    Calling all supplement experts

    LVT,

I think the 'right' combo of supplements varies with the individual. Try the basic ones RJ suggests and see how it goes for you.

Foridaboy--it's about time you chimed in---but that's it???? Usually you have much more to say!:H

I was just so impressed with the way the GABA made me feel--I'm anxious to experiment a little with the combinations. I'm not one to take a ton of pills though--natural or not!

      Take care!

LVT25 (what does that name mean?),

Sometimes combinations are much more effective than any of the ingredients alone. That's why MWO has made "True Calm"-- it combines complementary ingredients that work in synergy. The only problem with "True Calm" is that it doesn't have enough GABA in it, which is why I supplement it with one GABA capsule (also from MWO-- they are 750mg, a perfect complimentary strength). The valerian can also be supplemented in the evening, to create an even more relaxing effect (I usually leave out the GABA in the evening, as I heard that too much can have the opposite effect--i.e. excitability.)

Anyway, this is just what I have found works best for me as a result of research and personal experimentation. You can check the ingredients in "True Calm" and make up your own "recipe".

Beatle--yes, I appreciate your advice. I have ordered the "True Calm" and the 5HTP from here. I also started taking EPO twice daily. I'm going to try the L-tryptophan and the Omega 3-6-9 also. I'll keep taking my B+ and multi or start the Allone again. I'm just not one to take a ton of "stuff". Most of my problem is PMS I think--but the GABA did help me. I felt more "loving." I wish now I would have ordered the GABA from here at the same time as I ordered the other stuff, but if I need to add it, I can get it later.

          Thanks again!!:h

Thanks for the code-breaker... which also explains the atavar, I guess...

One note: You do know that L-tryptophan and 5-HTP are basically the same thing, right? (5-HTP is a slightly broken down form of the L-Tryp.) See separate thread on this forum-

Some people (like meditation mama) prefer the L-tryp, and say it works better. However, the two should be the same in the end. The advantage with the 5-HTP is that you don't have to take it on an empty stomach (though it is better to wait a little after a big meal), whereas you really need to take the L-tryp separately from food, but WITH some fruit juice.

Beatle--well I do now! My stuff from MWO arrived today. I can't remember now what my reasoning was, but I think I decided to try the 5-HTP and then in a rush I ordered the other also. I guess I'll get to decide which I like better. I hope it works!
A new source of confusion is the Omega 3-6-9. It has EPO (300mg). As a matter of fact--the entire label is different from the one advertised here. Oh well, I guess that doesn't matter to me.
THANK YOU SO MUCH for keeping me in line!! I do appreciate all the advice so much!

On the EPO, what you are really after is the GLA. (I think we could make a song out of this, hey?)

Anyway, the GLA is that good oil stuff you can get in many different places and you need a lot, so don't worry about doubling up on it. Borage oil is supposed to be the most concentrated form, but it hasn't been studied as much as Evening Primrose Oil, which is tried and true. Just take a lot of it and you will be happy. It makes your skin, nails and hair strong and shiny, and helps with PMS, and on top of that, it is good for the liver.

I think the recommended dose is around 1,500-3,000 mg of the EPA per day (or 150-300mg of the GLA).

I'll keep you in line as long as you keep taking care of those critters. Wish I had your job!

ditto on what Beatle says on the the GLA...dont' worry about over dosing. in fact most of the supplements really contain only a tiny amount of it.

some folks have asked for advice on a daily supplement plan but honestly it's a very complicated issue. certain subjective things must be taken into consideration, like:

-what is your budget. (it can get expensive)
-what is your stage of recovery (what to take for withdrawals will be quite different than for a daily maintenance dose) etc etc.

arg. too late to think clearly. be back later.

Thanks guys. I agree Det--it can be a confusing subject--and one size does NOT fit all. Takes time and research to find what works I think. What I'm dealing with now, is how to be "mellow" (not bitchy) yet not sleepy!!
I really appreciate everyone's input in this subject!!
