Sudarshan Kryia Yoga – SKY - a tool for depression

Like many here, I have struggled with depression for many, many years ? that tied in with the whole AL issue just led to a whole lot of mental yuk!!

Since starting this in June this year, I can not begin to describe how much this practise has helped me. The peace and contentment I feel within me is so profound that for the first time in my life I actually feel complete, full.

The course to learn this is run by an organisation called The Art Of Living which ties in with spiritual awareness (and no, it is not a religion. You apply this to your life and beliefs, nothing else changes.) Basically, the practise is broken down into 3 sections; the yoga, the breathing, the meditaton/relaxation. All together is takes about an hour and a half. Personally I try to practise the breathing daily in the morning (30 mins) and do the whole once a week.

The rhythmic breathing has a physiological impact as well as psychological. In the process of flooding your body with oxygen, you are detoxing and your parasympathetic and sympathetic nervous systems become aligned. At the same time your mind quietens and your awareness returns to the body. With a clear mind, looking at life with a broad perspective comes naturally. My life has not changed in the last month or so, but it ?looks? so very different.

Thanks for listening and take care
