    Anxiety and Natural (Herbal) Treatments

Thanks again to everyone for the responses. Beatle--tried to send you a pm, but the inbox is full. Valerian root seems to have a mild impact so far, but it is making the dreams awfully vivid. I'll be curious to see how the Holy Basil works for you Blonde.

      hi maslow23,
I suffered from anxiety/panic attacks for a number of years, I wasn't able (or willing?) to accept that my boozing was the trigger especially when coupled with stressful events (panic attacks on transatlantic flights were particularly horrible!). I have had good results with herbal remedies, both brands I have used contain similar ingredients: hops, valerian extract, passiflora. One contained additional B vits, apparently a deficiency of which can increase nervous episodes.
I hope this helps and wish you well. Regards, acorn

Phenibut is supposedly really good for anxiety, it is actually a derivative of GABA BUT it can cross the blood brain barrier, which GABA supplements have a hard time doing, hence why they are ineffective for alot of people. I'm not sure that it's natural tho I'm afraid, I'm just mentioning ti because theres no need for prescription and is apprently effective.

It might pay to be careful tho, as if its taken in high doses it can have pretty nasty withdrawals. I'm about to start it tommorow, I'll let you know how I get on, but I've heard goods things about it .

Kava Kava is apprently quite good too, but some studies suggest it is bad for the liver so you might wanna try and avoid this one - just a word of warning .

St. John Wort (Hypericum) is prescribed in Germany - I think I read 3million prescriptions per year. I take it as needed, find it kicks in quickly and leaves no residual hangover or side effects. You need to mindful if taking it with other ant-depreseent/anxiety meds though as it can play havoc with the raise in seretonin levels with a doubling up effect and occsionally this can create a Seretonin Syndrome which can at worst be lethal. On its own or in combination with B vits and quite large doses of Vit C - up to 12,000.00mg per day in divided doses, can be fantastic. The thereputic dose of Hypericum is around 1800-2000mg x 3 daily.

                    Your welcome Deter,

I have been studying and applying Dr. Hoffers treatments for years with my own son who at 18 years of age, suffered his first episode of psychosis. Ten years later, he is medication free and living a full and happy life. I follow his treatment to repair the biochemical mess of my own brain and body bought on by alcohol abuse.
