    Monsanto rant

I make an instant lemonade with water, half a squeezed lemon and stevia. Voila! Add ice if desired. Can use ascorbic acid if lemon not on hand. I always have ascorbic acid in my cache. I love perrier with PURE cranberry or pomegranate!

        Yay! Love this thread!

Okay, with a couple of exceptions 'cuz I'm still an Obama girl. (Though outraged by the Monsanto apptmt. and lots of other things. Sigh. Business as usual. Our poor Gulf!) Still, don't want to digress into that!
I can't believe what we've done with our food! Food, Inc is a breakthrough! Even my devout carnivore husband is enthusiastically eating organic kale.
I read Eating Animals recently. Fascinating, sickening stuff. And am now reading The Omnivore's Dilemma. Better, IMHO than Eating Animals. There is a farm mentioned: Polyface Farms in Virginia. The farmer's a hoot! And their website is worth checking out for sure.
I have also long suspected that there is a link between my blood sugar levels, and my cravings for AL. And wonder, too, if the addiction aspect isn't greatly affected by nutritional deficits (even before the addiction took hold...)
Anyway, great to see that so many of us from all over are thinking about this.

If you are looking for local farmers to buy from, this site might be helpful. (USA) Eat Wild That's how I found the farmer where we get beef and pork every fall/winter.

www.localharvest.com has some good info about farmers market locations and stuff like that.

          Monsanto makes me ill.

Hey Research! Glad you found the thread. I haven't read either of those books you mention but I've certainly heard the Omnivore's Dilemma mentioned more than once as a great read. Hope you're feeling better.

This was very disappointing news to read techie. It makes me very sad, but I can say I'm not surprised at all. . . . . the public at large has very little idea what happens to their food. They wouldn't eat a lot of it if they did . . . .

If you can't afford organic spray your fruits and veggies with peroxide then cider vinegar than rinse well w/ water. Berries are good to go just washed with water! MOSANTO BASTARDS!!!

Good tip - I've always bought the fruit & veggie 'wash' from the store. Never thought about vinegar & peroxide. Of course, in summer, I can buy from the local farmers market here, so I get a lot of things that are grown local & organic - which is great.

Geez fear mongering from the ultimate beast! Think of all the animals that will be fed this now.

I believe grapefruit seed extract will break down the chemical residues on the skins as well.

Have to watch the berries as they are the most heavily sprayed. Especially strawberries. Go organic when you can!

                          Monsanto rant

Great thread. My little dog is suffering from horrible skin allergies so I called my pet sitter who is also a pet nutritionist for some advice. Apparently it's the food I am giving her. It's a high end dog food, but she told me that any dog food claiming to include "meat" can use, and does use the meat from euthanized animals.

I also give her chicken jerky, I checked and it's made in China and she told me it could be anything because there are no standards in China but it is not likely to be white chicken jerky at all.

She also mentioned that even Science Diet isn't good and don't buy any pet food from the supermarket.

Her suggestions are: Orijen, Acana and for treats Merrick lamb treats. In my dog's case she suggested Great Life Enzymes and yogurt to boost her immune system.

I thought I was buying the best, but you never know.

SKendall, some dogs will respond to Benadryl for skin allergies. You may want to talk to your vet - some people have used it successfully. I had a dog that had terrible allergies and she never responded to it (we tried a baby dose), so ultimately she was on prescription food & on & off prednisone most of her life. I tried everything to keep her off of anti-inflammatory drugs, but unfortunately nothing worked & I had no choice. She would scratch till she bled . . . Anyway, I know that the dog boutique up the street from me highly recommends Acana. My dogs got really sick after eating some "chicken jerky" - now for something special they get bison chips that are all organic from my farmers market. They are grain free and come from a local company here. I'm sure you may be able to find something similar closer to you. Too bad we have to worry about all of this isn't it?

I use the same washing method on my organic fruits and veggies. E-coli is a problem in nature. I always look upon those in the organic industry who slander other aspects of the organic industry, i.e., farming. In the LIVESTRONG article Stuart Thompsom represents GAIA organics research which sell products. Please note that Mr Thompson:
                                * Uses parabens, which are banned by every organic certification body in the world.
                                * Uses petrochemicals (mostly mineral oil), which are also banned by all organic certification bodies. in his line of products.

He states that ingesting small amounts of pesticides is better than ingesting the fungi from natural farming methods. If you wash the fruits and veggies you can elimate 100% of fungi. You can never elimate 100% of the pesticide...UNBELIEVEABLE!
