    Health changes since going AF

Haven't been here in a while, wish I had though. Anyway - am here now. I am on day 1, yesterday was pretty meager on the al intake, so today was quite civilized, but tomorrow should be great, it is late here and I am going to bed very soon, al free for the first time in a long time. I expect to be a bit sweaty and I know I will find it hard to go to sleep, but I also know (because I remember) how good it will feel tomorrow so I am going. I remember how well I looked last time I kicked this stupid self distruct habit and quite honestly am looking forward to feeling well. I will keep reading and re-reading the benefits and hopefully will be able to add some as well.

      Hi

WhiteRabbit;627385 wrote: Wow! This is VERY encouraging reading how much better everyone is doing since getting off the sauce! I'm really looking forward to feeling 'human' again. Hopefully in the not-too-distant future, I'll be able to post about how much better my health has gotten, as it's pretty awful right now. Congrats to all of you that have kicked this beast and are now healthier and happier!

I am not missing the feeling of complete despair in the morning.
I am not missing the fact that nothing has any taste to it in the morning.
I am not missing the anxious feeling you get as discussions come floating back over the course of the day.
I am not missing the extra trips to the bin in the vain hope of disguising how much has been consumed.
I am not missing the fact that I generally can not find my eyes to make up on them, although even without al that can be a job - but at least today they weren't bloodshot, and I didn't spend time wondering if they had a slight tinge of yellow to them.
I am not missing having a sore tongue - yep - sore - I guess through huge dehydration.
I am not missing - hey and this is a real bonus - about 15 quid and that's just in 3 days.

            Powerful post!

There has been a tiny voice in the back of my head saying, "go ahead, have a glass of wine tonight...you deserve it!" and it has completely gone away after reading this thread. One glass always turns into more... What I really deserve is the great feeling of waking up after an AF day. So glad I will skip the drink and will enjoy a sound sleep and happy morning thanks to the encouragement I found here tonight. Thank you!:h

The improvements I've noticed at Day 7:
              More energy
              My mouth isn't dry anymore
Not feeling 'blah' in the morning
              No more morning headaches
A huge improvement in memory and concentration
Not waking in the middle of the night sweating bullets!
A lot more money in my wallet!
              YAY!!
This thread is the best and so encouraging. As time goes on, I'll post more health changes.
When you come to the end of your rope, tie a knot and hang on.

                Health changes since going AF

                Hello!

This is Day 4 AF!!! I am sick with flu-but I can start to add a few personal pluses of being AF:

Following a conversation through without getting easily distracted
Actually 'feeling' how my poor, dear body is fighting the good fight against this virus and whatever other pain/hurt I've caused it myself!
Finding my poetry again-a small piece of my former self'
A desire to plan and have goals that don't revolve around the next drink
Finally being honest with myself and forgiving myself for it

I know it is early days and that things can change, but reading this thread certainly puts things in perspective!

Hooray for Day 4!!!! *dances a lively jig*

                      -improved memory
-some weight loss, not as much as you'd think considering how many AL calories I was throwing back! I do think I've substituted sweets
-go to bed earlier which enables me to get up earlier which gives me time to exercise in the morning which gives me more energy!
-giving up guilt and self-loathing lets my personality shine

                        Bumping this for newbies
Ask yourselves, would you rather be a non drinker with an occasional desire to drink or a drinker with a constant desire to stop doing it?

NO MORE HEARTBURN! This used to be a killer, hurt so much and burned right down into my stomach. When it got really bad I had to switch from wine to gin! Yeah that used to really help

i too used to regularly get pins and needles in my hands, NEVER get it now.

My hair is in better condition, it used to be much dryer as it like the rest of me was dehydrated.

                              No more bloated puffiness!
