Has anyone else gained with new found abstinance?

OK, I know those of you on topa are scratching your head right now 'cuz most of you are LOOSING weight. But I'm NOT on topa and have actually GAINED weight over these last 2 weeks! S H R I E K...

I'm taking EVERYTHING offered by MWO... The All One Powder, Vitamins, all the suppliments except Amino Complete, which should be here anyday. I'm drinking tons of water and have cut waaaaaaay back on sugar. My diet is pretty darn healthy with very few, if any, processed foods and plenty of fresh fruits, veggies, legumes and whole grains.

I am eating more these days, as I used to save up most of my calorie intake for daily beer consumption. But, even while eating regular meals, my calories stay under 2,000/day.

    I started excercising last week. Any ideas? I need HELP here people! H E L P ! ! !

    Jane,
Your body is probably still adjusting. Lots of times when people start new diet plans, their body goes into like a "starvation" mode and actually stores some fat, thinking it's freaking out, like "when's the famine coming???"
Your diet sounds great!! Are you exercising too? About every 15 minutes of brisk walking burns about 100 calories! Burn baby, burn!
Give it another couple weeks, surely cutting back on all that sugar and beer will reward your waistline soon!!
EAT SOME JALEPENOS! See my post under your recipe! Use the fat free cream cheese, maybe:lol , but there is something about the capsasin, I believe, in spicy food that speeds metabolism....gets your motor revvin!!
    Love,
    Becca

Yes, Jane, I was also disappointed that the weight just didn't fall off when I went abs; and I even gained a few. Surely, all that wine had to count for something! What I found is that it wasn't until a few weeks into it that my weight started to go down...and VERY slowly at that....but like Rebecca said, it takes time for your body to adjust...we didn't get here overnight!

After 60 days abs (with Campral rather than Topomax), I have FINALLY lost about 12 lbs, but I have to acknowledge that I have given up all that cheese I was eating, and cut down on the starch (pasta, bread, potatoes, etc.)...then things really started to happen weightwise... AND I started to feel better!

Be patient with yourself...it WILL happen, just not as fast as we had hoped--
      hugs, susan

        Yep Jane,

Me too. It took about 4 to 6 weeks before I saw a significant change. Give it time. Keep drinking lots of water and keep up the exercise. It will happen!

          Well that's encouraging! ty...

I wondered if it might be that my body has basically been in starvation mode (while drinking) and now that it's actually getting food, it's storing up just in case of another nutrition famine...

But that'll settle down again right? Did I get it straight?

Another question though... I find that by the end of the day, my abdomen is sooooo bloated that I look almost preggers! What's that all about?

I added acidophillus to my nutrition regime. I read something about it helping aid either digestion or absorption. Geees, this leaky mind of mine....

And yes, Becca... I added exercise just last week. A humble beginners goal of swimming 20 minutes, 3 times per week... Just like the book tells me to do...

We are all in this together. I'm hoping to lose but the slower the better they say! Just like the gaining, it didn't happen over night......Thank God we have each other!

I hit 40 this year so now I added to my challenges, like I didn't have enough?!

                Don't Despair

One of the things I noticed was that somehow my body related a full stomach to drinking a lot of alcohol. When I was drinking I would not eat in fear that it would ruin a good drunk. That allowed me to over stuff my stomach with alcohol which I believe made me connect the full stomach to craving alcohol. I learned to alleviate this feeling by drinking copious amounts of lemonade or water.

The food craving will not last long and the exercise along without the high calorie intake will make a difference. After the initial weight loss, maintaining it a personal battle. I think you will be surprised at the weight loss after 3-6 months.

                Good luck and God Bless

                  Hi Bear,
Always a pleasure to have you drop in on us. I agree with your comments on alcohol filling the hunger signals. I could usually go an entire day without food when drinking, then eat about 9:30. Now that I've been sober a while, I eat 3 squares a day and am gaining weight. Not my preferance but I enjoy the clear head much more than weighing 120 lbs.

                  Blessings,
                  Lori
