    Tapping In

There has been some discussion here about a method of therapy for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder called EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing). I didn't mean to offend anyone about how established this is in the medical community, but I did want to again mention that it has been developed into a simple technique for other problems (like anxiety), that involves tapping on two sides of your body (this is a bilateral stimulation technique).

I have been learning this technique using a book and the help of a therapist-- it is very easy, takes just a little concentration and practice. It can be used anywhere to relax you immediately (when you feel a need for a drink, for example). It has surprising results-- sometimes similar to taking a drink when you are stressed.

For me, it is working extremely well. I have never experienced this kind of PHYSICAL result from something non-alcoholic or non-narcotic. It is a mix of the mental and the physical.

The book I am using is called Tapping In by Laurel Parnell. If anyone is interested, I can offer further information.

        Thanks Beatle!
I'll go look for this book as I had some very good results with EFT technique (also tapping) but did not stick with it as I can't pay for consulations and did not manage to learn myself.

Well, the book I mentioned is written for the layperson. It is very easy to follow the instructions. I think it was helpful to have a therapist lead me through it the first time, but I could have done it without the therapist.

However, I have some problems with this:

-If I am very tired, it is difficult to get into it.

            - I can hardly come up with any happy, calm, peaceful memories to use (I guess that says a little about me)

            - It seems to work better some times, and not so well others (a bit unpredictable)

BUT, it has been very helpful and is definitely worth a try... it is easy and free (almost).

Dear Beatle,I have had the same experience.Sometimes it works Great and other times less well.It certainly never hurts the situation. My Brother followed along with the U tube tapping on anxiety just before leaving to get Chemo and upon returning home from it , last thursday. He said it did wonders, so that's a good testimonial .

yes, and you know what, I used it when I went to the dentist, and it helped a lot as I sat there in pain and discomfort. And I have used it for other situations, non-alcohol related, and it is very good. Definitely calms you down and distracts you from that urge.
