    30 Sugar Free Day's

Pamina I am the total opposite to you, when the painter comes to town I eat EVERY thing that's not glued down -- not a pretty site I know.
Macca powder is really good for PMS-ing if anyone battles.
It is a herb which is mostly used to help with infertility, erectile dysfunction as well as increasing sexual activity and increasing sexual desire, it has far more to offer – and interesting research has looked at the effect that Maca has on menopausal women and reducing high blood pressure.

A little bit of useless info for you today:-)

I must just say that this morning I woke up about 20 minutes before the alarm was due to go off and I leapt out of bed a bundle of energy which is SO not like me in winter. I'm impressed with myself actually.

Wow, that's GREAT, Deebs! You're such a good example for us to follow. I'm still hanging in there with my taper and hope I can get to full SF like you in a few weeks.

It's funny how we put all this junk into our body (sugar, caffeine, Goldfish crackers) to give it energy, when the body naturally has an adequate supply. I was raised on McDonald's, Easter candy, and Ruffles potato chips. I think they had no idea during the 70's-90's decades of how harmful all this stuff is. 'Turned me into Edgar from MIB:

I am up the hill a bit so it's at least 5 degrees cooler:H

I went to book club last night armed with my pomegranate juice and soda water -- worked a treat and it didn't even bother me that two of the girls were drinking wine.
My friend, who knows about my SF quest (but also thinks I'm nuts) made a wonderful mellanzani (sp?) in my honour and a fruit salad for desert which was really yummy.
So onward and upward we go.

              How's everyone else finding it?

I just had a double altte and a choc brownie for breakfast. Let me tackle AL & nicotine first, then the sugar! Interesting thread nonetheless!

It has been surprisinly easy Oney.
The worst part is walking past all the goodies in the shops -- I swear I developed blinkers to protect myself.

I actually whimpered while walking past a Starbuck's yesterday. My downfall is coffee with dark choccy. But I walked on.

'Still hanging in there on my sugar taper and doing LOADS better than last week. I'm eating an inordinate amount of lean protein, though. Between practicing my sport and gym workouts, I exercise about 2+ hours per day, and the veggies and fruits don't satisfy my ravenous hunger. Many times, I'll snarf down a small handful of nuts to keep the stomach growlies at bay, but they're SO high in fat (I know, it's the good fat, but it can still turn you into a blobfish). I used to eat brown rice with chicken and veggies, or a whole wheat/protein combo for that long, slow calorie burn. Any thoughts, Deebs, on what's particularly sustaining and satisfying from our list?

Another thought hit me (ow). Next week is PMS week. Back when I was doing a nightly AL glug, I used to have a much higher tolerance for the AL during that week. Or so I thought. The net was, I could drink about twice as much and not feel drunk at all, and then of course, I would immediately pass out. It seemed like I was less hungover during that week, even with the increased intake. I wonder what the correlation is to the sugar, and if that explains why I crave choccy and Doritos when Aunt Flo is about to visit?

Lil, I think with the amount of exercise you are doing you definitely NEED extra energy. Damn but you are putting me to shame!!! What sport are you doing?
                        (Aunty Flo LOL!!)

Well, I looked it up for you and here are some suggestions...

                        Oats.
                        It's one of the superfoods.
Have it with 2T of flaxseeds (which you MUST grind), 2 T of wheatgerm and a handfull of blueberries.
In summer you can do the same but swop the oats for yoghurt.

Another thing is Quinoa -- have you tried it? Good for anytime of the day as you can either have it as a porrige or added to a salad or soup -- it's very versatile and actually tastes lovely. I like it.

Or baby potatoes. Apparently baby potatoes are good but only 3 baby potatoes steamed with their skin and eaten before 3pm. (this can get quite confusing can't it LOL)

Have you heard about Cacao? Super Food Fruity Cacao | Raw Cacao | Elements for Life
It's Whole Raw Chocolate Beans with the dried fruit pulp still on. This bean is bright purple inside and full of the natural life-force energy the way Nature intended it.
I've seen it at the health shop but haven't bought it yet because it costs over 100 bucks!! But I thought maybe after my 30 days I might treat myself and buy a pack -- it should last me a long time.

Thanks so much Deebs! I love oats, and will definitely try them, as well as the quinoa. The raw Cacao beans sound yummy. Will do the same as you -- maybe have some as a reward at the end of this stint, but I wouldn't count on a pack to last me a long time.

Nothing too exciting to report from my side.
I'm still coping surprisingly well without sugar in my life.
I've also got quite experimental in the kitchen. I made my own hummus which turned out vile, the baba ganush (sp?) was okay, nothing wow and I accidentally made myself a frozen yoghurt with mixed berries and yoghurt -- yummy:-)

This weekend will prove a bit of a challenge as there are functions, braais, dinners etc to attend all weekend. It's a public holiday on Monday to celebrate Woman's Day so I'll need to plan carefully and make sure I have plenty of soda water and tea to take with me.

Oh, I nearly forgot -- I also make gingerale -- it's kick ass!!!

Hope you all have a great SUGAR free weekend.

Oh boy! It's been a challenging few days. Yesterday I tackled a yucky task I'd been putting off and felt like I need a reward. I had a granola bar, which wasn't too bad. But today.... I got some work news out of the blue. My name is not on on a list of people working on project 1 from October, though I've worked on it for a while. I don't know what that means yet, and I hadn't been notified of any change. I could work on project 2, which is more challenging if unfamiliar, and as the day wore on it actually felt quite intriguing. But I HATE uncertainty. And I HATE not being consulted. Definitely a time for drinking in the good old days. Instead I developed a fixation about carrot cake. I haven't had any cake in eons. I tried to look for alternatives, but in the end there just weren't any. You do understand, don't you??!!! And the carrot was healthy...

Pamina, you totally have my sympathies. And you're right! Carrots are healthy. At least the carrot cake won't give you a nasty hangover. I couldn't have imagined a while ago when I was first kicking the AL habit that I'd even be trying to go SF now. Kudos to you and to all of us for giving it a go.

                                :goodjob:

I really need to get experimental like you, DeeBee, and then adopt some good recipes that I can live with on a daily basis. Giving up the grains has been the hardest part so far -- much harder than one of my two daily coffees. The things you mentioned (oats, quinoa) are on my next grocery list, but now I'm trying to eat through what I have in the house and its b-o-r-i-n-g. I'm experimenting with spices next.
