    acupuncture?

:dunno: Has anyone tried acupuncture to curb alcohol cravings?

I am going to my first ever acupuncture session tomorrow (Friday) for my migraines. Alcohol addiction is listed in the brochure as one thing she treats. I am going to ask her about that and see she can work that in at the same time or if I would need a separate session.

I read something else in the past week that acupuncture can be very beneficial for the alcohol cravings.

I was just wondering if any one else has any experience with this?

IAD you have a wonderful sense of humor! You make me laugh daily!

You make me think of the line from a Matchbox 20 song: "I'm not crazy I'm just a little unwell"!!!
And I mean that in a loving way cause I relate. :h

            acupuncture?

So I went to my first acupuncture session yesterday. I was there primarily for my migraines, and neck / shoulder pain which often seems to coincide with the migraines. Interestingly when I got the kudzu from MWO I noticed on the bottle that it says it can also be beneficial for neck and shoulder pain. I have read other web sites since I was introduced to kudzu from MWO and have learned that kudzu is also considered a preventative treatment for migraine.

I was open with the acupuncturist about the alcohol cravings as well. She seemed to downplay the AL a bit and suggested the best approach was to treat all my symptoms as a whole. She indicated that the kudzu was a good option for me for all my major complaints.

I don't really know what to expect regarding results from my experience. But the biggest immediate result was that I slept like a baby last night! I was awake throughout the night for several nights prior. I've read many other posts here where sleep is a major issue for all of us in the beginning of AL free (or significant reductions). I can't take melatonin because I also take an antidepressant. So for me this is a huge find!

I will report any other findings I may have over the next days/weeks.

                  acupuncture?

Peri, keep us posted as I too am very curious about acupuncture. I know a few people who swear by it for head ache problems.
Have you tried feverfew? My hubby took it years ago for migrines, it seemed to work for him.

                    acupuncture?

I did try feverfew several years ago with no results. Thanks for your suggestion, I know it does work for some. I'm e-mailing my Dr today about topamax. It is often prescribed for migraine. Could be a good choice for me for dual reasons.
I have been sleeping much better since the acupuncture and have had huge relief in my neck and shoulder.

                      acupuncture?

Sounds interesting, maybe worth a try for me, I have shoulder problems relating to those muscles; that in turn mess up my neck and head. Amazing how one thing out of whack, throws off every thing else. I do know of a couple that had acu-p to stop smoking, they are 4 years out and still not smoking. Good luck with the headaches.

                        acupuncture?

You got me thinking now. You know if every time I get a craving, I stab my leg with an ice pick, I'll probably forget about the craving. Right? Just a thought.

Good luck with the Acu. Keep us posted on how it works.

Nope. You'll just get addicted to stabbing yourself in the leg with an ice pick.... and you'll still want to drink!!!
