    30 Sugar Free Day's

Hi DeeBee, and good for you! It sounds like you're off to a good start. I'm starting my "taper" today, along with you. Giving up two cups of coffee/day while giving up sugar all at one time was too much for me.

-This week, I'll go from two cups of coffee/day down to one.
-Next week, I'll either eliminate the other morning coffee or the bedtime cocoa.
-The following week, no coffee or cocoa at all.

That said, I'm trying to follow the rest of the diet otherwise.

BTW, my avatar glasses are a homage to you, our fearless leader and a reminder to myself about the SF plunge. Do you think they fit?

Great that you can join us Amelia -- I think we can all do with all the support we can get.

LOL Lilbit!! I just noticed your specs -- very sexy.

Your tapering schedule looks solid and very do-able. I have already cut back on my caffine so felt that I was ready to quit my coffee from this morning. I might've jumped the gun
I have had two cups of green tea, with nothing added and I don't feel like they've hit the spot.

I'm off to the shops AGAIN to hunt down some tofu for din-dins.

        Morning SF buddies!!

It's a really crappy day on this side of the world which is perfect weather for a veg soup so dinner is sorted. I think breakfast can be an omlette (sp?) again and lunch I'm going to make up a batch of hummus and then snack on it with some veg.
BTW how do you spell "omlette"? Doesn't matter which was I spell the damn spell check doesn't agree!!!!

I discovered a new sort of drink/snack yesterday. I've often heard of a virgin mary but had never tried one, they are fantastic!! I had one at 5pm yesterday which was just at the right time to help keep the sugar levels up before dinner at 7.
I added a pinch of celery seeds, a pinch of herbal salt, a pinch of pepper and a dash of tobacco sauce. I was going to do the whole celery stick thing but the shop bought one is just too stringy.... can't wait for my celery in the veg garden to be ready.

Yesterday I was baby-sitting a friends two little girls whilst they went to watch the rugby (YAY SA kicked butt) and my sister came up to visit so between playing, cooking, cleaning, bathing, tidying up there was not time to even think of AL with was a good thing. Off to fill in the drink tracker.

So, How is everyone else coping??

Hi again, Deebs. Yesterday wasn't so hard. Just like when I first went AF, I kept really busy and the day flew by. I am such a wimp about the coffee thing, though. 'Broke it down to 1/2 cup first thing in the morning, and then another 1/2 cup after my morning workout. (At least, it's organic, half-decaf.) Trying to decide which of those half cups to give up next week will be the biggie!

What creatures of habit we are! Yesterday, I was getting ready to make my usual breakfast (slice of whole wheat toast with the center hollowed out and an egg inserted - cooked with an olive oil spray) and I realized, "Holy crap! This is not on the plan!" So, I just had the egg and it was fine.

This regimen seems very much like the one our cavewomen ancestors probably followed: forage for veggies and fruits, and then have a little meat when you can get it. There probably wasn't a Godiva shop anywhere nearby.

I found myself in a similar position yesterday when I dug out the mayo to add to my tuna and the hubby read that there's sugar in it -- damn him for noticing :H
I made the family a full english breakfast this morning but had one of those humungous 'shooms as my toast and extra portion of brinjal - was very yummy.

It is more habit than anything isnt it?
When I make sure I eat well, I dont usually miss the rubbish, but as soon as I start back on it, it seems necessary all of a sudden.....

                    Morning all...

My plan for this week is to cut out all the sugar and the white bread, cut back on my coffee, and dig out my vegetable juicer - that thing is a GODSEND for getting in about 15 servings or so of veggies a day no problem?and it can make a great base for veggie soup too. (Thanks Deebs for the idea to get some veggie soup going too - but gazpacho maybe on this side of the world since it?s hot this time of year).

Next week I will attempt to cut out all the coffee and the grains altogether. Ugh, but as Starty said it is more habits than real yearning for the stuff once you get going.

I?m off to Germany for 10 days on Sept 19th and would love to have lost 10 pounds or so before leaving!!

Deebs - Tofu is actually pretty good - just depends how you prep it and what you eat it with. It goes well with lots of things. I?ve even thrown it in with fruit smoothies?you can?t taste it a bit and it boosts up the protein, soy benefits, etc.

Starty - you are already ahead of the curve on the coffee front, good on you!! That one is a taper plan for me this week, it is going to be as tough as the white bread I think.

LilBit - love the specs, but they aren?t NEARLY the shock that Deebs were, I nearly had people at work calling the men in the white coats the other day - I was hysterical all alone in my office when I saw those!!!

Deebs, what the hell is brinjal?

Scrubbs, it sounds like we're on a similar taper plan. Won't we be the b_tches from h_ll next week without our coffee, though? :H I'm trying to remember that my body knows how to wake up all by itself without that morning cup. Silly me.

The specs are just a small, subtle reminder to myself to stay on Deebs' SF wagon. I, too, nearly wet my CT when I saw hers! But I'm really wondering, "Do they make my _ss look big?"

                            Morning all,

And how are we feeling this fine and bright?
I personnally slept like a tormented pup and ended up with a huge knot in my hair from all my tossing and turning last night -- don't know what that was all about? Possibly chasing a piece of chocolate in my dreams LOL!!

I'm loving your avatar Starts, it's so YOU:-)

Cutting out sugar AND grains AND fruit I find is stressfull. I think once I've learnt what to eat and what not then it will be easier. Like Dr O says "any step toward reducing your sugar intake is good".

Here is a link to a website with some nice low GI and sugar-free recipes.

                              Morning gang (well, aftenoon, really)

Sorry you had a bad night, Deebs, but I had to laugh at the potential chocolate dream. This morning I woke up from a dream I remembered clear as day that I was chasing after pizza and muffins!! I haven't even had pizza in months! Where did that come from??!

The weekend meals went okay as I'd cooked things in advance. What I do find challenging is being prepared when you do something out of the ordinary. I was in the centre of town for hours yesterday, and hadn't really thought to take fruit. I did have granola bars in my purse but they contain sugar. So I was absolutely starving when I got home.

Now I need to backtrack or rewind to an essential question: why are you all talking about coffee??!! This is very alarming!!! I reread the doc's little leaflet and found no mention of a coffee ban. I am (finally) down to one cup (no sugar) a day, but that cup is precious! I won't consider any further tapering without EXCELLENT reason...

Thanks for the recipe link. I'm waiting for a delivery so will go google that now.

                                Hello All,

I know I posted earlier voicing my support of cutting out sugar.....
I am newly AF again and yes eating more sugar (was allowing myself as I was AF).
However...yesterday I really overdid it. We are talking 2 pieces of white bread for breakfast (with copious coffee). Out for a walk in town and a piece of carrot cake and a coffee,...Sunday Lunch followed by melon, yoghurt and lashings of honey, followed about 2 hours later by a steamed chocolate pudding!! I mean this is soooo out of character it is not funny. The point of me posting this is that today I have been thinking about drinking NON STOP! I really do believe it is because I overdid the sugar yesterday.
So. Am going to download the 30 days to be sugar free info and begin.
I really do feel that cutting out sugar will help me remain AF.
