BUT, I'm just wondering if the organic kind, fried in expensive not-so-awful oil are so bad. I seem to recall reading that potato chips have carcinogens... something to do with the process of making them, which might apply to the "good" organic kind, too...? Anyone know anything about this?

Crisps, aka Potato chips
They are about the only junk food I like or crave. And, of course, I know they are not good for you. In fact I do believe they are downright bad for you.

I have no idea about the carcinogen thing. Sorry.
When I have a craving it is for something salty and greasy. I don't have much of a sweet tooth, if at all.
If you find out about any 'good' chip out there, please let me know! I have tried the 'baked' ones. Might as well chew on a sock and save the calories.

Fat is fat, organic or not. Some may not be as bad as others but intake should be limited.
But, if you keep drinking you will be die early for sure. Chips can't be as bad as AL. There are some lower fat ones that are tasty. Abstain from AL, mod the chips and be happy.

Tims!
There are chips that don't use any hydrogenated or transfats and use better oils like canola or safflower. Tims makes ones with less salt that are fabulous. If weight was not a big issue, I would eat them often. Not sure potato chips really count as holistic healing but who knows?

I love Walker's Cheese and Onion crisps but then I also adore chips, fish and mushy peas from the chippy (on't corner of th' road) or meat n tater pie, chips, and curry sauce - nectar from the gods and don't worry if it's cooked in old oil makes it taste better. I gave up fags and booze can't give up food too !!!?We are one another's angels?

I definitely agree with the Florida Boy Attitude. And what a good idea with the snack packs (though much more expensive).
I also love Fritos, though I can't get them here. I've convinced myself they are healthier than potato chips, but I wonder if that's true? (I don't think they are deep fried, are they?)
And as long as we are on the subject, how about popcorn? Is that good for you? Or much less bad for you? (And I'm not talking about the air-popped stuff. Like Accountable, I'd just as soon chew on a sock.)Your time is limited, so don't waste it living someone else's life... And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. Yes, they are deep fried.
