Re: Happy Army June
Morning all,
Been a bit unwell this week with heatstroke which was absolutely awful. Still feeling fragile but much better than I was earlier. I guess now I am approaching my latter years I need to be a bit more careful :haha:
I think working on the house if you are planning to stay is an essential expense. And releasing equity makes it possible.
If YS is anything like me, he probably gets bored or pressurised with the day to day and looks for a buzz which inevitably will go wrong. This is despite feeling great in recovery. Sounds like he is making some progress which is great.
We have a bit of damp on a couple of downstairs walls that I have had a builder round to look at. Hoping he can sort at a cheaper price than the damp specialists quoted which was ?4k.
Loving my garden at the moment, all the little flowers and veg that I have planted are coming up and looking lovely.
Today is shopping and chilling. Nice

Re: Happy Army June
Heatstroke is awful Starty...Joe had it on holidays once...he actually ended up having convulsions...
A house with a BER rating of less than B makes absolutely no sense...we hardly used any energy to heat the house last winter...and that is even with a shonky back door which we must change this year...the fact the house is small is great too.
Gardened all day yesterday...and today...I am truly exhausted!Contentedly sober since 27/12/2011

Re: Happy Army June
Moan Alert : 1st world problem
There may be some bloodshed likely today as I have a guy from a company to talk about releasing a small amount of equity on this house to make some improvements.
I cannot see the logic in sitting in a house later in life worth 500k + in this day & age with all the heating going out the door & windows.
I want some improvements done while I'm still alive - and can enjoy it. It's just a mish - mash of too many doors and dodgy decor now.
We don't need to do huge amounts just some new windows & doors, overhaul of the heating system, and some other renovations to improve comfort and the BER ( energy ) rating before another winter.
All logical to me but MrS is burying his head in the sand as usual even though we are living paycheck to paycheck each month. This is fine, but no extras for major changes to the house.
MrS will wait until each thing gives up ( e.g. a 30+ year old heating system that is rattling towards death) then he will scramble to get the job done.
His MO is to get some randomer in the local that he knows to do a patch up job. We'll wait FOREVER for them to show. I'm just too old for that shite any more. That was fine when we were young - but not now.
Anyhoo we shall see.
Y'all probably won't see this for a week anyway - so we'll know who killed who by then :haha:
Evening everyone
Rant away Satz. I am inclined to agree with you. Why not have comfort in your final years. DD seems well set up and why leave a fortune to YS, might only facilitate a relapse. I think Mr S like myself came from the generation of making do. I used to take the hand me down phones etc until I saw my daughters making sure they had the best of everything, realised what a fool I was being.
I used to say old people became very selfish but you know what the older I get I can see why. That?s my rant for the day!
Another beautiful day. Sat outside until 8.30 with my crochet and it was bliss.

Re: Happy Army June
Thanks satz123, your absolutely right, so much worse out there. We will ride this wave and all the rest of them.
Your Mr S must be related to my Mr M. He is exactly the same. I ploughed ahead regardless and have no regrets. My kitchen is a dream to be in. It's the maintenance.. everything works now, it's easy to clean, modern etc.
There's only 1 question you need to ask about releasing the equity: why wouldn't you do it?
Delighted for YS...AF - July 19th 2015 :happy2:

I missed startys post about heatstroke, hope your OK!
Well done Satz, your on the way now. You'll have lots of planning and dreaming about where to spend the money. I'm seriously thinking about solar panels these days. New doors and windows will be amazing, cant wait, i LOVE renovations :haha:.
Molly let's stick this out for another short while and maybe give something else a whirl if nothing changes. We could do a private Facebook page (real names?), but then we would never have new or returning people drop by.
Find a corner in another forum? Reddit for example?
I havnt dipped onto other posts outside the army for a while, but I presume they are all struggling too..Last edited by IamMary; June 17, 2023, 05:55 PM.AF - July 19th 2015 :happy2:

I'm still hanging in...but not much longer I think...not sure if I'm 'snubbing' people just cos I can't see their posts...not sure if I'm just not seeing Jackie or is she gone again...
Anyway...just back from Galway...got a power hose thingy and some summer clothes for Joe...enjoyed not being too hot but it's back now this after....reminds me of Oney...she used to crave the 'sitting at the fire winter days'... Bit like that myself now!
Proudly picked...courgette, carrots, broad beans, peas and new potatoes out of garden for the dinner...oh and broccoli spears... Mind you I'll be leaving it all to go to seed next week !!!
Don't envy you the full house Rusters..Contentedly sober since 27/12/2011

Agreed Molls - not good enough that the Admin will not reply to messages.
I posted yesterday morning and could not see any new posts until this morning. Think we may have to face it that the site is coming to an end. There were only a few of us left who posted regularly anyways. Sad, don?t have time to think about it in this mad house at the moment.
