Timeframe for L-Glutamine to Stop Cravings

    Good Morning Everyone,

I have taken two 1,000 mg. doses of L-Glutamine and found it has done little to stop my cravings for alcohol and carbs. Does anyone know about how long it takes for it to actually start working so I can recognize that my cravings are substantially less?

Thanks to all of you who respond and have a wonderful day!

Hi Rusty, I take 5000mg at a time to control cravings. If you are using powder, thats 1 teaspoon
In the early days I would take it twice a day and some directly under the tongue if they were bad. This worked very well for me

      L-Glutamine

      Hi Startingover,

Thank you SO much for the quick response. I am taking the capsules and obviously I am not taking enough! I'll certainly up the dosage to 5,000 mg. because I am certainly willing to do it if it helps! Do you think the powder is better than the capsules?

Thank you again...I really appreciate it!

        No probs Rusty :-)
I like the powder because its cheaper and I can buy in bulk. Plus the dosages I take would be way too many capsules to swallow for me. I just dissolve mine in juice or water and down the hatch it goes.

          Startingover,

Great advice! I will run out and get the powder right away. I also love your avatar....that is exactly how I would feel in a swimsuit right now except your squirrel looks a helluva better than I do...hence, the L-Glutamine solution ;-)

          Thanks again,

I ordered L-Glutamine and took according to directions. It gave me heart burn. I have a sensitive stomach so maybe that's what happened. any help?

                Cinellie,

Did you take the powder form or the pills? The powder form is tasteless and I take it first thing in the morning and then between meals. 3,000 mg. which is a little less than a teaspoon. I have a sensitive stomach, too, so the only think I can think of is maybe it's interacting with other meds you are taking?

L-glut should be taken on an empty stomach with juice and b vitamins.
5 grams in powder form in juice, morning, mid-day and evening (or skip the evening).
I doubt this will bother your stomach, and even if it doesn't help the cravings, it will help your intestines and your body to heal from the alcohol abuse.
It doesn't help with the cravings for me, but I have studied it so much that I am convinced it is essential.
And drop the pills. It's so much easier with the powder -- cheaper, too. And works much faster.

I pop a teaspoon of powder in my morning porridge and 1 in my hot milk at night. In my experience it helps with the cravings along with diet and your own attitude. Which is how I think most supplements are supposed to perform.

L glut (and all amino acid supplements) should be taken on an empty stomach with no other protein sources, preferably in the morning or between meals...

There is an explanation for this somewhere that has to do with how the aminos make chains and bind to each other and the aminos in protein disturb this... something like that... can't remember-- I'm sure you could google it and get the answer.

All I know is that I have heard this over and over -- l-glut on an empty stomach, together with juice and b vitamins.

Here is a description about l-glut:

                        Hi Rusty,

I've been looking to buy L-Glutamine in powder form most sites seem to promote it as a body building formula is that the stuff you buy. I know LG does promote muscle healing etc just wanted to make sure I'm looking to buy the right thing.
The tablets I bought were 1000mg from a local health store... sorry if I'm asking a daft question!

                            Hi grangelady,

I've got mine in powder form from my health store and was very worried it was used for body builders. It's the right stuff you've got there.

                              Thanks for replying so quickly...
What dosage do you take? Do you take any other meds/supps with it? I'm only just starting out, 6 days of 1 x 25mg Topamax, 1500mg Kudzu and 1000mg LG and if I'm honest I'm not feeling the effects that helpful.
Others on the site have said it's trial and error and I need to play around with doses and find what suits me, so any advice would be welcomed
                              Many :thanks::thanks:
