Good morning

Thanks once again for being awake and knowing what month we are in JC and for starting us off.

Wow Satz, that is scary. Shows how important it is to have things fitted properly.

Right just a quick fly by. Flying to Vienna at 5.30. Will check in if I get a chance over next few days. If not have a lovely weekend one and all.

Morning all !
Early start today gym then haircut. Then the world's my lobster

Moan Alert:

I love the cosiness of being in in winter. Just too drab out there to be bothered getting dressed for.
If I go out I love cold crisp weather - but this incessant gray with drizzley feckin' rain is depressing.

First World Problem Alert

I need a new hobby that doesn't involve going out in the rain & cold.
I've been baking bread & my favourite - Tea Brack. My best effort yet was yesterday with the addition of Irish whiskey & treacle ....... t'was delish.
But once out of the oven - the vultures in this house descend (led by me it has to be said) and it's gone within 24 hours. So we will emerge from our winter hibernation as roly polys.
I hate cleaning
I hate painting

Maybe knitting - something simple - a fancy jumper possibly? I'm sure there are some lovely new wools out there?
Anyone with an easy pattern let me know.

I love knitting...its warm and soothing and you can do it at any difficulty level...patterns are a problem...90% of them seem to be fierce old fashioned but find a nice wool shop and dig around...I'm loving it this winter...takes the guilts from lolling around and I can't bake cos Joe eats it all!

Oh I love a good coat, that you can look a state underneath, but throw it on and it changes everything. Then a good hat to hide the bad hair day. Not forgetting the boots!! I have the same boots for donkeys years. I get them heeled as needed. My cousin gets hers resprayed all the time. A decent pair will live on and on..

Thats mad about your sisters fireplace satz123.. I know our flu was put in by out builders, not by a special fire guy. Good to know.
Chimney will be done every year now. He was in and out really quick and very clean.

Hobbies.. are you talking about something to do on your own or to socialise with people. I'm all for the latter.. Like Rustops croquet group. Meet up once a week but still work away at home.
Book club. Bridge. Country women's association. Yoga (love this). But the one I think you should really consider is writing.. (my closest collegue in work has been writing a novel for the past 4 years. Finished now and I'm getting a copy to read/edit soon). Take up a creative writing class to get you started and don't underestimate your talent, you have several books in you!!

Re: December Army 2022

Afternoon all,
I was busy tidying my floor wardrobe (floordrobe?) I'm messier than a 13 year old and now its all nicely hung up or shoved in the washing basket.

After I started the thread yesterday my best friend (we started being friends at infant school) came over. Bless her heart she'd come straight from the vets and she was in bits. She'd been to the vets and her put her cat was so poorly they had to put him to sleep. Sydney (the cat) was 16 years old.

And you couldn't make it up but Pa-in- Law has woken up. He's coherent and if he keeps it up will be going to the same nursing home that Ma-in-Law is.

My posh coat came from Tesco. Suits weddings, christenings and funerals.

I love knitting and I also do tapestry and embroidery.
It could be worse, I could be filing.

Thanks Mers - I'm flattered  I like the sound of that Creative Writing Class Will investigate.
Do yous want to be in me first buke ?

And Molls I'm on the hunt for just a simple v neck pattern in soft, not itchy, wool that one would wear with a midi skirt. I think I know where there is a wool shop close by. ZZZOOOOMMMM !!
It's a project.

I actually had YS laugh at me yesterday & say he had to restrict my screen time. I have the phone, laptop, tv and now a smartwatch....... :haha:

My first proper job was in insurance. After I'd seen the world - just London & Manchester actually. :haha:
I came home to 'settle down' - I was 20.

Anyway the reason for this ancient history lesson is related to knitting.
While I was waiting to find a job to knock on my door - I took up knitting. I knit lovely mohair hats for everyone.

The day I went for my interview in the proper job ,I sported a gorge red hat & a swingy coat.
I was hired straight away ............ funny that ...... how clearly I remember that day
JackieClaire poor Sydney - she'll miss him

In my first 'proper' job I was involved in what they called 'computer implementation' into Bank of Ireland - it literally was what it says -- computerising the bank -- how long ago was THAT!!!! Anyways -- when we finally had the branches all up and running and just minor hiccups and queries to be dealt with we were sort of left 'jobless' (on full pay of course and in a lovely office) for 6 months till the branches were secure in themselves with their 'puthers.... so we (two of us) decided to start knitting -- omg it was like a knitting factory -- I remember knitting a great big aran jumper for Joe in 4 working days:egad: and the senior manager came in and begged us to knit a cardi for his wife.... it was the best of craic -- best 6 months EVER --- shock of my LIFE having to actually do real work after that!!

Spent the day in Galway -- it was just lovely -- 40 mins down the road and such lovely shops -- much more 'real' than Dublin -- proper fruit and veg shops -- amazing butchers --- and proper little toy shops - not just the great big toy stores like Smyths -- so got all the grandkids bought for -- THRILLED I am -- so relaxing now very self satisfied indeed!
