Re: April Army 2020

We put up a marquee in the garden, everyone related to us pitched in, not that we asked for it, but it was a bit of craic. All very home made.
We had a free bar as himself works in the industry but there wasn't much choice. Red white beer stout.
Ah , each to their own. I could not justify it, but we just bought a money pit. Would have been much for sensible to have a big wedding and a normal house!

Morning from sick bay.
We gave Jenny and Ads a few bob and told them that was it. Did the same with Mr and Mrs S&H. They managed.
Mr JC and I paid for our wedding although we did get a fridge freezer from the in-laws as wedding present and my Aunt made the cake.

I'm still feeling rotten so we decided to give me a covid test. Just how far up yer nose do you have to stick the thing................didn't half make my eyes water. Anyhoo it was negative and I've got what is called a stinking cold.
It could be worse, I could be filing.

So it's generational thing I think.
My parents paid for some of it - but only because - and they told me - we were buying our own house .... that was a big deal to them.

It was very tame affair compared to today's shenanigans.
We had to do that whole 'going away' shit that was the thing then. They all stayed & we left at 8pm & went into Dublin for a few hours & came back when they were all gone.
Such nonsense :haha:
I really don't agree that it is a generational thing...well it is only in so far that they are all like sheep...copying the girl at work or the bloke in the office..castles..100's of guests...probably hardly know half of them..25 bridesmaids and flower girls...Will I go on....pre-honeymoon honeymoons.....look at the last few posts in this thread....all completely different weddings...none of them costing a fortune...certainly not to the cost of not being able to buy a house....my blood boils tbh

My point exactly. We're all ancient :haha:
( apart from Mers - who is a rock of sense but regrets not having a big bash :heart

The Irish obsession with having to buy a house needs to go. Long Term Rental like the rest of Europe is the way to go - IF we had PROPER landlords like the rest of Europe. Not money-grabbing bastards.

I like owning my house..have to say I do like the thought of handing in a bit of bob to the kids...
The point I was trying to make was that anyone born since 1990 doesn't seem to have minds of their own...the 'big day' at the cost of individuality...course they don't have to buy a house but ye gods....with that money they could travel the world ....educate themselves doing something they want to do instead of what they have to do to make money ...get something they are passionate about and have the money to start it up...WHATEVER....just not one stupid day that in truth is done to impress their friends or to get their 'instagram' moment...so no..I still say the only thing generational about it is the lack of imagination.

Long term rental ...maybe...but not for me...indeed THAT may be generational!

Bad news. Mother is on the last lap of IPF - her lungs are failing.
She's not eating and slowly deteriorating. On IV for fluids constantly & breathing is getting bad. She had a few flare-ups in the past few weeks and each one weakens her more.
She would be 92 this year but struggling to get there.:upset:

Morning ladies.
Happy birthday JC. Satz sorry about your mum, it is awful at any age.
Another sober Sunday morning, best time of the week imo and it never gets stale. Important to remind ourselves every so often of the precious gift we have had the courage to give ourselves, it is so worth protecting.
Ethanol is a toxic chemical, why would I drink it?

Happy easter everyone...got the tribe landing for 'traditional' easter leg of lamb (if it happens more than once in our house apparently it's a tradition ;-)
Happy birthday Jackie.. have a good day.

Just a quick one from me...............first thank you for the kind birthday wishes.
To cut a long story short..................Mr JC's in hospital he's dislocated his hip (the other one not the one he had replaced yonks ago). Took nigh on 7 hours for an ambulance to arrive.
I've managed to get in touch with the hoards that were going arrive at 2pm and cancelled the party.
It could be worse, I could be filing.

So sorry to hear that Jacks...I presume they have re-located hip (so to speak) now? He's unfortunate ..he dislocated the replacement one too didn't he!? Give him my love. 7 hours for an ambulance??? That's shocking!

I hope all is fixed now ?
Or another 7 hours in A&E ? Would be if it was over here. Absolute disgrace.

Tell MrJC to stop stealing the limelight from you on your birthday:haha:

Ouch, 7 hours in pain!! Hope he's doing OK now, is he still in hospital?. Happy birthday to you JackieClaire! Lots of drama on your day!

So sorry to hear about your mam satz123. 92 or 52, still hard to watch. How is her form?

Just ate my weight in chocolate.. wagons are circling now getting ready for next week (family reunion for dad's 80th), brothers and family's back and plans about plans being made. 2 of my 3 siblings don't drink so no pressure or awkwardness.

@IamMary
Two / three don't drink Mers . That's unusual for this country :egad:
This is a typical question and I can't believe I'm asking it but ....... : is there a backstory with them (we love an 'ol backstory) or did they never drink ?

With regard to the rest of them - let them off. If they are like my lot their focus will probably be on alcohol. You should keep it simple and have your getaway car outside.
