Re: November Army Thread

Success is fantastic, keep watching it satz123. Haven't watched the new season yet. I forget the man at the window bit too?

You are all absolutely right and I have made up excuses on this lot before, but they keep asking and coming back for more. Where are all the Me's and the Youse? Is everyone else in the world 'so excited' and 'omg I cant wait' - I dont even reply on the whatapp messages. I missed 38 messages earlier.

I feel obliged this time, so I will go and moan about it, but 100% leaving after dinner. Ive a list of genuine excuses as long as my arm, including Mr Ms birthday on Saturday and a communion (dont get me started on that).

Have you both got your keys yet? Rustop + Molly? Or are you still waiting on the Irelands only QS?

Re: November Army Thread

Good morning strangers, took a a little break from annoying yiz. Anyway I’m still alive and kicking and happily sober. 5am, still dark out but being hanger and regret free makes it so much easier to face the day and whatever it may throw at us. Regarding getting older, I agree, one of the few bonuses is caring less what people think about us, for we have no control over what options of us they form except in the way we behave. I think personally that is a big bonus for anyone who has had a drinking problem. A lot of us struggled with social interactions and what people thought about us and our actions, which of course came back to bite us when the morning after arrived, when the regrets along with the sickening loss of hours of the night before came home to roost.
In addition letting things slide and not getting ourselves worked up about things that really are insignificant when compared to real issues is a direction I am seriously trying to head in as I get older. At least that’s what I aspire to. As I told someone the other day who was getting really wound up with a close family member after conflict over something trivial, what would you do if you got news this person had just been involved in a serious road accident for instance. Perspective folks.
Have a good Friday whatever it throws at us for it won’t come around again.
Ethanol is a toxic chemical, why would I drink it?

Morning....ah yes...do remember it now!!!

I was about 50 when I started trying to quit booze..and I was in that half way house for a good few years...it was not a good time..confusing for me AND my nearest and dearest..looking back I was fully sober about 90% of that time..but it was hard. I hadn't in anyway transitioned to a sober life. Same people in my life as you describe yours Mary...same nonsense expected of me...sober pub..sober holidays etc etc ...while the expectation was that I'd happily sit there with my glass of orange while they all drank around me.
The change came when I was deeply counselled in Aiseirí by recovering addicts who had truly turned their life around HAPPILY decades earlier...and I wanted that...so when I came home ..I didn't just not drink.. I changed everything I had control of...and thanks to Joe he changed a lot I didn't have control of.
THAT'S what made the difference. My workmates have always known I don't drink..except for a couple of close friends no one knows why specifically...nor do they care..cos most people don't give a fiddlers about anyone except themselves..I don't do Christmas 'do's' unless I want to...and sometimes I do cos there's no pressure..this year I will go.

That's all just me. But if I had ongoing resentment towards aspects of my life would I stay sober? Maybe...but maybe not...the f%$k it moment may never be far away..not AT the unwanted pub visit...boozy holiday...family event...but just maybe grow in my head...and for me...that would be dangerous.

Good to see you Tabs...we need all the Army we have...Jackie is having a well earned break..if you're reading Jacks..hope all is good xx

I agree with you so much about perspective Tabs..one of my sprogs is causing me a bit of grief at the moment...but...I'd walk over hot coals for him if it helped!!
Day off today as you may have guessed from long post....AND ...on my phone ;-)

Good morning

I watched Succession last summer too and enjoyed it but forget the man at the window bit. My daughter is watching Dynasty, the new version on Netflix. I watched the original with Joan Collins back in the 70’s or 80’s. Remember the big shoulder pads :eek-new:

Another drizzley day here but just had a lovely walk so feel the better of it. Enjoy your day off Molly. We never stop worrying about our kids no matter what age they are.

Re: November Army Thread

Evening. Late check in today.
RANT ALERT

Drove all the way to shaggin' CityWest out in the sticks in the middle of nowhere for my booster COVID-19 jab - & was turned away - saying they were not doing booster jabs today.
FFS ! I was going to hit him.

Worst part - it was pissing rain & a gale force wind. I had a car but I watched as poor young ones - (healthcare workers that we applauded last year for being SOOOO marvellous) walked in the rain on their day off - having got 2 busses no doubt.

I was FUMING - still am - at how these people who held it together during the worst of the pandemic are treated.

Minimum wage €10.40 PH
No sick pay
No pension provision
Then on their day off - have to go in unpaid for maybe 2/3 hours for courses in manual Handling, Safety etc
Although there is a chef & full kitchen in the nursing home - they are not allowed to eat the food. Must bring their own.
Any individually is taken away. Drab scrubs & told to wear only black shoes & trousers.
Young girls & guys working 4 x 12 hour shifts.....at work most of the rest of us just could not do.

It's ALL WRONG.

The End .........

Morning all
Apologies for the 'Debbie Downer' post last night. You lot a such a captive audience :haha:
The unfairness of it got to me.. ...... but I'm over it now. It's out there now via Joe Duffy Show - in the public domain - so something may happen soon.

YS is not allowed a phone in the treatment centre - but last I spoke to him it was tough going but was enjoying it.
We as family go down on 21st ......

Good morning everyone.

Rant away Satz and I agree it is very unfair. It is the most glorious morning here. Got up really early and went off with the doggies before the crowds descended. Car park was full by the time we got back. Himself gone fishing with his club, some sort of competition. Tempted to just put the feet up and crochet but it is so nice I think I will go outside and rake up a few leaves.

Anyone got anything nice planned?

Super posts yesterday, molly and tabbers.
I survived the night out! Actually it was lovely. Only 2 had wine and at that, it was 2 glases each, so no focus on booze.
Popped down to the communion earlier, no shortage of wine being poured there.. made my excuses as MrM has a headcold (couldn't go) and its his birthday. We had the house to ourselves and watched Deep Water. V v good.

Thats absolutely terrible satz123.. was it advertised that they were doing the boosters?

Crone woods. Only 5 minutes away but since lockdown has become a Mecca. Have not gone near it at weekends in months. Roz Purcell brings groups there and has a photographed guide on Instagram so it has become very popular :egad:
