unkind way tho -- I just try and keep him on his toes!!!!

Of course you are lonely but so good that you get out and about a bit... have you any pals in the area you could walk with or would you be bothered? It will be wonderful if you can get to Norway -- can't imagine what the problem would be with the 2nd jab done -- it's still early days MrsA -- don't expect too much of yourself.#

More SUPER DUPER news today -- Joe is having his heart operation next Friday -- was terrified that they'd tell us 6 months time or something -- nope -- he goes in crack of dawn next Friday --- will be done later in the day and then depending on recovery a few days and then home to convalesce --- it's like a LOAD off our shoulders --

I get you about the bike Starty -- and if you've survived without I wouldn't encourage it back in -- but to Joe it's super important -- I remember my dad had a heart attack about 3 years before he died and frankly those years were miserable for him - he had to quit smokes,, drink,, food with a higher calorie content than lettuce -- and he was not happy -- so not doing that to Joe -- have to watch the food -- but other than that -- literally --- 'on your bike lad'!!!!

Good you're getting to see your Mum Techie -- I fully understand not allowing visitors in but it's very hard when you are the relative -- believe you me -- I know!!

Afternoon all. Great news again Molly, you are on the home stretch. Delighted you are getting to see your mother Techie. Good to hear that you are getting out for a bit of a run and some walks Brit. Fingers crossed that you will get to see your daughter. They closed their borders end of January and Oslo is in lockdown at the moment. I will also try and visit as soon as possible but think I might be waiting a while.

Hailstones here a while ago. Building up to going out to the garden but crocheting is winning.

I'm with Starty on this one. It's inhumane. There is NO excuse to let someone be very ill or die alone. None.
Whatever it took techie I am glad you are getting in to see your Mam - but it is only right. PPE can be provided - the same PPE the nurses wear if necessary.
Each case should be looked at separately and a risk assessment done. FFS someone at End of Life should have family around them.....
They need to stop making sweeping rules for everyone.

I'll tell you something no-one will stop me going in to see my mother when her time comes. Looking in a window as a loved one dies ? - I can't even imagine it.
I'll be hiring a bulldozer .......

Becoming old - I meant getting into a boring old rut. There's a couple nearby on this road about 10 years older than us and they do the same thing at the same time every feckin' day..... like every day ..... nothing changes ever. Never do anything different.
I know we all agree that for us the simple life is better but I'd hate my life to be that predictable.

Like my life is soooooo lived on the edge : Tesco today - Aldi tomorrow :haha:
