    anyone know anything about modafinil?

    I read in MWO book it can help counteract the side effect of topa of what I would describe as brain fog which I'm feeling. I'm willing to try it but don't know what dosage. I was planning to obtain it online as my GP is unsympathetic to my plan so I wasn't planning to try to get it on prescription and I can't find any info on what is a safe dosage to start with. I can't find any info on using it off script . I know this isn't a medical website but if anyone can point me in the direction of resources I would be grateful (or know of any other helpful hints for dealing with this particular side effect of topa)

    Sorry, I can't help you with your specific questions, but it might be better to look at the meds forum (called: Topomax, campral, naltrexone...") and if you don't find the info you need there, probably post there and you might get an answer. There is a lot of discussion there about Topa and its side-effects.

    Also, you can send a PM to RJ asking your question.

    I'm sorry your GP is uncooperative, but that is not unusual. Good for you for taking matters into your own hands.

    There is lots of help to get here on MWO, both of the concrete, technical nature, as well as support from others in similar circumstances.

    I'm sure if you persevere, you will get the info you need here.

      ALOT of docts are asses actaully when it comes to this issues. Do not let it discourage you. Find another one or do yor own research. I am not really sure what the issue is...would they rather us slow kill ourselves. We are seeking help. If topa helps..take it. There are suppotive medical physicians. Sorry you didnt find one.

        Yeh, it's true, there are also supportive GPs, and open-minded ones, who don't know shite about alcohism, but are interested in learning. (I've taught my GP a lot, and she appreciates it!)

        Still, there are also plenty of GPs with blinders on who only want to follow old and outdated ways of dealing with alcohol problems. I hope you prevail, Marmite. (You can't afford not to!).

          Thanks for the advice? How do you PM?
          It's so ironic - you get up the courage to face your problem and face your doctor and you actually just face a wall. But I won't let it beat me - I've got too much at stake. And I do finally feel like I'm getting somewhere after years of not knowing how to do this or where to turn. AA's just not anonymous enough for me and this feels like a forgiving way to go about fighting my demons. Anyway, thanks again for the advice.

            good on you, Marm! To PM, you just click on Private Messages, which should be on the right-hand side above the threads, almost to the top. Then you go under Private Messages on the left-hand side, and hit New Message. Then you type in the name or names of who you want to send the message to, write the message, and send. You can try me first, if you want =)
