Re: May Army 2022

That sounds lovely Mary...bit different...tbh loving the closer to nature feeling I get down here..it's not just physically being in the countryside but doing the garden..it's amazing how many creatures there are that I'm not familiar with...and the birds...thought we had an amazing dawn chorus at home in Dublin...this is phenomenal...mind you it does start awful early this time of year!

You are motoring with the cottage Rusters..I've called a wee halt just want to keep an eye on the money we're spending!

IamMary...........sounds like Keilder Water. Kielder Water and Forest Park | Forestry England. Its less than an hour to get to and you get a drive through Northumberland.

I'm a townie they'll have carry me out in a a box to leave this house.

Panic stations last night as we realised we had no-one to look after Mikey on the day of the wedding. Our lovely neighbours are taking him for the day and evening.
It could be worse, I could be filing.

Afternoon everyone

Miserable wet one here. Glad Mikey is sorted for the big day JC.

Agree with you about the nature Molly, felt the birds were nearly in the room with me Saturday morning. My girls always slept better down there too when they were babies.

I have to stop myself buying stuff so recycling loads of things that were in the attic here. I have been very lucky that my SIL has helped so much. Daughter coming home beginning of July so think I will take time then to just enjoy it. Beach walks, seaweed baths, a Voya treatment or two. That’s the plan anyway.

That place looks fab! This is a much smaller place, its not advertised, no website etc just a lot of interesting work going on there by the county council. We have 2 other great parks, a 10 min drive from us in either direction, Newbridge and Ardgillian and malahide castle is just up the road a bit. Park runs in the all!
Molly, if you havnt checked out Rodgerstown estuary yet (aka the dump), its a lovely Saturday walk.
But you country folk have all of this in spades now, no driving required!

Great you got Mikey sorted JC. How long again to the big day? The wedding big day :happy2:

Lashed rain here all day. Then the sun came out around 7 and it was like the south of France.

Have to do a quick online shop… ffs, everything is going up in price!!!

Hi Army
Yes went to Munich. Brilliant city. Took a while to get used to the bike lanes ...... nearly got mowed down a few times.
The area the Germans are in is equivalent of maybe a posh part of a city centre ( can't think of one in Dublin :haha
Anyone with an alcohol problem should NOT go to Munich.
They have these MASSIVE beer gardens - huge. Packed to the gills the whole weekend.

Even at lunchtime in the food market on Monday - young girls meeting have a pint of beer with lunch
Old couples - the elderly ladies drinking beer - at 11.30am - crazy stuff.

Beer is like a lemonade to them & they can leave it at one.
Would DEFFO not work in Ireland.

YS still at it and I now have a decision to make whether to cut him loose.
The fact he lived rough for a week and almost enjoyed it - worries me - that he will end up dead or in hospital.
It's all so hard.

@brit Sorry you're feeling so down MsA.
You are entitled to get lonely & down
I know you're a nurse - but on the physical side only have you checked for UTI ? I learned that us 'oldies' can get depression when they occur ?

Welcome back -- glad you got your break... bet you didn't want to come home to have to make that decision... what does your daughter think you should do -- she's at a distance, maybe she can have a more detached few of the situation?
The more I see and hear of the different ways of drinking with people (and I'm guessing that as many of the old ladies and young girls that drink non problematically there are dozens of them at home with just as bad a problem as you will find in Ireland or England or France or......) I wonder is it really just the reason that people drink that makes the difference -- not the drink itself -- I know I ALWAYS drank for kicks -- didn't give a flying f*&k what it tasted like I just wanted the high -- and then ended up chasing it... others do it to drown their sorrows... others to forget... and until that 'want' is found elsewhere or (as in my case I think) the need of the want fades...sorry just thinking 'out loud'. Just wonder why YS drinks?

I remember being in the States on holidays many moons ago and being astounded at how little the Americans drink when in bars and restaurants -- an American man we met told us that it is frowned on to lose control with alcohol by the society and heaps and heaps of people do their drinking on the sly - at home -- alone... otherwise it'd affect their career and all sorts... whereas here? yeah you're just 'one of the lads'...

Anyways -- enough of all that... I'm on my laptop for the first time in months so can type endlessly:woohoo2:

Night all

Glad you got away Satz. Hard decisions, thinking of you.

Did not finish painting until 9 pm this evening at the cottage. New flooring has made such a difference. First night here on my own. So exhausted I will pass out. Nice it’s from tiredness not alcohol.

Welcome home, Satzuma.

Saw that in Belgium when my Uncle asked for a pint and got a smallish glass. He was horrified. Mind you we made up for it in the hotel we were staying at.
Went and had a google and Germany are 4th for beer consumption and Ireland 5th in the world..............must try better Latvia are number one. Yes I've been googling.

Mind you this is yonks ago and my friend was meeting her fiance's family for the first time in France and she asked for another glass on wine..........his family were horrified. She thought her future mother in law was going to throw her off the balcony.

aah Molls, you couldn't have put it better............we used to chase that feeling of the first couple of drinks. Hacks me off mightily when they go on about illegal drugs when there's a legal mind altering substance readily available in most shops.

Bit of TV then off to bed.
It could be worse, I could be filing.

Morning,
Going out for coffee with a friend. She's actually the sister of my mate that I did a couple of de-toxes with. Sadly he died nigh on 10 years ago but I'm still close to her...............he drank himself to death aged 50 or officially pancreatitis.

Mr JC is finding when he's dealing with death certificates................more and more coroners are mentioning alcohol in their notes at the bottom of the death certificate as one of the reasons for the deceased death.
Far into the future drinking might just become like smoking.
There's a cheery way to start the day.

Better get a wriggle on.

Morning folks!

you know -- the other side of people dying young from the drink is the extraordinary longevity of some folk like my SIL and BIL -- I've known them since their early teens - they are younger than us -- well she is -- he's the same age as me --- and they have truly drunk excessively since then -- like REALLY excessively -- she checked herself into a rehab once and duly checked herself back out again when he arrived in smelling of pints to visit her.

He thinks he's GRAND -- cos he doesn't drink at home -- just has 8-10 pints a night 7 nights a week -- she was drinking a bottle of gin a day I think as long ago as maybe 20 years... and they smoke about 40 cigarettes a day each -- and NOT A BOTHER ON THEM????? like seriouslylease:

And yet -- my newly re-met sister hasn't smoke since she was about 20 she's now 76 and gets lung cancer -- life can really be very cruel and unfair -- you'd wonder is there a grand plan?!

More clearing out of this house now -- Jilly and Joey have another heap to get rid of -- somewhere -- somehow... and then -- a skip and a dump and OFF WE GO!!!!

Evening everyone

Have a serious case of skip envy ladies. Did do a trip to the dump down west so that’s something I suppose.

Happens in all families Molly. I have one cousin who has drank and smoked major all his life and is 70+. His brother who never drank or smoked dropped dead at 54. Does not seem fair.

Just back from the west. Got take away and feet up now.
