Re: Army November 2022

Good god JackieClaire, your fil is certainly keeping you on your toes!
So he just woke up by himself??
He's made of tough stuff!

Very exciting Rustop, are you looking at a big job? In another life I'd be an architect, a nice one though that wouldn't charge for chats! The cheek of her molly.

On cooking, I do use my slow cooker all the time, it's super. Also have an electric pressure cooker, which is excellent, and I presume economical too. Soup maker, which I mostly use for tomato based sauces and currys. Magimix, my pride and joy. George foreman, well used too.
If I find a space, I'll justify the airfryer too!

Xmas Dinner conversation has begun :nutso:

2 eldest got their theory tests today, now the fun starts, once they get their provisional licences..

I'm glad he's okay Jackie...did they not clearly tell you what they had discovered? And the UTI...presume they discovered that with a urine test? Anyway back to the nursing home conversations I presume?

Off to Dublin for the week tomorrow..going to cook up a couple meals today...bring them with me..other than that

Good morning everyone

Good news on pa in law JC, back to the nursing home conversation I guess. Very stressful time for everyone.

How is YS these days? Double edged sword Mary, on the one hand it’s great not having to chauffeur but then you sit at home and worry about them out driving.

Good meeting with architect. We have no choice really, cottage is in area of special conservation so all sorts of reports etc will have to be done. He’s local and used to working with council. Will be a long process but we are in no rush.

Off to hardware store in a bit.

Yep, the UTI has gone due to anti-biotics and he's coherent and he's going home. I had a humdinger of a row last night with Mr. JC as he's all for leaving them happy at home with carers going in and I on the other hand I'm pressing for a care home. Surprised you didn't here the shouting over your way.
I am now going to keep my mouth zipped.

IamMary............we got the S&H a mini-metro for his 18th birthday. I loved that car. Bits kept falling off it and he'd bring the bit in the house. He had it until the third year of Uni.
It could be worse, I could be filing.

I'd be more on MrJS's idea if that's what THEY want...mum always stated she would hate hate hate to go into a nursing home so despite all the arguments myself and my sisters had we kept that wish sacrosanct ...I sometimes feel older people can be de-humanised and treated like babies...IMHO I feel that they've given so much to their families that their wishes should be taken into account...for me it'll be a nursing home all the way..would hate to be nursed by a family member...and yes there's more of a risk of falls etc if they are at home but if their house was adapted and they had those alarm necklace thingies ...but having said all that
If MIL is all packed and ready to go maybe it is what she wants and as she appears to be the one likely to be doing more minding her opinion should be strongly listened to...but omg it's difficult..they are lucky to have you and MrJC and the daughter to be in and out if needs be

Jesus Jacks how did a UTI clear up so quick - 24 hours ?

Have to agree it's a really tough one. As they are both compos mentis I suppose they need to respect their decision.
If MrJC & SIL are prepared to go in & out then that's it I suppose till the next incident - but they'll be happier maybe ?
I thought they wouldn't allow FIL home unless he had proper care?

My Aunt is 99 tomorrow. Some woman. A great laugh.
Married to a b*stard who drank and who beat her and technically raped her I suppose.
She had 14 kids foisted on her. She used to have the kids watch for him coming up the road from the pub & hide.

She'll tell us thankfully he died years ago.
She blossomed when he was gone & cursed the day she met him.

Worked hard all her life & is still able to lash out at anyone who annoys her.

She's is still in her home & God help the person who wants to put her in a Nursing Home :haha:

Going to stay in a nice hotel for the night tomorrow on our way to Dublin...max is going to kennels so we're escaping...haven't done random nights in hotels really since covid...love the pool and spa and omg I love hotel breakfasts!!! It's not posh or anything but it'll be a change.

Night all...talk tomorrow! Xx

Re: Army November 2022

Morning all. Anyone else keep waking up early. ? Bloody 5am this morning & couldn't get back .....
I long for the days I could sleep in. Rosie is snoring her little head off beside me
God I love that dog .....
She now waits for me to come home from shopping or work ...... will come out to the boot of the car with me and then 'help' me carry in the bags.
She'll oversee what comes out..... and sit there waiting for a treat :haha:

YS is entering his last week of treatment in Kerry. There is an option of continuing care in Kerry. Where some of the group, once they secure their own accomodation, work in the community and attend meetings in the facility.
Sounds better to me than coming back here and going back to life as it was ...... because I believe he will eventually drink if that happens. Maybe not over Christmas but afterwards. I know the pattern.
Four weeks therapy imo is just not long enough to learn how to cope with the same triggers that will arise from being at home and 'back in the world'.

Anyway we don't want him here - if it means everyone living on edge in case he drinks while :
out for a cycle,
walking the dog,
out for a run,
going to AA meetings,
going into Dublin city,
going anywhere really............
Nope did that for long enough.

Work today ............ :horse:

Waking up early here too...it is about 5am most days...no way should he be going back to you now if he has an option...let him get out working earning his living and set up life down there....no chance you two should have that worry ...ffs he's a middle aged man...sorry probably speaking too sharply again..I just hate seeing your life revolving around that scenario...I'll shut up now

Morning all xx

Afternoon and a lot can happen in 24 hours .
Pa-in-law is not coming home he's now slipped back into a coma despite the anti-biotics. To put it bluntly he's going to die and won't be coming home or even a care home.

Ma-in-law has deteriorated at warp speed and now needs a care-home when SIL was there yesterday she didn't know who she was and moaning no-one ever visits.
SIL has found a nursing home not too far from us. We've just been for a look around the place and its lovely. Talking to one of the nurses and asked if I could my put name down now.
We can visit whenever we want the doors are always open although we have to be buzzed in and just asked try not to come during meal times unless it was an emergency.
She's going in on Tuesday.
Sigh.
It could be worse, I could be filing.

Afternoon everyone

Sorry about pa-in-law JC but glad you got ma-in-law sorted. When the age is there it does not take much to knock them out.

Just back from west. Was lashing rain when we left but dry here. Enjoy your mini break Molly. Is YS interested in staying down there? I know he was with Waterford.

Right better go and unpack.

Sounds like the folks are getting sorted by nature really Jackie...very strange that they said the UTI caused stuff and then it was gone...anyway ..thinking of you all!

Evening. Its a roundabout there JackieClaire, but as Mollys says, nature taking its course. Your MIL will settle quickly hopefully and will get all the care she needs.

There will be no birthday cars here! Driving lessons havnt even started yet, hopefully over Xmas. The eldest is loaded so will buy his own car next year. He waits tables in a decent restaurant in skerries and makes a packet on tips!!
It's the insurance that will cost me a fortune.. your so right Rustop, I'm dreading the worry of them driving already.
Architect sounds great! Presume you need planning permission?

I love your Aunt satz123, she's seen it all. Isn't it mad the way some people can wither from their late 60s and others are just getting warmed up then. What is it, grit, purpose, just luck probably.
Absolutely, keep YS there as long as you possibly can, indefinitely maybe. Is that an option, very long term aftercare?

Mr Ms birthday today. Had to make the dreaded Lemon Meringue pie. Takes bloody ages. I cheated and bought the pastry. Lovely dinner in a very old pub near us, Man OWar. Molly will know it.
Stuffed as an egg.
