    Canker Sores and booze???

I have had a pretty stressful afternoon that was supposed to be fun, my autistic daughter and I went to the park for Fiesta Friday, it had a Mexican theme and they were going to have music, Mexican food, arts and crafts, etc. We have a very nice private park here.

Nothing went as planned as is to be expected when you have an autistic child. Anything can happen, it can be a great day or a horrible day. I took her there about 45 minutes before everything was to start.

She loves to be on the swing so I had her on there for about 45 minutes. Then she burst into tears for no reason. She kept crying for her Big Bird but she was holding him on the swing. When my dad took her out of the swing she grabbed my hand and escorted me out of the park. I never got my taco that I was looking forward to all day. Friday is pizza night at home and I had ordered a pizza and had it delivered to my house before we even went to the park.

We came home and she did not want her pizza, she kept saying "bee, bee, bee" which meant she wanted to watch a Baby Bumblebee dvd (special dvds for autistic kids), which I put on but that upset her too. She ended up having cereal for dinner and within this 2 hour time period I developed canker sores in my mouth. Is this from stress or from booze or both? I have not been good with the drinking lately because I still have that eye issue and am afraid to take my meds and have just been plain bad. So on top of having red eyes that won't stop tearing now my mouth feels like it is on fire and my child is making me really sad. PLus I am crying so that is not helping my eyes. Makes me wonder if all the crying I do has messed with my eyes.

She is asleep now and I cannot even eat because it hurts too much. I googled canker sore remedies and causes, nothing mentions booze as a cause but a treatment is a tea bag because it has tannin in it, which wine also does, so I opted for the wine instead of the tea. I am not drunk because it hurts too much to drink it as quickly as I normally would to be perfectly honest.

Anyway I had a shitass day but wondering if anyone else gets canker sores more than they think they should. I am an absolute stresscase all the time so I am not surprised I have them or get them every few months or so but I don't want mouth cancer because I drink. Just looking for some feedback here. I am in so much f-ing pain and sick of everything right this minute. Thanks. At least Federer and Roddick won today.

Happy, are you prone to getting cold sores? I have a friend who gets them all of the time, very randomly, because the virus just lives in her body and has no rhyme nor reason as to when they will come out, and she is not a drinker AT ALL. Stress can definitely trigger them, but I have never heard of booze being a true contributor to them. Hope tomorrow is a brighter day for you!

I get canker sores all the time from stress and wearing myself out. The alcohol does not give you canker sores but lowers your immune system and makes you vulnerable to breakouts.
Sometimes I wonder...."Why is that frisbee getting bigger?"...and then it hits me.

You can get canker sores inside your mouth...not just on your lip

                  Canker Sores and booze???

Hi. Don't blame booze on canker sores, I've had many and the usual culprits are stress, strep and PMS.

I think if you rinse your mouth with Pepto Bismol several times a day may help.

Hope you feel better, you certainly have a lot to deal with.

I did read about Mylanta and Milk of Magnesia but not Pepto. To think of it I could be PMS'ing on top of the rest.

Pepto by my rotten luck is all I have here. I may try it anyway until I can get to the pharmacy tomorrow. Internet also says gargle with hydrogen peroxide but not to overdo it.

PP they are all inside not on the outside, the outside ones are cold sores and are usually caused by the herpes virus.

Hi Happy (although I'm sure you'r not):

Yes you can get cold sores inside your mouth.

A girl on my daughter's softball team got them a few weeks ago. I asked her mom why she wasn't playing & she said that one day it hurt to eat, her gums were swollen & red & when she went to her dentist-he said cold sores. We got interrupted so I didn't know what she took for it.

Here's a good reference: MedlinePlus Medical Encyclopedia: Mouth sores

                          Canker Sores and booze???

                          Happy,
What does a kanker sore look like? Like a clear water blister? There is definitely a difference between that herpes stuff and a blister on the inside of your mouth. I find this interesting because occasionally if you bite your lip, or the inside of your mouth by accident, it will result in a blister. I have had a clear, little blister/ bubble on the inside of my bottom lip for about seven or eight weeks. I almost forget its there until I brush my teeth and the toothbrush hits it. My husband says, "Just pop it with a needle!.... but normally they go away after a few days, not weeks or months. So I think mine is definitely stress. I wont pop it because I use it as a stress gauge. It will go away when I de-stress I guess!

Hope I didnt gross anyone out. I definitely think its a stress thing.

Thanks for the link. I read all of it- it's definitely canker sores that I have I think. Plus there's a semantic issue too. My symptoms mirror canker sores and I have had them before but was so scared they could evolve into mouth cancer. Sounds like that is not the case, I am just a stressed out looneytunes. Thanks again :h

                              Hey Camper--
I used to get canker sores all the time--at times of stress and PMS--but mostly, for me, from drinking citrus stuff...grapefruit juice was a guaranteed canker sore....seems like one of the constants here is too much acid (citrus fruit, tomatos...), which would explain why antacids would be helpful.....

I also found peroxide to help--but the best thing was never to drink OJ or grapefruit juice...I hardly get them since I stopped drinking those.....

I'm so sorry you're having a hard time...my nephew is autistic and I know what a struggle it can be...:l :l
