Nice work on the 21 days Inchy. My advice would be to go within. By that I mean retreat for some healing withdrawal time. Take away as much stress/stimulation/boredom or anything that might trigger for a few weeks. Thats what I would or have done to help me through the initial and work on my mindset. I read lots and I mean lots of books on recovery and personal stories. I watched films about alcoholics that were incredibly challenging to watch when I related them to my own story and I took the time to plan a life that I would like to live. I kind of agree that quitting on the Sunday might not be the best time for you. Whenever it feels best is the right time. I always like Mondays to be my day one for most things

Night everyone...sorry busy day..up with Jilly and just gone to bed...Inchy ..I agree with everything Starty says....great advice!
THE best think I was ever told bout sleep ot indeed lack of it....I only sleep about 5 hours and even that is broken sleep...but when whinging to my GP in early sobriety about not being able to sleep he just said 'sure it won't kill you'.....brilliant!! I embrace wakefulness now and do all my reading then...either written word or audiobooks.

I could have saved myself a world of torment brought on by the fear of insomnia. Of lying awake for hours on end - mind in overdrive. YUCK !!!!
Falling asleep just when it's almost time to get up for work. yuck yuck.
A doctor once told me lack of sleep affects every function in the body. It's closely associated with hypertension, heart attacks and strokes, depression and anxiety, and a weakened immune system.
That whatever goes on when we sleep is vital to our wellbeing when awake,
Maybe having the satisfaction of say killing someone in a dream prevents us from actually killing that someone while awake and ending up in prison :haha:

Re: 2023!!! Jan Army thread
:haha: Satz! Yes, all of our bodies need a certain rhythm during sleep and if we miss the REM sleep patterns our brains dont recover or repair properly. I NEVER used to dream, my nights were broken every 2 hours to get up for a wee and although I didnt always feel tired, I often didnt feel right for one reason or another. I now dream and do get that deep sleep which must help me ole noggin cope with stuff a bit better.
I think your GP was a bit wrong there Molls, lack of sleep can certainly finish one off. Having said that, everyone has different sleep needs and some people dont need as much as others.
One of my boys had sickness and diarrhoea last night, worrying cos he's never poorly. Anyhoo, he gave me a broken nights sleep poor lad. Seems better this morning and given him just some plain chicken for his breakfast. Hopefully he got rid of whatever was troubling him. Hate it when they aren't well, its such a worry.

Morning Starts.
Nearly made it this morning before you
Poor doggie - it is so hard when they are sick. They can't tell us - just look at us with the big eyes. "help me Mammy" ....... Jesus I never worried as much about my kids when they were sick .
And both dogs & babies also have the sense not to eat when ill and let the bug work it's way through them. Unlike us adult humans who will insist "come on you HAVE to eat something". As if we would fade away by not eating for one fecking day. See it in work every day.

I think what my doc meant was the WORRY of not sleeping...every night going to bed ' oh god what if I can't sleep again?' It was the worry more often than not that ironically kept me awake! And yes...I definitely don't need this famous 8 hours sleep folk talk about....

Re: 2023!!! Jan Army thread
Evening.
Agree about sleep, I'm really aiming for my 7-8 hours these days and my body craves it now, but I get what mollys doc says too. When I can't sleep, if I worry about it, it's a vicious circle, so I try to embrace it as much as I can.
I use melatonin, sparingly, as A. Can only get it over the counter from the states and B. I'm afraid to get addicted to anything else!
It's brilliant and conks me out on the bad nights.
The year + will fly Rustop and you can enjoy all the planning. That used to help me sleep too, before we did the refurb.
Did a job on my collar bone/shoulder. I think in the gym. Couldn't even take off my t shirt for the last 2 days. Went for a fast run earlier, knowing i could make it worse..i'd say it's 80% better since!!! So weird. Wonder if I pulled it out of a socket and it went back in during the run. I'm not that Hardy though.
Glad YS is doing OK. Nice to have him back like this.. who knows what's ahead, but he is running out of options.
Good luck JackieClaire with the cousin! We will be here for the post funeral vent. XAF - July 19th 2015 :happy2:

Re: 2023!!! Jan Army thread
Morning everyone
Thankfully the temperature has risen again. Was out walking at 8 am with the doggies. Much darker in the west than the east coast at that time. Trying to get a few things done and then meeting a friend for dinner this evening. I was or am one of the lucky ones. Fall asleep as soon as I hit the pillow.

Re: 2023!!! Jan Army thread
Afternoon,
Got rid of my sponging cousin first thing this morning..............I'm surprised you didn't hear the sigh of relief when he decided to get an earlier train. Handed him over to my brother and his Mrs for the wake. Friday is Mr. JC's busiest day of his week so we got a get out card.
starty............I'll send my cousin over he's enough to make anyone sleep. Hate when our furry friends are poorly. We did the chicken or scrambled eggs when our dogs are poorly. It could be worse, I could be filing.

Re: 2023!!! Jan Army thread
Hello all my beautiful Army friends. I want you to know my radiation treatments are going well at Stanford Oncology. I will be living over here in Palo Alto for another six weeks. It is 3 1/2 hours from my home. The treatments are Monday through Friday. The only issues I have had is some radiation induced neuropathy and some fatigue , which are bothersome. I will bring this to the attention of my medical team on Monday. Of course, wearing a diaper is just another joy for me, haha. However, I have been exercising by trying to walk at least three miles a day. Not being well enough to run or bike has been frustrating but I just need to go along with the process. I do get tired but I have committed myself to the next Dublin Marathon which the lovely Mary recently competed in. My daughter Emma will join me in Ireland. Whether it’s cancer, addiction, or anything else that limits one’s life experience, setting a goal and attaining it is life changing. It’s all about personal responsibility and self love in my opinion For me, it will be when I can post that there is No Evidence of Disease. Blessings xOutside of a dog a book is mans best friend. Inside of a dog its too dark to read
