    30 Sugar Free Day's

I too hate uncertanty when it revolves my job -- causes all sorts of anxiety!!
Good for you for reaching for a slice of yummy carrot cake instead of AL -- I think that deserves a huge WELL DONE!! I love carrot cake with a cream cheese icing on top and lots of walnuts. Walnust are one of the 14 superfoods so your cake did have lots of goodness in it:-)

Lil, I am in two minds about the grains.
I believe that it is essential to our diet to have WHOLE GRAINS and eliminate refined grains.
I have a list of whole-grains in one of my books which I'll dig up and post for you as soon as I get a chance.

I woke up this morning with a vague headache which I haven't been able to shake so I think lots of water with lemon are in order for me today. We went to the farmers market this morning and stocked up with lots of lovely fresh veg and farm cream so I'm all set for next weeks meals.

Lil, one other thing you must experiment with is herbs -- they add so much flavour to food that often you don't need the extra spices. It's even better if you grow you own, and so much more rewarding.

Hi everybody! DeeBee, you're so right about the herbs. I read that you shouldn't fertilize herbs (even organically - I used to use organic fish emulsion - pew) as it lessens their pungency.

Thank you for the suggestions. You'd laugh at the thought of me growing herbs if you knew what a black thumb I am! The only thing I seem capable of growing is my butt during the holidays. :H Luckily, there are farmers' markets here several days a week with organic produce, and a Whole Foods nearby so I'll rely on the experts. 'Headed to the FM this morning. It's a beautiful walk past a marina full of sailboats to get there.

Deebs, I agree about the whole grains. I hope that spelt is on the "good" list.

        One week today!

I got a sample box of Fiber One cereal with the newspaper. 1 cup. 11g fiber, 13g sugar.

From the ingredient list: sugar, sugar, corn syrup, brown sugar, sugar, high fructiose corn syrup, honey, brown sugar, molasses, sugar, brown sugar syrup, malt syrup, honey,

"Lightly sweetened wheat & bran flakes with plump raisins & clusters"

          "clusters" cluster's of what, sugar?

LOL Greenie!! It really is shocking the amount of sugar the manufacturers are using in the products.

BTW I use a teaspoon of kelp powder diluted in one litre of water to boost my herbs and veggies -- and another product which is seawead extract (smells vile tho). I try and practice companion planting as much as possible to eliminate the need for any nunu intervention:-)

Well, I am 12 days into this (nearly half way) and I'm pleased to say that not a chocolate nor cup of coffee has passed these lips. I did go through 3 days of absolute and utter exhaustion this weekend gone but that could've been due to a number of reasons. On the whole I've definetly got more energy, I'm a lot less bloated and I'm sleeping like a baby.

I made a broccoli salad last night and I'm blown away by how un-broccoli it tasted like LOL!! I never knew it tasted great raw -- better than cooked if you ask me.
I cut up the florets till they were fairly small, sliced a red onion and added goats feta. Poured over a blue cheese dressing and a handful of cashew nuts and even the family ate it without complaining.

Hi, Deebs! Good to see you.

I'm afraid I've had a double latte and choc brownie for brekkie two days in a row... I know, I'm a BAD tigger...

I make a broccoli and cauliflower salad with as little mayo as possible and a bit of ranch dressing. It also has a couple green onions (scallions) in it.

                  Family loves it.

I am doing well with the no sugar. But have been working hard on eating as many raw foods as possible.

I know fruit is probably a no no but I do eat fruit for breakfast because that is my best option at the hotel. I try to stick with melons and a few strawberries.

At lunch I am eating a salad.

At dinner, the hotel has a hummus appetizer. It is delicious. They serve it with pita wedges (I eat those very last if I am still hungry) and calamati olives, celery and carrots. I also ate some shrimp cocktail.

I hope all this fits into the no sugar diet. It is the best I can do with my limited menu choices on the road.

Oh, give up on the coffee. I need it to get through the day on top of the Baclofen and I simply do not want to give it up because I love my coffee. I have reduced it to half by choosing decaf every other cup.

Anyhow, I feel good and am looking forward to making this change to my eating patterns permanent.

                    Well done Cinders!!
I am due to travel again next month and know that it will take very careful meal planning on my part. I usually stay at the same B&B each time and they only serve a fry up for breakfast. Dinner is a huge mission for me as it involves trekking around town trying to find somewhere healthy to eat.

                        30 Sugar Free Day's

                        Hello All,
Just popping in to see how you are all doing!! Yes, I am still lurking (like Tigger ), because I really do think it's time I addressed my sugar intake.
I have allowed it to increase lately and as I have said before on this thread, I do think it is quite a dangerous path to go down being so newly sober.

I did read in one of my 'your path to sobriety' books, that sugar acts in a similar way to alcohol on your body and brain. I know though that my interest in sugary foods while I was drinking copious amounts of (sugar filled) booze, was minimal, but now I am the one buying the chocolate bars and making desserts. I used to frown on my partner doing this!!

You are all doing really well!!

Ameila, I'm with you on the "replacing AL with sweets" thing. The sugar cravings were really intense the first few weeks without AL. I was snarfing down a bar of dark chocolate every other day. Fortunately, they subsided but I had to work at it.

Re: our 30-day SF stint, I had hoped to taper even more this week (reduce coffee to zero) but I'm holding steady instead. It's *that week* and I'm quite frankly the PMS Queen from H_ll! They should feature me on one of those "dangerous animal" shows in which the host cautiously approaches the creature, arms out, speaking to the camera in a hushed whisper, "Here she is. We don't want to disturb her as she nests in her natural habitat, waiting for the unsuspecting boyfriend to wander past and become her next meal. Notice the bloating through her torso, the wild hair, and the dark gray sweatsuit that indicate she's ready to attack at a moment's notice."

Anyway, steady is the word for this week. How's it going, Deebs?

Thanks. Amelia. Aren't we a dangerous pair? Yes, I hope to continue this SF thing next month. I may do "sugar modding" instead of complete abstinence. We'll see. But I would love it if you'd join me!

As I keep telling my daughter, this "SF thing" for me is all about a change in lifestyle. I fully intend to do a bit of "sugar modding" with you -- wouldn't it be wonderful if in the midsts of PMS-ing we could look at a bar of chocolate and say NAH, I WOULD RATHER HAVE A GLASS OF WATER!!:H
