The risk is when getting dressed up...fine line in the middle between mutton dressed as lamb and old ladyish...that's just my opinion of course!

That mutton dressed as lamb is the worst I think. It kinda looks a bit desperate. Totally get why people do it, but it really does no favours at all. If I had to go either way, I would go twinset and pearls with a nice tweed skirt and brown lace up flat shoes. At least I would be comfy and warm :haha:

When I was bout 18...between the mini and the hippie era I had an amazing old lady tweed skirt..I wore it with my doc martens and only time in my LIFE pals of mine copied 'the look':yay:Last edited by mollyka; August 20, 2022, 12:19 PM.Contentedly sober since 27/12/2011

Re: Army August 2022
I can imagine you in DMs Molls! Bet that looked really cool. I remember when it was in to get all clothes from charity shops and old mens shirts, tweeds and flouncy stuff was in. I was never much good at creating looks, so tended to stick with jeans and tops. Bikery I guess. So much easier being older than trying to fit in with all that shite

Very true Starty. When I finish work three quarters of my wardrobe will be dumped. I can do dressy ok and very casual but really struggle with dressy casual.
Nice relaxing day here at the cottage. Did a little bit of painting but also sat outside and read my book. Had two workmen come look at stuff and both turned up. We need to do something with the drive and also need a garden shed. Hopefully will get it done before winter.

Was only a pretend hippie - afraid to take the drugs :haha:
Couldn't wear a mini 'cos had fat legs in my early teens.
Also glad to leave all that keeping up shite behind too. Just wear what I like these days. As I said I TRY to be classy but doesn't always work out.
Yep Molls in DMs - she deffo has her look sorted. A kind of effortless chic.
Me and DD on holidays in Greece call them 'floaters'.
They seem to float down to the sea - and just get in. No faffing around. Organised.
There is one floater in particular on Assos beach where we holiday.
Tall, elegant she floats down in sarong/swimsuit combo same time every day. Carries a wicker basket.
Puts down the wicker basket, shrugs off the sarong & floats into the see & swims elegantly.
Coming out same - no fuss with drying or hair issues.
We hate her :haha:Last edited by satz123; August 20, 2022, 04:18 PM.

Re: Army August 2022
Morning Army!
it is a lovely, cool Sunday morning and after the past couple of shitty days i feel hopeful again.. it's taking me a decade to figure out my way out, but i'm getting closer, mainly in that i'm losing the shame in being an alcoholic.. there's no getting around it, i've proven to myself a million times that no matter what, if i drink i'll be in exactly the same place i left off.. even worse. i think that having a mother who was such a hard core drunk kept me in "denial" for a long time.. never drank like she did, don't want to be in the same boat as her, etc.. but that is the direction i'm headed if i continue to drink. i know that not drinking alcohol has to be the one non negotiable.. it really worked to come here every day, to set out my plan in the Nest mornings, to come back in the evening to check in and confirm that i'd done it, to talk about problems, to carry around my notebook and jot things down.. at some point i started slacking, my short term memory set in.. i'm not sure what my missing link is.. but i do think it's positive that i'm not staying away.. that's a little shift, not disappearing for months, either say f*** it or thinking i'll manage on my own.. i'll hear tomorrow about whether or not the therapist has time to fit me in.. i do think that could help as well..
thank you all for continuing to support me.. i'm pretty sure it's frustrating to keep trying to help someone who won't be helped.. i'll definitely remember your patience when i get to the point that i can help someone get through their addiction!!

Ah Elsie stop beating yourself up. We KNOW what it's like.
but i do think it's positive that i'm not staying away.. that's a little shift, not disappearing for months, either say f*** it or thinking i'll manage on my own.
I don't know about others but I was still drinking daily when I started posting here. Once I settled into The Army Thread I started to post daily & continued regardless.
No one ever asked about whether I was drinking or not but listening to others on MWO, in particular the Army, I really wanted to have what they had. A contented life without booze.
Over time, as is probably happening to you, I slowly started to think it was possible. And it was.
I remember dipping my foot in on a night out and volunteering to drive. I NEVER went out without drinking EVER. I had just one glass of wine with dinner very early in the night and that was it. I actually enjoyed that night - it was a pub quiz - & couldn't believe it.
I felt such pride being able to drive home for once.
That sowed the seed that maybe this can be done.
Take your time - keep posting.
i'm pretty sure it's frustrating to keep trying to help someone who won't be helped..Last edited by satz123; August 21, 2022, 01:32 AM.

Re: Army August 2022
Good morning everyone
I echo what Satz said and like her I really wanted what the army folk had so stuck around. Posting is crucial and remember we have all been there, just some of us are further on the journey than others.
Beautiful morning here. Been out for an hour walk with the doggies. Himself still in bed, we will probably head home when he gets up. Did not do a lot of work but enjoyed a bbq last night and my walks.
