The Paleo Diet. Learning from our evolution

I'll be attending this on Aug 1st in Reno

I don't have kids, but feel this is a critically important issue for the pursuit of good health and food freedoms.

Sheri, thanks for sharing your story, its very compelling. I too went off gluten, simple sugars, grains and most dairy, and wasn't sure it was doing a whole lot for me except helping with my AL cravings. And then last Thursday, I had a WILD craving for milk and ice cream, like nothing I've ever experienced. It was like I was dying of thirst, I was compelled to run to the store and buy raw whole milk and chocolate milk and ice cream. I'd been off milk for months except for the Fage nonfat unflavored greek yogurt. Off sugar except for the nightly square of semi-sweet chocolate. And then I weighed myself and gained 4lbs in two days of heavy milk product intake. Of course this could have to do with the sugar just as much, but I also had a sinus headache every day. So I'm stopping with the milk again just as soon as this quart of raw is done.
I'm happy for your success! That's great news, to find that kind of relief after so much misery. Keep up the good work!

Sheri what a fabulous success! do you subscribe to Robb's podcasts? they are fantabulous.

Bruunhilde, that much sugar is bound to do some terrible things, but a sugar binge once in a while is better than eating sugar every day. and beats the hell out of an AL binge!

            Hi there Dete,

It was Thurs through today that I had a quart of chocolate milk, 3/4 a quart of whole raw, and four of those little cups of Haagen Daaz that you get for a dollar each? More than I'm used to, do you think that's what the culprit is? Just the sugar. Agreed on the sugar vs AL.

Also, I suspect that was a calcium craving, I've been off my calcium supps for a couple of months. Now I'm back on.

yepper, that's a pretty good dose of sugar and you'll feel it. you know some people do develop a craving for milk and it has to do with an opiate-like reaction some people get from it. I'm not very familiar with this particular modality of dairy metabolism but Chris Kresser and Robb Wolf have both mentioned it in their podcasts.

I do love the milk for some reason sometimes, not sure I get high LOL, that's more like a milk shake with chocolate in it! I think its a combination of the sugar, the calcium, the fact that its dairy, the latter which may have a component of comfort-nostalgia as well as whatever special magic dairy has for me metabolically. I can't say I recall having such a strong craving before and I've been off dairy before for months at a time. How was/is NV?

                            Hi Brun,

Just wondering if it's possible that you're craving milk because you're allergic to it? It seems from what I'm reading that the connection between cravings an allergies is very strong.

That occured to me as well. It was just strange how it happened, because I don't recall ever having that fierce a craving. It was like a bad day when you can't wait to have that first drink, and you have it and feel relief. Or should I say HAD.

It's called "switching" when the body craves that which is not good for it. Call it allergy/poision/whatever. A strange phenomenom in applied kinesiology. Didn't read the original reference Bruun but sounds like dairy is a no no for you.

I've been a low carb eater for nearly 4 years and recently tried Paleo. The only things I needed to eliminate to "go Paleo" were stevia and dairy. I dropped the stevia just fine, but only made it a week without dairy. It was really hard not eating cheese! I didn't notice a difference in the way I felt.
