This just came to me - if it's already been posted, oooops . . .

I've stayed pretty much informed about the food scene since John Robbins' "Diet for a New America," and have appreciated this thread, although not participated.

Monsanto VP named to FDA

I'm sure you all in the u.s. are on top of what's happening there, but this is pretty outrageous.

President Obama has appointed former Monsanto VP and lobbyist Michael Taylor to become senior advisor to the FDA's commissioner. This unthinkable linkage between food safety and corporate interests that have little regard for the public health must be stopped. This example of a "fox watching the henhouse" is inexcusable. President Obama must reverse this unimaginably dangerous policy and isolate the FDA from corporate influence.

He just did for the FDA what he did for the incredibly corrupt banking industry early in his term. I don't know if he's a great guy or not. If he is a "great guy," the office of president is a pretty powerless place to be.

Food Standards Australia and New Zealand state that GM must be labelled GM Labelling - Food Standards Australia New Zealand
BUT then here they have approved under the exemption clause

There you go consumer if you don't dig you will be reassured.
If you search FSANZ fo food processing enzymes genitically modified you will find a list of reports - again you have to dig, food processing enzymes are really food additives and indeed some of them in the avaiable literature are there to act in the human alimentary tract. I was alerted to this subset via the website or the office of gene regulatory authority.

Both of these sites acknowledge we have GMO on the market and we are supposed to have labelling and then make it difficult to track exemptions = deception, lies, corruption - the urge to switch to CAPs is hard to resist but I will not shout at friends.

China incinerated the corn because it too has a GMO agenda and therefore wants to use its' own.

Having read this thread from beginning to end I would also like to say glyphosate (roundup) is a systemic herbicide there is no safe time to spray it on a crop. Once sprayed it gets into the soil and is taken up by the plant root system and sent to every single cell in the plant, you cannot "wash it off" because it is outside inside and in every leaf or fruit.

GM is now also used in vaccine production, therapuetic goods, animal foods, ......I'll do some more research.

Interesting too Obama has signed off on the Monsanto protection bill and because our stupid government here has signed a trade agreement we must abile by that!!!!

In regards to those GM food processing enzymes
Maltogenic amylase is used in baking/starch processing
Lipase is used in processing oils and fats,cheese,baked goods, baby foods, noodles and pasta.
Pectin methylesterase is used for firming fruit and vegetables, not sure how they do that?
6-phytase cannot find much on this one except that it would be aiming to cope with Phytates which are high in grains and cereals particularly whole grains.
glucose oxidase used in baking mixes and baked goods
ice structuring protein used in icecream
phospholipase A1 used with oils
asparaginase cookies,crakers, snacks and coffee.

Like GM food these should be available non GM, even with truthful labeling though they might fly under the radar
