Just heard we are 'hosting' some event here in the libraries...getting sick of being told to take personal responsibility when large groups are being foisted on us..my personal responsibility may be to feck off home.....a

Re: November Army Thread

Hello, Mary, Rusty,Molly ,Satz and anyone else who is around.

Just checking in! Making lots of plans to see people and be more sociable as that was what was so lovely in Norway.

I fell on my last big hike in Norway and have broken a rib, I am determined this is not going to be a setback and am endeavouring to be positive.

I now have a gardener and a cleaner is coming on Monday.

Trying to be kind to myself. (and succeeding)

Evening all.
Was also in work today & truly FECKED.
Got my flu vaccine today - first time ever - that's probably not helping.
Like a flecking pin cushion ....

Oh MsA that sounds painful.
Looks like the trip to Norway was wonderful and learning again to be sociable ( without the pressure to drink) can only be good.
Broken rib aside - I'm thrilled for you.

ps I'd kill for a cleaner .......

This got me thinking.
It's only when I mix with other cultures on holiday or in work that I see the stark difference in our relationship with alcohol.

'Round me anyway the social life revolves around the pub. They may do something like a hike but it's back to the pub.
Let's meet for dinner ?
It's meet in the pub before & the pub afterwards.
The sun shines - pub garden.
Snow - walk to the pub....
New baby - pub
Wedding - pub before Mass - pub after Mass
Football match - meet in the pub before & after ( "not too many before match now - you'll have to pee and miss a goal maybe") :egad:

Jesus it's a miracle I was able to get sober and that I dread invites to anything with this gang.

It's funny -- but that's exactly what our friend and family dynamic was --- and maybe it's because Joe quit drinking as well -- but there's none of that anymore -- the family are as happy (genuinely it seems!) to pop in and out to the house -- if there's a bit of grub going well and good -- if not -- a cuppa will do - rarely if ever is a pub involved unless we are eating there.... suits me!
We are heading to Smyths Toys now -- get some ideas for christmas and Till's birthday at the end of the month - was at Conor's football match this morn--- bless them -- I'd forgotten how sweet little guys are playing football!

Good afternoon gang, Rib is bloody painful but only when I move, cough, laugh or open the curtains. Ha ha

I think because booze is so expensive in Norway , mostly it was sparkling or still water with all the meals. Socialising over there was easier without the pressure to drink.
However, sometimes they do drink but only to get wasted and not to be sociable.

Never cracked ribs so guess it's not pleasant!
The relationship different nations have with alcohol is fascinating really..my son worked in Finland for a while and he seemed to think they drank like fishes despite the grog costing a fortune..in Ireland the caricature of 'drunken Paddies' may have been somewhat true in the past..but the prevalence of drugs on the street seems to have broken that bond in favour of cocaine and other 'social' drugs...frying pan and fires come to mind....thankfully I'm not in need of either. Still occasionally would love to raise the low level anxiety I seem to permanently have...but Hey ho....can't have everything

Evening everyone.

Very true Molly and living an alcohol free life more than makes up for it. Had a lovely day in Carlingford, had never been there and thoroughly enjoyed the greenway and the coffee beforehand and our lunch. For such a small place it has a lot to offer. Does you good to go somewhere different.

Guess I am lucky we are not a large family so no gatherings as such. Apart from bar food rarely if ever have to socialise in a bar. Hope you all have a wonderful weekend.

Arra sure why not Molls ? That low level anxiety I can relate to.
I spoke to my doctor & she said with age and all the menopause shite without the help of HRT - Serotonin can be depleted in women.
Apparently as the female of the species we were meant to die once our child bearing years are over. So our bodies dunno what to be doing :egad:
So she put me on meds a few years ago and they really made a difference. Sleep like a log EVERY night.
The science bit :
Excess Serotonin can get reabsorbed by the nerve cells. SSRIs work
by blocking reuptake, meaning more serotonin is available

I'll take that!
So that, along with leaving a stressful job, letting YS find his own way, realising I can make a difference to someone by working in the Nursing Home have all helped.
Has made me fierce lazy though. I'm so laid back now - I'll topple over. Kinda just happy to drift along.
Don't feel the need anymore to chase the duster around the house - it's grand :haha:

Well I was hanging off all that science!

Sorry to hear about your rib brit - ouch.

All a bit manic here, think Ive bit off more than I can chew, but too late now - I must have thought they would just magic all the changes with a wand. The dust is desperate and we're on the 2nd skip! There's hardly a wall left now on the back of the house and the windows and doors wont be coming for another 4 weeks. I did get a new oil cloth for my 'working area' in the hall, so feel very posh now. Its the little things.

I dream of a cleaner.
