Re: February Army Thread
Evening folks, nearly embarrassed to be posting after disappearing for such a time but sure here goes. Great news on Max from a fellow furry friends lover Molly dear. Nothing of note to tell yiz since last I posted, life is good and my sobriety suits me and my family oh so very well. When I think back it still amazes me how in my mid 50s I found My Way Out of the madness and I will always be grateful for all the support and advice I received from you folks over many years of trying but not succeeding. Until one day it stuck, one happy joyous day and life began.Ethanol is a toxic chemical, why would I drink it?

On the plus side Molls - I told MrS about poor Max and at last he has been convinced to stop giving Rosie chicken bones - which she absolutely adores......
Raw are ok because they aren’t brittle. I truly hope he wasn’t giving cooked one’s?
Hey tabbers lovely to see you!

Re: February Army Thread
All good here Starty, think I've put in about 20 hours on the PhD in the last two days, eyes are getting a little tired but my sleeps still buggered so might as well make the most of it. Blasted pens keep running out of ink from all the notes I'm taking haha. Volunteered to help out at a big music festival in the summer for a free ticket, haven't done one since 2014 and never done one sober or as a volunteer so be an interesting experience. Filling up my gigging calendar for the year, good to have things to break up the studying.They/He

Re: February Army Thread
Wow you do keep yourself so busy Inchy. It must be lovely to have an all consuming project on the go. And getting stuff in your calander to look forward to is another good thing I understand. I have never really been much good at doing that. Planning stuff always gives me the heebies. I usually wait for stuff to just come up. My brother is always saying I need something to look forward to which is true but I think I just prefer to let stuff happen
Hoping that young Max is back where he belongs today and you can have a rest Molls!
Off to the country park in a mo. It will be a lovely day....when the suns up!

Re: February Army Thread
Good morning everyone
It is indeed a beautiful morning. Birds were singing as I came back in. Enjoy your walk Starty.
That’s wonderful news Molly. Lord only knows what it was but as long as he has pulled through, that’s the main thing.
Off to work so better get a move on

Aah Molly, what good news to wake up to. Even Mr. JC was worried.
He'll prolly come home with a cone round his neck to stop him chewing his stitches..............I'll let you google them. I know its serious but it doesn't half look funny. It could be worse, I could be filing.

Re: February Army Thread
Question, mostly for my fellow former users of pain pills but open to advice - I was prescribed painkillers for recurring pain, pain has recurred pretty bad, paracetamol/ibuprofen aren't doing the trick, I worked in pharmacy for 13+ years so know all the regular remedies - wtf do I do when I actually need pain relief? I feel like I'm cheating if I use painkillers, but I don't know how else to manage thisThey/He

Re: February Army Thread
Thats very tricky Inchy. Have you tried naproxen? There are many other non opiate based painkillers. Depends on the pain too. Some nerve pains respond well to amytriptiline. Opiates aren't actually that good for pain they just kid your head into thinking there is no pain or less pain around. Other options are exercise, heat, cold and physio.
How's the boyMolls?

Editing to add: the main reason I hadn't thought to try the amitriptyline is because I remembered somebody mentioning it can be used recreationally. First thing I do when considering trying it? Google 'Can I get high on Amitriptyline?' FFS. I'm shite at putting up with myself sober even when I actually want to be sober.
Editing again to add: In fairness to me, the nerve pain that I'm dealing with is from an injury that stopped me playing music and kind of ruined my life a few years ago, I tried killing myself twice over it (I was bad at it, obviously). I haven't made an attempt in 5 years, I mostly do better dealing with what happened now but I'd rate this near the top of the 'triggering sh*t' list for me so yeah, this is hard and poorly timed and sucks.Last edited by Battle_for_the_sun; February 20, 2023, 10:50 AM.They/He

Re: February Army Thread
Evening all...bit self absorbed here so sorry you're having hassles Inchy...withdrawals don't have to be tremors and violent illness ...more often they are feelings of depression...worry...sleeplessness ..fatigue...headaches...but as they say....this too shall pass...you're doing great!
I know nothing bout pills etc. but I take disprin for headaches!!!
Max is home...its not till you see them you realise just how ill he was/is....not himself at all...and yes Jackie he has the cone which I feel is frightening him a bit...he's to go back for check-up on Wed and the stitches come out 10 days post-op...think that's a while off tho.
We were supposed to be going away at the weekend but cancelled that so we'll just hang out with sick doggie and relax! He can't understand why he can't play ball or chase flies!Contentedly sober since 27/12/2011
