challenge! which supp is making me feel groggy/foggy?

Nurse, we've all been there done that. Wip is so right on about your brain throwing a tantrum. We must always remember that we are not our brain, our thoughts. Until you get the supps, maybe try cutting back some? It would be helpful for when you go all AF.

Wip - so glad you are feeling better!

I am only taking 3mg, and I thought that was alot. I will try doubling it tonight. It is odd because it used to work for me when I worked the Night shift and I had to sleep in the day time.
Are you approaching / in / through with menopause? I was having horrid sleep problems and low progesterone was the problem. Now that I'm getting my hormones back in balance (bio-identicals) my sleep has dramatically improved. What a difference!!

I originally thought my problems with sleep right when I would stop AL were AL withdrawl related. I think it was the other way around - AL was my "sleeping pill" covering up the other problems for the last few years.

Don't know if this helps but it's something else you might investigate..

MOW, great advice and information. Thanks. WIP, thank you for the sleep wishes. I hope yours regulates as well. I may try the 5htp. My daughter has some Valerian root, so I may try that first. NID-I knew that I could not stop drinking without having a benzo. My anxiety and tremors were horrific, and I feared having a seizure. Please get the help that u need, and know that we are here for you. I did taper off of the Ativan and am having sleep probs, but I can deal with that. I am just so happy not to feel like Crap every damn day. Doggygirl, hmmm.....good point. I am menopausal, have not had progesterone levels checked. Of course, my doc won't work me up for anything until I get some health insurance, which hopefully, will be soon.

Well, I must admit firstly that I am not the best person to be answering you, nurse, except that I have detoxed many times. It depends on your state of alcoholism. If you have been drinking heavily for many years, it can be dangerous to detox without medical supervision. I suppose you are aware of that. There are ways of doing it yourself, but you need to know what you are getting into. The first time I decided to go "cold turkey", I had a seizure whilst driving on the autoway (3 days after stopping drinking). I was fortunate to have survived.

Sorry, have not been following this thread so closely, and now I see that I am a bit passe.

SLEEP-- however. Now, you could look it up, but I'll say it one more time.... YOU DO NOT HAVE TO GO SLEEPLESS WITHOUT ALCOHOL!

Melatonin, Valerian, lithium orotate, 5-HTP/tryptophan, magnesium, and yes, Benedryl-- all these things work! And you can take them all together.

If you are willing to go with a drug (a real drug) you can take zolpidem (Ambien in the US).

These will help you sleep. Believe me. I've been through it. Many a time.
