    My cocktail

    I have only recently discovered supplements such as 5HTP, l-tryptophan, DLPA, DMAE, GABA
    I had no idea these things were out there.

    I've just started DMAE, yesterday, so too early to tell yet. I'll certainly try Kudzu too.

    At present (I've just come off prescription meds)
    I'm taking Milk thistle, for the toxic effects of effexor which I hope will speed up the withdrawal.
    GABA
    DMAE
    low dose of St John's Wort
    zinc
    Rhodiola Rosea

    I'll keep an eye on this thread and would appreciate any recommendations or advice !

    Hi meabh,I'm not sure milk thistle would help with withdrawels.I have been taking it religiously 3 times a day for years and am convinced its the reason for my normal LFT results year after year although my doctor out here in America says its because I'm Irish and have good genes.I'm not familiar with all those supps you mentioned.
    I do take http at night if I think I won't sleep and it knocks me out.

        LOL Phoenix ! Yes I find 5HTP helpful though it gives me very lucid dreams !

        I was reading somewhere that effexor builds up in the liver so it can't do any harm. It may not help with the physical withdrawal but may make the w/d from the medication a little shorter.

          I'm going to add Damiana to my list. It's a tonic and has anti-depressant properties as well as other benefits. Wondered if anyone else has tried it. It has no specific properties relating to alcohol but thought I'd mention it.

            There's also tyrosine, taurine, theonine and P-5-P. And don't forget fish oil!!!!

            Meabh, you're definitely looking in the right direction. I've tried most herbal remedies (really, I'm 54 and have lived among serious herbalists all my life) and find the neurotransmitters to be by far the best - for moi, at least.

            MWO turned me on to L-glutamine and it seriously rocked my world in the very best way. I take 5 GRAMS in the morning and 5 GRAMS in the afternoon. My doctor (a competitive body-builder) knows and approves.
