The Paleo Diet. Learning from our evolution
Ok, this is a doozy of a lecture. very complex/technical but if you really want to understand leptin/insulin pathways, glucose vs fructose etc this is it. Truly brilliant man.

The Paleo Diet. Learning from our evolution
Time for a really quick review of the Berkey water filter I recently acquired. I don't sell them or have any relationship with the company, I just figured I'd report my findings.
I value good quality water for both health and taste reasons. obviously having good clean pure water is critical to systemic health, and water is survival. I've long thought it would be very reassuring to be able to purify my own water in the advent of a protracted power outage. I had previously purchased one of those camping hand-pump type of filters and while that may be fine for camping/short term emergency use they are really slow and labor intensive for daily use. And that's why I pursued the berkey filter since it's gravity fed, yet has extremely efficient and comprehensive filtration that removes a lot more contaminants than the typical table-top units like the Brita (which I have been using for some years),
Anyway, finally got off my butt and ordered one just prior to Thanksgiving, and it showed up a couple days ago nicely boxed. I had ordered the 'travel' model as it's flow rate looked satisfactory for just the two of us. This travel unit filters 1.75 gallons per hour and holds 1.5 gallons of purified water in the storage portion (the part with the spigot). it's only 7 1/2" in diameter and the stainless construction is quite handsome and easy to clean.
set up was so easy I did most of it while on the phone with work on a conference call
and using it is just as easy as dumping water in the top and then using the clean water below.
the taste is awesome! I thought it would taste like clean water but this is really darn good tasting water...a pleasant surprise. one caveat: because you can't see through the stainless steel containers, check first so you know where the water level is...that will prevent you from accidentally overfilling the unit if there's already water in the lower section.
the filters are rated for 6,000 gallons, so I guess time will tell but it seems extremely cost effective and suits my needs very well. it's also small enough to come along camping or travelling.
good clean water is indeed my favorite beverage (right after coffee that's been made with good clean water )nosce te ipsum

The Paleo Diet. Learning from our evolution
Read this post last night as info for one of my resolutions in regards to looking after myself - found Dets post about local farm produce and found a local farm (fesh edible community farm) that i can get a weekly basket and fresh eggs - the basket starts in February - and I found a new store that is the pick up location, but it is a health food/vitamin store - I AM EXCITED!
This website is giving so much to me! Thanks for the links Det!“The only courage you will ever need is the courage to live the life you want"

The Paleo Diet. Learning from our evolution
I just watched the whole link and I believe wholeheartedly that sugar is poison. I've low-carbed for years now, although my consumption of sweets has increased since I quit drinking. The two are definitely connected. I thought it was interesting that Lustig compared sugar to cocaine. Definitely a must watch video!
