    Day 12 dinner with friends

I had dinner with work/friends tonight. It was to welcome a new person and celebrate a good audit score. Five of us went- three drinking two not. I was one of the two having diet coke. It was not akward like I thought it would be...no one cared! I think my one friend was a bit surprised and just said 'oh, ok. But I think I'll get a big girl drink" and that was it.
I guess I feel weird if I am drinking and others aren't and figured everyone else would feel the same way. Maybe that just isn't the case. Anyone else have a similar exp?

I actually got dessert tonight. I'm usually annoyed when it is dessert time because it means no more wine. People get coffee and the wine glasses leave the table. I usually want another glass of wine for dessert.
Tonight though I was the first to say...'yea dessert and can I have a cup of coffee?' That felt great.

Now I'm home and sober and ready for bed. I will feel great in the morning and not have to worry about anything I may have said- or have to try to remember what I said! I told stories and laughed and talked and...now I don't have to worry- I know exactly what I said. And that is great. And with no wine I probably saved about 20.00 on the bill!
Thanks to anyone reading this - I was looking forward to coming home tonight and reporting out good news.

This group has been great. I have related to so so many postings here and it is a huge help.

    Right on, Lisa.

Put that on your chalk board of successes - and soon to be many more.

What did ya have for dessert?

                Day 12 dinner with friends

                Well done Lisa

It is amazing how you can cope better as time goes on. The wife and I went out to see La dvainci code and then went for Tappas afterwards. She had a large glass of wine and I had fizzy water. I really wanted to have a glass of wine, (day 21 of abs), but resisted. I should have taken some glutamine with me as I have not tried it yet, but then did not need it. Keep it up, you are another inspiration. I know there must be people on the site with a much bigger problem than I, but as you must know, it CAN be done with some determination. Again, well done

                  Day 12 dinner with friends

I was happy to read some replies earlier today but then needed to come back and read them again just now!

I had an annoying day today....including an hour and a half drive to an event that was apparently not taking place today - I was invited and then invited a friend...turns out the person who invited me did not actually check out dates and times. Oh well. No problem I thought. Just an hour and a half. Then my friend decided she needed to go buy a few things and I could just watch her 5 year old for a half hour. The half hour turned into an hour and a bit.
Now we are going to dinner at a Greek restaurant (same friend and same 5 yr old)and all I can think about is a large glass of wine. I actually gave my friend a bottle of wine I had in the fridge too. I have a half open bottle in the fridge but it has been there since day 1 of my now 13 days.
You know what? Now that I've written this I think I'll be ok at the restaurant. I'm not sure why this helps so much but it really does. You guys are great- so nice to talk with people who seem to have that similar internal dialogue going on.
Thanks helen and gabby and sharyn and happycamper and donna and kirk! thanks.....going to dinner 'again'

                      lisa

I think you only think about having that drink because you are in the process, like when you are on a diet you will automatically think you need some food. Actually you probably dont need it or even want it. If you are at day 13 you are doing extremely well. As Tawny said to me, keep going, keep in on there. I am going for 30 days abs and then I will try to moderate with a couple of glasses of wine on a Fri / Sat night. Then if I can do that I know I will be able to have the odd glass when we go out even if it is midweek. But at the end of it I know I can go back to abs if needs be forever. Good luck

                        Day 12 dinner with friends

                        Hi Lisa:

I think anyone who can abstain from drinking when going out with othes is doing a great job! I thought I was going to have difficulty too, but fortunately, so far so good! It's really tough this time of year, especially with your outside barbecues and other events. Keep up the good work! I'm going on 7 weeks myself The last time I quit was 5 weeks last year and the year before. This is a record for me! I really think the supps help!
