    What should I eat?

I am just beginning for AF journey...I've been an "every other day" drinker....but not anymore. I really want to be AF now.

I've been taking several supplements: Multi-vitamin. Super B Complex, Magnesium, Calcium, milk thistle. I just started L-Glutamine capsules. I feel pretty good. No cravings for sugar or alcohol...I hope it keeps up.

I want to start a healthy diet. I eat too much junk food. I'm not exactly overweight, but I do want to lose a few pounds (maybe 10 lbs). And I want to heal my body from the AL.

What am I supposed to eat? I've read to avoid sugar. Does that include fruit? Should I eat all vegetables? I know I need some protein too so I was thinking chicken and fish. Also, what are some good ideas for healthy snacks?

Thanks everyone...many blessings on your road to recovery...

    Very good questions Fragile,
Is there any chance that you can consult with a dietician? They give out whole, healthy eating plans. But it sounds as if you have the right idea - cut out junk food and bring in natural foods.
    Good luck.

      FragileFlower,
Your grandmother was right: lots of fruits and vegetables, especially leafy green (cooked or raw), whole grains as well. Eat beans, chicken and fish for protein. Avoid highly processed foods especially trans fats (hydrogenated or partially hydrogenated vegetable oil). Don't worry about natural sugars. I like the book Volumetrics by Barbara Rolls - she is a dietitian. Also, google the term "super foods" for the best foods to eat.

I keep this snack on hand, so I avoid eating worse things: mix together equal parts of almonds, walnuts, dried cranberries, and toasted soy nuts. Eat and enjoy! These are all super foods (depending on which list you consult; not all are exactly the same).

      I wish you well!

        Hi fragile flower and welcome!

How exciting for you to begin the AF journey! Remember to make sure you drink 8 -10 glasses of water a day as well. Great plan to take supplements. You might consider adding a fish oil, C, and take a look at your mag / cal ratio - should be 1:2.

You can get protien from quinoa (a grain), and whey or hemp powder supplements.

IT is helpful to eat well and regularly to keep your blood sugar stable. Try to make your diet as un-processed as you can.

        Best of luck to you!!

Sounds quite yummy! I would like to add: SOY reduces your thryroid function, so if your have or tend toward hypothyroidism it's good to avoid it. I ate lots of soy for years and now deal with hypothyroidism.

                Jenn,
Thanks for some interesting reading. I didn't know there were people out there saying that soy has its downside until I googled "soy danger" after seeing your comment. I will probably keep it in my snack mix because I don't consume big quantities of it, but it is always good to be well-informed. This link is interesting: The Science Behind Soy

Scrambled egg with 1 full egg and 1 egg white. Lots of amino acids to be had here. Maybe add some chopped chilli (full off minerals and also kicks starts the metabolism):goodjob:

I'm sort of sparse with soy. I only eat it because it is in something I want to eat and as a meat replacement. You might want to know your source. Monsanto is determined to have us ingest herbicides.

                      I second this. ^

Lots of whole grains, too...barley, brown rice, quinoa, millet. As for fruits, I'd avoid table grapes (more sugar, less fiber) but apples and berries are fantastic.

7 weeks is a great book. my aunt worked in a rehab/detox clinic that followed her dietary advice and she has great things to say about it.
