    lithium orotate again.

Is this also used for depression? I've been feeling really depressed last couple of days...
I think I'll run out and get some.

      lithium orotate again.

Fluff I don't know that anyone can really say for sure what/who it it will or won't help. Make sure and take your choline with it as I ran out of it and I felt the difference within a few days. It is also recommended that you take it with foilc acid(contained in a good B vit). I have not run out of this so I can't say how much of a difference it would make but choline-yes it mattered to me.

            lithium orotate again.

choline helps to transport the lithium into the cells where it works so it might be less effective if you don't take it.

Well, as luck would have it none of the stores I just went to had it- but I went to one health food store, that carries all kinds of otc stuff- and they had lithium aspartate- the lady said it was the same thing but I said I needed to research it first... guess I will order it on-line.
              Thanks for the info, Coal.
Here's a quickie on the difference between the two...

Hi Fluff. I have read remarks all over the internet saying that the orotate version is much more effective but despite much searching I have never been able to find a study confirming that this is true or why. I found a few remarks here and there saying that it is much more "bioavailable" but again I cant see anything that proves it.I would keep to Orotate just to be on the safe side but I myself would like to find out if/why orotate is better than aspartate. This explains why the orotate version works but it doesn't say anything about it being better than aspartate

                Superiority of Lithium Orotate
The lithium salt of orotic acid (lithium orotate) improves the specific effects of lithium many-fold by increasing lithium bio-utilization. The orotates transport the lithium to the membranes of mitochondria, lysosomes and the glia cells. Lithium orotate stabilizes the lysosomal membranes and prevents the enzyme reactions that are responsible for the sodium depletion and dehydration effects of other lithium salts. Because of the superior bioavailability of lithium orotate, the therapeutic dosage is much less than prescription forms of lithium. For example, in cases of severe depression, the therapeutic dosage of lithium orotate is 150 mg/day. This is compared to 900-1800 mg of the prescription forms. In this dosage range of lithium orotate, there are no adverse lithium side reactions and no need for monitoring blood serum measurements.

                  lithium orotate again.

I have to agree that there is no evidence one is better than the other but lithium asparate does use a mechanism to get into the cells and become bioavailable similar to litium orotate.

How much was it, Fluff? If not too expensive you might want to give it a try.

How long does it take to take effect?

I am getting interested in this, now, myself.

                    Thanks!!

                          lithium orotate again.

I am going to wait until the results of my urinalysis come back before I order it.

If the results are fine, I am considering starting on Lithium Orotate, too.

I will ask Dr. Levin if I can get in contact with him, if it is alright to take with Baclofen.

                          Thanks for the info.

I bought mine on Amazon for about $10.00- they are 5mg tablets- also the lithium asparate is a bit different as it is more of an excitotoxin as per my quickie article I posted above..here is an excerpt from that-
                              Lithium Aspartate Vs. Lithium Orotate
Most proponents of low-dose lithium therapy such as Dr. Jonathan Wright recommend them equally. However, aspartate is considered to be an excitotoxic amino acid. Excitotoxins are substances that bind to a nerve cell receptor and cause damage via over-stimulation. According to Dr. Russell Blaycock, author of, "Excitotoxins: The Taste That Kills", excess aspartate may result in excitotoxic reactions in sensitive individuals.

In contrast to the above, a study conducted at the Baker Medical Research Institute in Australia found that orotic acid on its own may have cardio protective benefits. Orotic acid has also been used for conditions such as multiple sclerosis, hepatitis and premature aging. Body builders sometimes use orotic acid because it is believed to enhance the production of ATP, a key component of cellular metabolism.

                                lithium orotate again.

Update on my LO experience - I was taking 5 pills a day in the afternoon and then 25mg of baclofen at the witching hour. I found the LO effect very very subtle and wasn't sure if it helped or was psychosomatic. The baclofen was a little more dramatic - sometimes it seemed to have no impact, and sometimes it helped me sleep better. But again, I had a few variables during that time, it's been I guess three weeks or more? I was on and then off AL and a diet for 14 days, and felt awful (horrible hangover and low blood sugar, shakey) when I went off the diet and on the AL, went to my hotel room to search desperately for baclofen or LO. Too many things going on to know what worked and what didn't since I was also on HCG those 14 days and that has an appetite/craving reduction effect. I wondered during those days if I was able to be AF for the first time for more than four days, due to the HCG. I'd like to experiment with that after I get my heart checked out this week.

Anyways, I know this isn't probably helpful, I'm just thinking out loud to try and sort it out.
