Got the grub started so no one will be hungry anyways! Rough day down here..fierce windy and sleety so nice big fire blazing and nice dinner on!
I have absolutely have no idea............my Ma and Pa were both done within a week.

Ma-in-Law was offered a lovely downstairs room at my SIL's house (its got a downstairs bathroom as well) and she point blank refused and decided she wanted to be at the home. We'd already had a look around it when Pa-in-Law was alive and they decided between themselves that's where they wanted to go. We actually had a look around before they'd decided and it is lovely. We can visit anytime we want (they don't have visiting hour thingy), the rooms have a bathroom which are quite big and quite honestly I think I'll put my name down now. I should mention she's as stubborn as mule so and it was her choice. Mind you she's 98 so she gets away with it.
Did my ego a boost when I got ogled by a bloke who was over a hundred when we visited.

And yes its a bugger waiting so long for the funeral but it seems to be the norm over here these days.

God yes a terribly long time Jacks. Like people are grieving but then have to go back to work .... be normal .... then out again for the funeral. Sounds a bit cruel.

Molls ye'll have a ball all squished into Jilly's gaff. Will have to talk to each other & not hide out in different rooms after an hour or two.
The Germans have changed flights to 30th December - so I'll have Christmas dinner for them on New Year's Eve.
That will be my only 'nod' to NY festivities.

Oh I'm delighted for you...and instead of NYE being a dirge you'll enjoy it...think jilly and Tilly and maybe Adam and Jen are coming down here for new year as well so I'm not getting off scot free! Ah it'll be lovely for you..any more word from YS?

Well thats something to look forward to Satz. We all know that Xmas is a glorified Sunday dinner, how we all got so obsessive about it, I don't know. Include myself in that category.
Glad to hear YS got in touch. Wanting to come home is a step forward. Let's see how much he wants it now or if more time away will increase the want..

At least you have a date now JackieClaire.. I suppose the timing Is unfortunate. Isn't it odd the way we are so different about funerals. My sisters buddy passed away on Monday (breast cancer, late 40s). Funeral on Thursday and only because they didn't want it to cash with one of her kids birthdays on Wednesday.

Yeah Molls has it right. They are willing to travel to see Mammy - which is great. But then most of the time they are at a distance where they can't be in & out all the time - and Nan & Grandad have a life of their own. - Perfect.

Awake at sparra' fart today..... actually feeling refreshed after a good sleep.
Anyone with trouble sleeping - I find Nytol brilliant. Not a sleeping pill per se but an antihistamine with side effect of helping with sleep.
They don't work for everyone but they do for me.

No more word Molls. He text his Dad to say he'd be home before Christmas - and sober.
Reminds me of the time when he was adamant he was going to his sister's wedding.
He arrived home the night before the worst for wear but was strong willed enough not to drink on the day.

His idea of 'sober' a far cry from ours.

I am intrigued to know where he has been staying.

I think what we may forget is the pain it takes to 'be sober' for that day or occasion...poor bugger...he really does want to be 'normal'....its a shame he wasted those opportunities in treatment but it may yet stand to him.. I do feel for him and Christmas is a tough time.

I use nytol all the time...I'm guessing I'm probably immune to them at this stage but the placebo effect seems to work...JC told us about them years ago!!

I so agree Mary...poxy overrated Sunday dinner...most aren't even that mad about turkey and ham and since religion is blown to the four winds it seems a bit pointless really (maybe it's the lack of drink:welldone

Fingers crossed for you Satz!

Do you guys eat brandy butter or anything like that with alcohol in?

Mr S is going through everything with a magnifying glass to make sure not a speck of it in. He was given a bottle of AF wine from a customer and he checked with a fine tooth comb to see if there was even 0.001% in there I am sooooooo proud of him! Over 2 years he's been sober now! I so remember the last Christmas, he was sober for the day but prior and after he wasn't and it was dreadful

2 years ...well fair dues to him...sounds like he's definitely serious this time...I don't drink any of those no alcohol drinks...purely because I don't like them...ironically Joe studies the labels on Heineken bottles to make sure its 00.
I won't eat for instance a baileys cheesecake cos the booze isn't cooked into it...or a trifle...brandy butter isn't a thing over here really so not sure if the alcohol is burnt off or not...but I deffo use wine in cooking...even buy it specifically...

Good morning everyone

I can’t keep my eyes open these nights past 10 pm but seem to be waking very early as a result. Have been awake this morning since 5. Just lay there and read my book.

You are right Mary, it is a glorified chicken dinner. Don’t know what all the fuss is about. Fingers crossed he is with you and sober on Christmas Day Satz. Well done Mr S. I’m a bit like Molly, use it cooking but never bother when I am out. Girl beside me on Saturday night was having af gin and af white wine. She said it was nice. Not out enough to be bothered and was happy with my Diet Coke.

Work lunch today and a list of things to do in the house. Better get moving.

Never had alcohol free wine or beer. Mainly because the alcohol was for effect not for the flavour.
All that shite about wine & smelling it , swirling it is pure bullshit - just shaggin' drink it.
Dope on tv yesterday droning on & on about what wine to have with what food.

In the end he let his guard down & said he'd have any wine with a packet of crisps.:haha:

I deffo cook with wine and also buy it specially.

One day I was making tea brack that said add a dash of whiskey when soaking the fruit. I lashed it in but forgot then when emptying the bowl and licking the wooden spoon :egad:
Nothing happened happened thankfully - I didn't go off on a mad one. I'd imagine it would take more than that.
But have custard instead @starty

I remember genuinely picking up the wrong glass..my friend was sitting beside me...and to this day I don't know if I swallowed any or not...it bothered me hugely at the time but no...nothing happened...I think the 'intent' has something to do with it...but yeah...I'd stick to the custard:harhar:

Afternoon,
Get the sh@t out of the way and may be repeating myself but haven't got a fecking clue why its taking so long for the funeral and basically haven't got a clue why. Mr. JC's mum is not long for this world and but I don't think they do one and get one free.. He's getting cremated.

Been at my coffee morning at the church. Mr. JC told me it was quite mild outside...............it wasn't it was fecking freezing and windy when I went out at 10am.

I have tried non-alcholic wine and after a couple of sips poured it down the sink. Same as you Satz, I wanted the effect. I don't cook with alcohol either even when I was drinking. Alcohol was for drinking not wasted on food :egad:

Its quiz night tomorrow and the prize for winning is four bottles of wine and not bragging but we've won a good few times.............I'm sticking ours in bottle bags and giving them out as Chrimbo pressies and taking a couple down to Jenny's for Christmas dinner.
It could be worse, I could be filing.
