The Paleo Diet. Learning from our evolution

absolutely brilliant podcast interview of Dr Thomas Dayspring (Dr Lipid himself)

Interviewing Doctors, Researchers, Scientists, Bloggers and More. | The Livin La Vida Low-Carb Show

I've never had the pleasure of listening to a researcher capable of explaining so well the complete story of blood lipidology as it relates to cholesterol, heart attack risk, testing recommendations that really will save your life (unlike the ones your doctor is most likely giving you now) etc etc.

I'll be listening to this again tonight.

Thank you Determinator. Its no accident I believe that my Grand Mother who lived to the ripe old age of 98 never hospitalized once used to wince in the oldies home at all new fat conscious modified products stuff she was dished up. She hated margarine ..always had her vegetables ect with liberal amounts of Western Star Butter. She was bought up in the late 20s on a isolated rural property where every brekky, lunch and dinner meal was cultivated and eaten from what was available on the property ., Chickens, lamb, Rabbits. She would eat blue berries from the local corporate supermarket and literally spit them out . She said there is no taste such as blueberry picked from the bush the taste is incomparable.

Any way lots to be said for un treated food . thanks for this great thread!

I've been doing LC for nearly a month and learning so much more about it than the few times I'd tried it before. I now realize how important it is to eat lots of fat, lol. Literally the more fat you eat the more you lose. It's completely contradictory to what I'd learned in my 20s and beyond...SUGAR is the enemy, not fat. Who knew?! I am loving it.

Thank you for bumping this. I need to look into this a lot more, I did dismiss as another fad diet, but it looks as if I was too hasty. I have never managed to switch to margarine, it was too false, stuck to butter, but tried to use less. I promise to look more, but as a quick question, what does the diet say regarding eggs - I have never managed to go the egg white route, as with margarine, I would rather do without - the yolks are what make the egg.
In learning from earlier posts by Det I found a produce farm that I now order from, I still look for meat in this area to buy on a regular basis, happily I have found an "occasional" source - I do love this site is changing my AL intake, but also my physical needs and my dietary life - a huge all round improvement!

Scottish Lass, thanks for being open minded. if this is fad it's been going on for 2.2 million known years! it's literally the way we evolved to fuel ourselves. As an analogy, if our known history measures 100 yards, we've only been eating grain, sugar, alcohol, trans fats etc for the last 3/8th of an inch. no wonder we're having issues!

whole eggs all the way! most of the nutrient of eggs is in the yolk. eggs are incredible powerhouses of nutrients. I eat an average of 4 per day, from local sustainable farms that treat their animals well and let them forage outdoors in the sunshine (dramatically increases their vit A and D yield).

                          keep up the great work!

Library Girl, yes it's amazing isn't it? we modern civilizations have made some things better, but generally have buggered up our diet nicely, and the results show.

Yes, I have been looking for sustainably raised foods locally since you posted info months ago, and slowly finding more and more places....

I got this as part of a humor email but it's quite succinct. Obviously the drinking part of the conclusion doesn't apply here.

                              1. The Japanese eat very little fat
And suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.

                              2. The Mexicans eat a lot of fat
And suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.

                              3. The Chinese drink very little red wine
And suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.

                              4. The Italians drink a lot of red wine
And suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.

                              5. The Germans drink a lot of beer and eat lots of sausages and fats
And suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.

                              CONCLUSION:

Eat and drink what you like.
Speaking English is apparently what kills you.
