Christmas decs? I am in two minds at the moment. On the one hand I cannot think of that at the mo on the other it might be nice. Hmmmmm

Ah definitely pop some decorations up starty. You don't have to go mad, but the absence of them wouldn't be good for the head right now.

We kicked it off yesterday. It's a bit feckin job!! Have a fake tree from last year when the house was upside down, but kids insisting on a real one too - Even the tree hugger, so I'm saying nothing...

Last door painted, but had to leave some of the skirting boards..thankfully I'm not a perfectionist

Welcome home Rustop, enjoy the big clean. You back in work this week?

Ah Shuggie Bain....lovely read!
I hate fake trees...would rather none than a fake...not a huge impact on environment I tell myself as they plant one for each one taken...

Morning everyone

Took these two days off. Wanted the Monday and Tuesday of Christmas week but could not get them as there was no one to cover for me. Will get my cleaning done.

We usually put up two trees, real one in the sitting room and a fake one which looks real in the sunroom. The latter is the girls tree which they usually decorate together. All the homemade decorations they made at school etc. I have a few decorations from my mothers tree. They Were getting a bit tattered but one daughter got me glass ball decorations one year that opened and put the old decorations inside them. Also buy decorations when travelling, brought one back from Vienna.

Right better get my rubber gloves on, catch you all later.

What a brilliant idea with the old decorations! Wonder where she got them?
How's the cleaning going? I just swept the floor wiped the windowsills and up went everything! One of our electric bikes arrived today....very very exciting...need a wee bit of assembly....no bother...Max is helpingray:

Good morning everyone

Have a feeling she might have gotten them in Norway Molly, never saw anything like them here. Lovely idea and one of my best presents.

Got one room done yesterday. Washed skirting boards, lights, cleaned top of everything. Not done very often and as we have the stove in that room it does generate dust. Between that and the dogs! Enjoy your electric bikes, are the roads quiet around there? Mad busy here, would not risk going out on them.

Believe cold snap coming. Really don’t want heavy snow. Right better get moving and start todays jobs.

Apologies for disappearing.
Its doom and gloom again...............Pa-in-law is dying (no polite way to put it) and just being kept hydrated but could shuttle off any minute . Mr. JC got time off work and his sister are taking turns to sit with him although he hasn't a clue there's someone there............ I'm wandering around with a knot of anxiety in my stomach.
It could be worse, I could be filing.

Rusters - glad someone else is finding mounds of dust. I may try what you've done & tackle just one room at a time.

I was offered 2 more days at work & I'm taking them - just on a trial basis. ( read as : 'for the winter - come Spring I'll review' )
I'm just not prepared to hang around here all day every day. If I do go out I usually spend money so I'll we saving - plus a job is something to get up & dressed properly for.
I am never sick & still able-bodied so I will attempt to stay young by continuing to work.

It also means mixing with younger & older and getting different perspectives on life instead of listening to who has died in the town this week

Good for you! I feel completely in control of my own life down here so perfectly happy to participate in my hobbies and 'plan' my days whereas in Dublin I just felt I would have been a mother and a granny and a general dogsbody if I was at home all day...sort of on-call for everything....deffo good for you!!!

It comes to us all Jackie and he's had a long life...why are you so anxious tho?

Right am in the bed..looking forward to the snow....LOVE IT!! Bet we'll get none!

We do the same with our tree Rustop, the real one is a mis match of every decoration under the sun, from school to presents. The fake is the pinterest one :haha:
Might do the rooms like that too, one by one, good idea.

Great move satz123. For all those reasons. Hows YS?

Your going to love those bikes Molly, im jealous! Maybe after this big freeze we’re supposed to be getting :yikes1:

Sorry to hear about your Pa in law JC, but you never know! He’s certainly keeping you all on your toes.

Morning all!

Mr S has got the date for his CT scan which is 20/01 so that's good. Another hurdle to overcome and hopefully nothing more to worry about.

I have been off work this week and been busy with silly stuff like car MOT servicing and taking my boy to the vets for his laser treatment. Last one today thankfully. Then he should be able to start getting back to normal with good walks etc. That will be good as I feel mentally better when I can go out for long walks. Still not got any decos up. The thought just feels too exhausting somehow. Maybe in the days to come I will feel more like it. We are spending Christmas at home just us for the first time in years. I think that will be nice just curled up on the sofa with nice food and doggos and no pressure to be anywhere or make small talk. We have a number of Christmas get togethers beforehand though. That will be enough for me I think. We have had to call off the trip to London with Chill as the train strikes have scuppered it so will rearrange for end of Feb.

The big freeze has started here Mary! The heating bills are going to be scary unfortunately and I keep reading about poor families who are going cold and hungry, I think it will be carnage everywhere this winter which isnt helping my anxiety. I am craving a bit of certainty at the moment and it isnt really on the horizon just now.

Good idea about taking the extra hours Satz if you can. A busy mind and all that. Is YS doing OK?

Morning folks...oh that's great you have a date for the scan..something to focus on and not be left stumbling in the dark.
The energy bills might not be as bad as we think. The government have given 200 euros to every house 3 times so it'll cover the winter...we just got a bill on the higher rates and we only have to pay 50 euros for 2 months....we've been fairly careful but not ridiculous...well cosy and warm..just not wasting anything. And petrol is down as well so yeah...may not be so bad.

Shame about Chill...didn't know ye were getting strikes.

Bit cool this morning!

We get £400 to cover the winter so 67 quid per month. A bit of help but considering not fantastic as they want £271 per month for us! We are already paying nearly 200 and its terrifying. The dog is in fleece pjs and a jumper I am sleeping in a jumper and an oversized fleece. Everyone is striking here. Trains, post, firemen, nurses, teachers and others threatening. God knows where it will end.
