Thanks Chiquita. I know what you mean. Dete, Chi, do you two ever consider finding a place to live that has land for farming so you aren't dependent on commercial fruit and vegetables eggs etc? I find myself cruising the MLS for large acreage lots and also there are sites like farmandland I think it is.

LABEL GMO FOOD!!
I feel like I have the right to know what is in the food I purchase. It makes me angry that manufacturers hide ingredients that I would not knowingly purchase so that they can make a profit off me at the expense of my well being. If you feel that way, you can be heard in the GMO labeling movement.

Chiquita, that is a dream for me, buying real milk from a real dairy. In CA, my friend with a dairy tells me they have not legally been allowed to drink their cows milk for ten or fifteen years due to the pasteurization etc rules/regs.
And green, the GMO thing makes me crazy too. Monsanto is a monster.

I know, I know, it is still poison and that is bad, but us small farmers raise crops too, and that's how we make a living. And it's easy to mislead people with only part of the facts.
If a farmers crop harms my family, myself and the whole ecosystem of this planet, I DON'T CARE IF ITS FEEDING HIS FAMILY. Maybe I should get all my kids vaccinated and mercury fillings put in their teeth because Doctors are just trying to make a living.
Your typical corn that is bought in the grocery store, the GMO stuff that "most farmers" use is regulated by the EPA because it has bacteria genetically modified into it that makes pesiticide. Bacteria that continue to make the same pesticide in your own stomach.
Typical farmers are ignorant, compliant and scared. I am not saying its all their fault. I've seen the strong arm (illegal) tactics these companies use to scare farmers through physical intimidation and asinine copy right laws, tying up millions of dollars in court fees before anyone sees the inside of a court room.
I can point the finger at the government, Monsanto, farmers---but the whole system is broken. I might unknowingly support that broken system, but I will not verbally defend it, ever.?Everybody is a genius. But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid.?

Hi everyone! Great Halloween avis, alot of fun and creativity going on here. Thanks Zen, I hadn't seen that.
I voted today at the store, Green, I was thinking, I could buy this Fair Trade blackstrap for twice the price as the other organic choices, but I want to vote this way.
Its actually a great way to give back too, I've been contributing monies for years to the Red Cross and battered women and SPCA and disaster victims (tsunami, etc) and you remind me to go for it at the store too.
Its not just about the quality of food or the money you write off in taxes because you contribute dollars. Its kindness of heart, desire for a whole food and fair trade world where we have labels and choices and freedom in every sense of the word.
You can also vote with your ballot - wasn't it McCain who tried to take away our ability to purchase supplements? Who else is trying to do that today, I bet someone here knows. What party to vote for? And I also consider that any party currently in power is under immense pressure and HAS to make concessions in some areas to get votes in another - the whole pork barrel politics thing is about that, right? Isn't that how the FDA got polluted? I know that history, but can't recall it but here's a nice blurb that fits into this thread:
"Prior to the FDA's issuance of its May 1992 policy statement presuming that GE foods are generally recognized as safe (GRAS), its own experts had expressed concerns about the unique potential health hazards of these new foods in numerous memos to agency decision-makers. The pervasiveness of the concerns within the scientific staff is attested by a memo from an FDA official stating: "The processes of genetic engineering and traditional breeding are different, and according to the technical experts in the agency, they lead to different risks." (FDA Administrative Record)"
"Accordingly, it is obvious that the FDA's claims (issued in May, 1992 and repeated up to the present) that there is general recognition of safety are not only false but fraudulent. Moreover, the agency has flatly denied having any information showing that GE foods differ in any meaningful way from other foods, even though its own files are replete with such information, much of it from its own experts. One of the most blatant examples of such fraudulent misrepresentation is the following assertion in the agency's formal policy statement of May 29, 1992: "The agency is not aware of any information showing that foods derived by these new methods differ from other foods in any meaningful or uniform way..." It is difficult for a reasonable man or woman to regard this statement as anything other than a calculated attempt to deceive the public and evade the law."

this is well worth the read and quite eye-opening and educational. we need to pressure Obama to come through with his promise on labeling GMO foods as he said he would mandate 'immediately' upon holding the presidency. Sadly I'm not holding my breath

Worst company of 2011
Monsanto, the world leader in genetically modified (GM) crops and seeds, has been named the worst company of 2011 by Natural Society -- for "threatening both human health and the environment."

Monsanto has been working their R&D division on an aluminum resistant crop gene. Aluminum is toxic to most if not all commercially mass produced farm crops. This gene is their attempt at monopolizing the crop yields worldwide with GM produced crop products that thrive in aluminum contaminated soils.. Scary shit. I see these chemtrails weekly here in Arizona. The aerosols these chemtrails contain have high levels of aluminum and barium. Thoughts people ?Outside of a dog a book is mans best friend.
