    l-glut once a day??

I would like to start taking l-glut for cravings. I really only start to get the craving for alcohol in mid afternoon. Could I take a big dose (on an empty stomach) around 3:00 to curb the craving for the rest of the evening? Or does it have a cumulative effect, so I should take it throughout the day? I thought I would either take 3,000 mg. 3 times/day, or a larger dose once a day at 3:00 pm. What do you think? Thanks!

I think it is recommended that you keep the level in your system up and take extra for "withching hours" . 9,000 a day sounds hefty to me. I'd start with 1,000 X 3 a day. See how you feel. Take an extra 1,000 under the tongue in afternoon if you need it.

I take the powder form...a little less than a teaspoon is 3,000 mg. I take it when I first get up in the morning.....midafternoon and before bed. All on an empty stomach. Gives me more energy and so helps with the cravings. I Googled it and some recovering alcoholics take up to 14,000 mg. per day. Good luck!!

          l-glut once a day??

I had great success using L-Glut to help ease the cravings. I took 1000 mg's 3 times a day and also used it as an "emergency remedy" when cravings were stronger....in emergency situations I just put the powder under my tongure, (1,000 mgs) for quick absorbtion. It really helped!

Like Greenie already said, I believe that building up a regular level of L-Glut is really the key. Also keep in mind that L-Glut eases the cravings, but you might and probably also need to use self control and other tools as well.

          Best Wishes!

Thank you so much for the responses! I had read a post that suggested at least 2,000-3,000 mg. 3 times a day so I thought I would try that. But maybe I will first try 1,000mg. 3 x day and see how that works. I pray it helps!!

Green, have you considered kudzu as well?

Yes, I have. I had ordered some through a mail order company and it did nothing. Then found out that some kudzu is better than others (such as the Kudzu Rescue on this site). Unfortunately money is tight and I was trying to find one supplement that 1. I could afford and 2. that many people seemed to have success with. My drinking isn't out of control (YET) but I am dissappointed in myself that I just can't give up daily wine. Thanks so much for your caring!

I see. I'd go with the l-glute then. You can get it in bulk powder that I believe is less expensive than capsules.

                    l-glut once a day??

I have done quite a bit of research on this, and based on my research and my own experience, l-glut is optimal at 3,000-5,000mg per dose, up to 3xday, on an empty stomach with a little fruit juice and vitamin C.

The numbers I have heard indicate that it is completely safe at 15grams per day, and this is optimal for alcoholics, and recovering alcoholics. This is based on not just curbing cravings, but also getting the body and brain in balance.

I do believe if you take 5,000 mg a half-hour before you would normally drink, it may help your willpower to not drink, but it will not eradicate cravings.

I also think, that as others say, that it should be taken regularly as well.

btw, l-glut is very beneficial for much more than cravings -- see the thread by DeeBee (benefits of l-glut) to see all the benefits.

As Greenie (greeneyes, that is) says, definitely get the powder form -- it is much cheaper, and when you mix it with juice it has practically no taste. I mix it with water (and take a swig of juice after), and it is almost tasteless -- slightly sweet. And the powder in water form takes effect much faster than capsules, which have to dissolve in the stomach first.

However, capsules are good for traveling and when it is not convenient to have powder and water.
Your time is limited, so don't waste it living someone else's life... And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.

One thing I do if I'm out for a long day and want my powdered L-Glute along is put a scoop in a tiny, over-the-counter medication bottle with a screw top. Advil does a great one for 10 or 12 caps. I can put my measured scoop in and when I want to take it, fill the container with water, shake it, and chug. When I get home, wash and dry it well for next time.
