    Article on alcohol and bone density...

    It looks from this article like the findings are VERY preliminary. But there might be connections between alcohol and genetic changes that negatively affect bone density. For many of us at the age where concerns over osteoperosis are looming, it sounds like this is another good reason supporting the choice not to drink.

    I was diagnosed with osteonecrosis. This is a serious bone condition most commonly seen in people who have been using steroids for awhile (usually for pain control). But it is also seen, not infrequently I think, in people with alcohol abuse, and also in people who have no known cause. Orthopedic specialists always ask about alcohol intake. I was never was never a daily drinker, more of a binge drinker. But alcohol can and does damage your bones.
    My life is better without alcohol, since 9/1/12. My sobriety tool is the list at permalink 236 on the toolbox thread under monthly abstinance.
