Re: Army June 2021

Hi Starty...great to see you!! And super re. 2nd jab...world is moving along!!!
Agree with you Mary bout the heat...it's uncomfortable and tiring...would hate to try and function in a hot climate..it's grand for a coupla weeks hols but that's it for me!
Still trying to make decisions here about our post-retirement life...so much to think about..the kids think we're skint I think..but money isn't the problem it's the shagging decisions...trying to balance between being responsible and being totally reckless...Christ...I feel a bit too grown up:congratulatory:
Off to work....talk laters xxx

Edit...sorry just saw you asking bout Joe Starty...he's ok as regards the big things but he's in a lot of pain round his shoulder..they've ruled out anything big so doing a scan next week ..they seem to think it might be trapped nerves...fully fixable so that'd be great!

Good morning everyone. Good to see you Starty. Where’s JC, have not heard from her in a few days.

Fingers crossed that it is trapped nerves Molly. Think a lot of us are going to be facing those type of decisions in the near future. Hubby has decided he is going to get a place down west on the water for his fishing. We looked at something last weekend. Site was fabulous but it did not have planning and they were looking for crazy money. Love it here and don’t know if I would want to sell up and move completely. Lot to think about.

Oh god yes -- it is a pivotal point in life I think -- young enough to have loads of healthy good years ahead but old enough not to spend years just thinking about it... I'd love something to just 'happen' to make the decision for me... land down west is very hard to get planning permission on unless you're a local -- the temptation is to take the leap tho isn't it!?
The more I think of the reality of it I wonder how easily I'd leave Dublin and all the family behind tbh..... oy veylease:

all okay Jackie? Not like you to miss a day?

Thank you Tabbers for William Porter! He is a fantastic gold mine for me.. so many talks to listen to and I've just realised he does a live youtube video every friday so I'll subscribe.
Thank you NoSugar for that book Death Wish.. I found it on audiobook and will check it out. Needing all the tools I can get right now.

IamMary and Satz123 I didn't know that about Sinead O'Connor and her mother. That is very sad but interesting to me as I'm dealing with something similar.
A lot of the work I've been doing relates to trauma from domestic violence and childhood abuse. I've been reading ground-breaking books about how childhood traumas can change the brain. It makes so much sense to me now that the hidden catastrophe of domestic violence is the mental health of the children who are basically 'invisible' victims.

It also made me go back and read articles about the Family Court System that we lived through. Its been hard to re-examine those things but very important to connect all the dots so I can help my young people now who are all living with the consequences. I know people outside Australia find it hard to believe so here is an article from 2015 that sums it up Suffer the Children:
Suffer the children: Trouble in the Family Court | The Monthly

Happy hangover free Sunday morning folks. 6.30 am, the sun is shining inside and out and it’s going to be a lovely day. DW commented yesterday to me on how much happier I am since I quit this time around, a different person in fact and it is so true. I suppose feeling free from the chains of almost constantly thinking about al, being either semi drunk or semi hungover does that to a person. The world is a brighter place to me now the fog has lifted and stayed that way, feeling feelings, facing the bad ones as well as the good without the crutch of what I thought was supporting me when in reality it was just a way to run away is liberating. Put quite simply nothing is ever going to take this real version of life away from me again. Enjoy your Sunday today, sober it is a gift, drinking you are throwing it away and what a sad thing that is.

Rustop, that sounds just fabulous! Im with Molls on the people 'at' me :haha:, but I love the rest!

This weekend is apparently going to be roasting. Im not moaning yet.. but seriously Bridge, how do you stick it!!
I was in Darwin for a couple of weeks once and I dont think Ive ever recovered.

Wheres @JackieClaire?
Yes where is JC?

Mary I have never gotten used to the heat and humidity. It's not like Darwin here of course, but it still knocks me so I get where your're coming from. We get up to 40 degrees here but it's the humidity that does me.

Lost my favourite uncle during the week. Very sad time. Getting ready to pack up and head North for the funeral next week, leaving Wednesday. Very sudden and no languishing in a horrid nursing home so there's a blessing. It will be good to see folks.

Glad you are building up the arsenal there fickle. Throw everything you can get at it girl!
If your 8 year old self met you, would they be proud?

Morning everyone. So so sorry to hear about your uncle Bridget but a wonderful way to go for the person.

I would hate intense heat and humidity but have to say the higher temperatures are nice for sitting outside. Had my breakfast outside this morning and just intend to potter around the garden today. Hope everyone has a nice Sunday. Sounding great there Tabs.

Afternoon...yup can't agree more about the heat...ideally I would like a constant 20-25 degrees in summer..no hotter and I do love the seasons so i'd leave the rest alone. Just back from big long walk with Adam and his partner...I'm still a bit cross with him ..he was not very supportive when Joe was sick but I think he's oblivious....just as well...had a lovely time and mega Ice creams after!

Hope everyone okay..a few missing ?

Crikey I'm a disgrace -- so sorry Bridge -- started typing my last post to offer my condolences on your uncle and then forgot -- jaysus old age is miserable!!! and you're away gallivanting Starty? how lovely -- only back from my wee trip and gagging for another one - will not be holding my breath -- I usually take a few weeks unpaid leave to pad out my holidays but didn't this year and now regretting it!

Hey Techie and Fickle and all the other Army folks --

Cos it's a lovely day I amn't doing a big hot dinner -- so it's salmon steaks in lemon butter with asparagus and Irish new potatoes (incomparable in the WORLD ;-) )-- can't think of anything else going on in my world:welldone:

Just back from Kerry. Don't talk to me.
Long story short ......
We were heading home yesterday from Kenmare so DD could get COVID vaccine @ 5pm.
MrS driving over a very hairy mountain - The Black Valley.
Pulled in to let pedestrians pass, hit a hidden rock & got a f*cking puncture on Moll's Gap - yes .... Moll's Gap .... :haha:
No spare in new cars these days & DD's car is last year's.

Arrived into Killarney in a tow truck - with Gerard .
Got the new tyre from Denis & DD got her COVID vaccine with Tom in Killarney Vaccine Centre instead of Dublin :haha:
I will NEVER diss Kerry folk again. THE nicest people you could meet.

Booked into Hotel in Killarney ........... then headed out for something to eat.
I'm afraid to say the once lovely town of Killarney is now a no-go zone. Thousands out in the streets drinking. All young 'wans' & drunk. No-where to eat. A proper hellhole this weekend.

Hghlight : Rosie & an excited homecoming ....

I DO believe you Molls. Was it just before a bridge ?
While we were waiting for a tow truck - another car hit the same spot & the side yoke on the car fell off. The lady passenger just got out picked it up & put it in the boot - was hilarious to watch. Her driver partner never even got out :haha:

Gerard the 'tow guy' told us the day before he had 11 call outs !!!!
I think it has to be a conspiracy with them - I mean why no warning signs ? paint the rocks white ? or SOMETHING
