Re: July Army 2022
Evening. Had a day off yesterday ans promised the girls we would go onto town. Don't know how they are so different, one loves Penny's and Henry Street, the other has notions and loves grafton Street. Son just shops in the 2nd
Hand shops, if he absolutely has to buy something. Hes away with friends. Not shopping.
satz123, so sorry to hear about YS. You must be sick to your teeth of this. Does he eat, come down the stairs?
Granny JackieClaire, what are you calling yourself? We had a nana and a grandma, weirdly. All my kids grandparents go by their first names, can't remember why!
Flying Monday Stirls, I'll pm you our schedule this week.AF - July 19th 2015 :happy2:

Re: July Army 2022
Morning
Yep.
YS has always shopped second hand - even when he was earning good money. If you keep an eye out for when stock comes in he says, you'll get great clothes for half nothing.
DD - is a different breed altogether. NEVER bought 2nd hand in her life. Everything is designer. Bags, coats, shoes .... worn just a few times then bagged & sent to charity shop.
Though in fairness we're being told we must shop now to save the planet.
Buy to last. The message is every time you buy something, always think, 'Will I wear it a minimum of 30 times?' If the answer is yes, then buy it. If 'no' don't buy.
So I'm trying to do this :egad:
My niece worked in Penneys for the Summer last year. The clothes are made so cheaply, are so disposable , they just scrap all returns to their shops and then that goes to landfill.

Re: July Army 2022
Ah Penny's is terrible quality, my neice works there too. No talking to the kids though. I'm with YS. Would have no problem 2nd hand, in a posh area :haha:
I've clothes for 20+ years, still going strong. Would alter too. I shop mostly in sample sales so v good quality for Penny's prices!
lifechange, why are you up so early? Busy head?AF - July 19th 2015 :happy2:

Re: July Army 2022
hi again Army!!
Satz, sorry to hear about YS.. that must be really frustrating..again. have you had many encounters with him or is he mostly staying up in his room? i'm glad you and the Mr. were able to get in some nice fresh air and time in the country..
Mary, the school year has ended here and my youngest headed off to Greece with some friends (and a mom!) this morning for a week.. i was worried they might not hear the alarm as they were up till midnight with excitement.. quite sure they would have slept till 10!!
Molly, how old is Tilly? i love that nickname for Mathilda!
today is the second day i've been having some thoughts of drinking.. not too difficult to push them away and to act by eating, drinking water, having a looong nap and checking in here.. but it is a bit annoying. haven't had any this past month and knew they would come.. glad that i've been practicing what to do.. remembering what you all said awhile back about feeling blah for quite a long time and that's how i feel now.
plus stressed.. i mentioned in the Nest that my eldest is pregnant.. not planned and though she's been with her guy for 4 years, they'd been having lots of problems. she's been struggling with whether or not she wants to go through with the pregnancy for the past 6 weeks or so and has now decided she wants to.. she seems strong in her decision and they've been working on communication, expectations, etc... so now i'm trying to wrap my head around the fact that i'm gonna be a grandma much earlier than i'd expected!! lots of life changes coming up.. more reasons NOT to drink..

Re: July Army 2022
A lot going on there Elsie! All I would say is..#1..watch your head...nothing...and I mean nothing is more important now than protecting your sobriety...and I'm sure Byrdy and Lav and all the other smasheroonies in the nest have said similar...think it through to the end ..what that first drink ends up as...be it cold and miserable waking on a couch at 3am or making a fool of yourself somewhere...or forgetting really important things your kids have told you or just being a shadow of the woman you are becoming...is any hour of release from worry worth the aftermath?
What age is your daughter? My 'baby' and his very on again off again gf got pregnant when they were 22...and he was a wild headless 22 as well...he's now the most fabulous daddy and in fact they've just had another one....life has a way of working out...oh and don't worry about being a young granny...Great advantage...my mum was only 42 when she became a granny and she loved it! I was more like a pensioner at 54!!!!
Tilly is 4 and a half ( and the half is VERY important to her!!) She starts big school in Sept. and is very excited about it..in fact so does the 'baby' that MY baby had at 22!!! Her name is Éabha...
Booked a holiday for Sept...2 weeks in the Canaries..quite very excited...hotel looks excellent...just fancy a bit of rest and relaxation...a break from...rest and relaxation:welldone:...this dossing life is great!!Last edited by mollyka; July 6, 2022, 03:07 PM.Contentedly sober since 27/12/2011

Re: July Army 2022
morning Army!!
thanks, Satz!! also didn't know that Knock was the name of a town/city in Ireland! thought "fly from Knock" was some sort of a retirement joke!!:topsy_turvy: i'm learning a lot here from you ladies!!
Molly, thanks for your support! she'll be just 21 when the baby comes, probably end of December-ish.. she's getting a lot of slack from people who are telling her she's wasting her youth (including her dad).. she's never really been like the other "youth" and fortunately we live in a place that has a pretty good system set up for helping with kids.. sooo! gosh, your mom was a young granny.. did you have children young as well? my mom was also 21 when i was born but i waited till 31.. not for lack of trying!!:congratulatory:
ok.. off to work on this cold, rainy day.. 19° high and 100% rain.. could be in Dublin!!

Re: July Army 2022
Haha...Knock it appears is like a middleman...unless you want to fly to London or Birmingham or such you pretty much have to do a stopover somewhere and I'm allergic to stopovers so proud culchie and all but will fly from Dublin ;-)
My mum was married at 18...had 2 kids at her 21st...very happy life with my dad...I didn't have my first until I was 25 so no..not that young.
People will give her all sorts of advice but she knows her own heart...and a baby doesn't have to be the end of life as we know it. When I had Joey I'd been tied down for a long time..I was a working mum for the others...but him I enjoyed...I brought him everywhere...don't remember sacrificing anything for him ...we just bundled him up and off we'd go...think he'd seen half the world before he was 10!!
How are you feeling re. drinking thoughts?

Re: July Army 2022
Good morning everyone
Congrats on becoming a Granny LC, as Molly says life has a way of working itself out.
If you could get a direct flight from Knock or Shannon I would highly recommend. We flew to Malta a few weeks ago from Shannon and it was a dream compared to Dublin. Parked outside the door, straight through.
Here at the cottage. Got loads done yesterday. Started painting the main room and it has made such a difference. Walls are rough so tough going but worth it.
Waves to everyone, better get back to it.

Re: July Army 2022
Morning all
YS update - (I know yer all gagging for this):
He's drinking but not much I don't think.
He said he doesn't want to go into treatment
He says he's been offered the job in Limerick University
He says he's taking the job in Limerick
He says he has secured a place to live in Limerick
He is DELUSIONAL.
I don't mean that flippantly - I think he has a disorder ........ reality is not where he lives any more if he thinks that will work out. He is fixated on the shame of living 'at home with parents' at age 40. And is prepared to do anything to get out of the situation.
We are not that bad :egad: but the hum drum of normal life seems alien to him.
I am supporting him now to get the hell out if that is how he feels.
