What you're thinking about is SMART..................I've been to a few and its growing but like everything it costs money to hire a room, but its growing slowly.

satz123................sounds like your lad has got it. Take what you need and bin the rest.

No................ I'm not going to fix the S&H's shed.................he's a big boy now and allowed a real hammer. He doesn't need his Bob the Builder book anymore.

Sorry I'm having one of my low days.
awww - that's alright Jacks -- we're all allowed bad days -- good to talk tho! and I'll let you off not fixing his shed --- (you do know I was joking yeah??):victorious:

Here JC have a :hug:, Quick check in. Great conversations going and lots to think about. I hope you are not right Molly and that it will go in the same way as smoking but the other side of that is they will replace it with something else e.g drugs. In fact I would say that is what is happening with some of the young people at the moment. However just back from SuperValu and for the first time ever saw a stand dedicated to alcohol free drinks outside the off licence section.

Had a lovely night away and the best meal we’ve had in a long time. Off now to take the dogs out and enjoy the bit of sun that is peeping out.
Kind of agree with the drugs -- they are definitely moving into more mainstream territory I think -- like I'm not naive and I know they've been around since Adam and the apple -- but.... yeah -- it's not sort of 'hidden' at all anymore -- not sure which is the worser!!!

Meant to say the other day -- have been to that hotel twice.. both with my 'birth' family - one of the occasions was one of the funniest best nights of my life -- mum and us three girls and we had a ball -- we laughed so much that the 3 of them (all with weak bladders) almost peed themselves at one stage!! the 2nd time -- omg how different --- it was my middle sisters son's wedding -- and it was the first time I realised 'something' was off -- my sister was so very odd to me and Joe -- like we shouldn't have even been there - and (I only found this out later) she had a horrible row with my mum... my mum was beginning to get a bit bewildered around then so couldn't ever remember what the row was about -- the atmosphere was so awful - we packed up the kids and went home about 7am the next morning -- and it was all downhill after that family wise -- still none the wiser!
But yes --- the hotel was gorgeous then and I'm sure it still is!

I would love to think you are right --- and I will happily eat my hat if you are... I'm doubtful tho xx
What I think from talking to a lot of young people in work & my mother's salt-of-the-earth companion - Cocaine is now the drug of choice. It's getting more accessible and cheaper than it used to be.
Down in Áiseiri treatment centre - all the young people teens & 20's are in for Cocaine not alcohol.
Night clubs - they will have a drink or two but then they move on to the Coke.
So my prediction is that alcohol dependence will fade away eventually to make way for other addictions in the future - when all us 'ol alkies are gone
That is possibly what the drinks industry is worried about ? Sales dwindling as the over 40s who LOVE the gargle, start to die off.... ? :egad:

On another note.
I bought a gadget for testing blood sugar ages ago. I don't seem to have a problem YET - but I've been hearing more & more about the connection with dementia & high blood sugars.
Going as far as labelling Dementia as Type 3 diabetes.:egad:
So, given the rate I can put anything sweet away, I'm keeping an eye on it.

Chocolates I'd been squirreling away got hit badly yesterday - so I've taken the lot & dumped in the bin...... can't have them in the house.

Don't really get the sugar thing --- don't get me wrong -- give me a bag of jelly beans and I can knock them back like I drank wine.... but if you gave me a packet of crisps it'd do the same job - or popcorn -- sometimes I just want a 'treat' -- interesting tho the link with dementia -- will store that 'tool' away for himself next time he's buried in a tin of Roses ---

Think you may well have a point re. the drugs V alcohol --- booze isn't cool anymore -- but the addiction that goes with it is the same - it's just moved onto a new product... mmm -- interesting

Ha! Ha! I say in my best Dublin accent to MrS

"don't think I'm going to be wheeling you around in your chair when you get sick & demented "
" go to a doctor for a check-up"

He's the healthiest person I know. Married 43 years & only once in that time in 1976 do I remember him being sick with even a cold.

Thats mad satz123... cracking immunity. Surrounded by sore throats and headcolds here. Doing PCRs and antigens periodically as every second person has covid these days... nothing so far.
I definitely think there is a shift from alcohol with the younger folk too (ignore the fact that I picked up my drunk 15 year old last week).. they are much more aware of their mental health too.
I'd love to think that alcohol will go the same direction as cigarettes but the drinks companies have way too much power and money. Mr M works for one and you would not believe the waste. Because they can.

Morning all - off to get me hair cut. I'm like a shaggy dog. :llama:
My hairdresser broke her arm & I've been waiting for her.
Trimmed my fringe and put in my own colour. Very professional even if I say so myself. Mixed up proper hairdresser colour.

Howdy folks...you talk about the waste in the alcohol trade Mary..but at least they are a private company..I am waiting to retire to expose the wilfully appalling waste in the public service..and when you see the shocking state of our health service it is frightening if that waste extends into that

Afternoon everyone

I worked in the public service many moons ago and yes there was appalling waste and it is definitely going on in our health service. A friend of a friend is fairly high up in the HSE and I can remember her going off on jaunts to 5 star hotels so that’s what a lot of the money was wasted on and the poor nurses left picking up the pieces. If they can implement a Lean program in manufacturing, can’t see why it can’t be done in the public service.

Back at work today, hope it is only two days this week. Only another couple of weeks until I have a break. Think I will take 20/21st off as annual leave as I have days left which means I finish up on the 14th. Hope you feeling a bit better today JC? You too Brit? Never knew that about the sugar and dementia, thanks Satz.

You should go back to that hotel Molly, make new memories. I’ve lived in the county nearly 30 years, cannot believe I had never been. Mind you it is out in the boonies.

Much better today.................got out of my funk about 4 ish yesterday.
I would have been here earlier today but got involved with one of my teddies I knit. I couldn't his fecking eyeballs in. Finally got dressed put a smile on and went to watch Mr and Mrs S&H's first live gig with the whole zoomers (is zoomers a word) It started as a zoom thing and grew wings and became a chorus. Last night was their first gig with a live audience. They were incredible.
They sang everything from Bat out of Hell to carols. The work they must have put in was astounding. I'm a very proud Mum as the S&H sang Relight my Fire solo.

If you're getting rid of chocolate just poke it through my letter box.

satz123................I've always dyed my hair myself got a wee kit from Poundland. I'm actually at the hairdressers on Saturday.................I'm getting fed up with my 'blonde' bob. There's a little voice argument in my brain about going short.
It could be worse, I could be filing.

I'm at the hairdresser on Thursday and thinking I'll go back to the blonde fringe Bob (currently no fringe).
Love that Satz, but looks like a lot of maintenance.
Got a date for our windows, Dec 8th. Have to push the kitchen installation out until Dec 14th. Worktop will have to wait until the new year, ah well.

What's going on with the ribs brit??

I didn't realise young JC was a singer doing gigs! Do you sing JackieClaire?
