akgirl, garlic repels a lot of other beasts, too, lol. Like deer, for example. And rabbits, too.

scrubbly, it depends on what kind of beast he is.

Actually he loves garlic. And other pungent smells.

He told me once at the farmers market in the fall that if I could find some perfume that smelled like roasting hot chiles that he would rather smell that on me than Chanel Number Five. :H :H :H :H

He is a KEEPER for sure!

Sammys, glad to hear it. it's a jungle out there more than ever.

Scrubbly, I concur with your hubby! the aroma of dry roasting 'chile de arbol' is one of the most heavenly sensory joys.

Garlic! may the breath be with you

Garlic scapes (green tops) are now available in Northeast US markets. My husband just made a pasta sauce using about a pound of scapes, a few Roma tomatoes, mushrooms, a little tomato paste. The scapes have a texture similar to green beans. Just saute it together, mix in cooked pasta, sprinkle with grated Italian cheese and serve. Yum!

Garlic! may the breath be with you

I just ordered some garlic from a seedsman for planting out in October. My dad grows his own and the difference from shop-bought is astounding. And it's so easy to grow.
