Re: February Army Thread

Morning all,

Rich was given a bottle of 0% chardonnay at Christmas. Took it to my brothers for Christmas lunch (just for me and Rich) I liked it funnily enough. Rich preferred coke (cola type :haha

Finally booked to have the garden done. They are digging out all the old concrete outside the back door and taking away an ancient patio then block paving the lot and making a sleeper wall with sleeper steps. Should look so much better than we have had for the last 25 years.

Not heard of that man but 41 is shockingly early time to die. Such a shame

Morning all...big rugby day today
Ah here...lesson for NE on our local politics...Ireland playing France today...we normally LOVE the French but not when playing rugby...Scotland playing Wales...oh we do love the Scots cos they rebel against everything like we do and the Welsh are a bit watery (apologies if anyone's granny in Welsh)...England playing Italy...English rugby can be a bit triumphalist and are normally Irelands main opponent in rugby so yup...we'll probably be up for Italy even tho they couldn't beat a bat in a bag....so there....the complexities of having great English mates on here but rugby is king today:welldone:

I always support Scotland in the rugby Molly, I've Scots, Irish and Welsh ancestry so like to pick and choose.

I like that they're making more alcohol free stuff but for the life of me I don't think I could go near it, I thought about trying some of the 0% beers but least early on I feel like the taste would tempt me too much towards old habits.

Still having a rough time with the whole funding thing - funny thing is a friend of mine didn't get it either and I've been reassuring her it'll be fine, she lives at home though so for her its less of a hit on a practical level. We both have a hard time with failure, we've not talked about it but I think its hit us hard on that level. I know I can't think about it, if I do I just replay things that don't have answers or I can't change.

Ah Inchy....try and move on from it (easy for me to say) but it could eat you up wondering the why's and wherefores....I usually console myself about things like that that maybe the funding had a touch of nepotism attached...then it doesn't feel personal!!

I am WRECKED watching the rugby....what a match!!!!

What a game indeed!!! Climbed Nephin mountain this morning and back in time for the match. Great day so far, although exhausted from the climbing but I’ll survive.

Waves to everyone. Feet up and not moving for the evening. Dinner in slow cooker, chicken korma.

You MUST be exhausted alright!
Not quite a mountain but we got the pond filled and a nice wee waterfall made with proper Mayo boulders dug up when digging flower beds last year...its all beginning to look lovely...have to plant up now with ferns and heather's etc....very exciting now that it's moving along.

Late check in from moi. You didn't half thump the France today. We've got Italy tomorrow.
Been up at my sister in law's to celebrate my mother in law's 98th birthday. She's very frail but still got all her marbles. Little Alfie ( our grandson) stole the show. He's just on the point of crawling and that's gong to be fun for my son and his missus.
Then tomorrow we're taking a Ukranian lad out and about. Poor beggar has been stuck in a hotel for months.
It could be worse, I could be filing.

Good for you...do you have to cook and clean and all or is it just a room and they look after themselves?

Evening. Technically early morning.
Ne, your posts cracked me up, we are actually a very confusing bunch!

On 00 alcohol, I also see zero (to use their own advertising) point in them.

Who was asking about the airfryer the other day? Satz?
I cook everything it in. Roasted veg, nuts for salads, scones (once), all sorts of meat, roast potatoes (total winner). Basically anything that can go into the oven. Did an omelete one day.. need a silicon dish for that I think.

Running in donadea forest this morning
Beautiful spot.

Re: February Army Thread

Y'all are confusing. I use the word y'all because I've lived in the south for too long, but also because it encompasses all of you all. I know of no better word, except the f-bomb, which also encompasses almost everything positive and negative. In this case, y'all is just encompassing, not pejorative.

Gardens are yards, right? I mean that your garden is my grass, and my garden is something that has plants and flowers and stuff? Not that grass isn't green, but it's a yard here. So how do you all distinguish between what you're growing and what just grows? (Gardens vs. yards?) I swear I'm not being disingenuous. I google it and I get 12 answers.

And what's that about a pond? I've gotta assume we're talking about an actual pond. Given how much I resent taking care of the yard/gardens, and how much I would love both chickens and a pond, I can say without reservation I feel for you and envy you and wouldn't trade you for a minute. So much work.

Dammit. I'm responding to and thinking of things on other threads I've read throughout the day.

I can't keep up with, or care less about, sports. Especially not ones that aren't popular in the US. At least I know the rules for those. And I love soccer/football, in a distant way. Rugby? I watched one rugby match years ago, and it was brutal. The only thing I know about it is that it's apparently popular enough that my nephew has a chance at a scholarship to college. And not even a scholarship in Europe!

I'm going to start a PHP program on Monday, if all things get in order, meaning I get to the intake tomorrow morning. I won't bore you with it here.

Edited a thousand times, sorry.

Morning all,

Ne, to us over the pond, the garden is the outside area attached to the house. So it can be lawned, have flower beds, walls, ponds, or just be slabbed or gravelled (courtyard garden). I am sure someone else can probably explain it more eloquently than I

Mary, it should only take a few days thankfully. Don't like having workmen around so thats good! We have raised lawn with a large patio area and directly outside my back door is concrete so very ugly. We are having the patio removed and partially returfed. Then where the garden is raised, they are adding retaining sleeper walls and removing the ugly wall that is there currently. They will also block pave all directly outside the back door and down the side of the house with a rustic looking block. Start Tuesday and done by the weekend hopefully. There will be a lot of noise and mess which won't bode well for my home working

Morning,
Ne/Neva Eva..........we may speak the same language but the yard is a garden.
As we're taking my new Ukranian friend out for the morning we'll be going to garden centre with a cafe attached. He's only about 35 and its such a shame that he's more or less stuck in a hotel room.
I've got a cousin that went over in the USA (Boston) for three months working for his firm over here..............but he met a woman that he would go on to marry so he's still there.
When he got married there 17 of us went over for the wedding. Didn't half puzzle the staff on the flight over that we knew so many people who knew each other. We also managed a couple of days in New York.
Our Mikey (the dog) also comes from the Ukraine although he was fostered out to a town near us. He's picked English easily especially if you've got a treat hid behind your back.

I'll be watching the Super Bowl tonight. It starts 11:30pm over here and I'll fit for nothing until about Tuesday.

I wonder if there's a forum somewhere for people addicted to Google.
It could be worse, I could be filing.
