    Heart Disease

Has anyone heard of Linus Pauley, who claims high dose vitamin C and non-binding supplements can "cure" heart disease?

I like any natural approach to replace the huge healthcare machine in America and all it's pharma reps and doctors believing their rap.

    Has anyone tried this?

    Heart Disease

We have also discovered that substances that inhibit the binding of Lp(a) to components of the arterialwall, particularly to fibrinogen, fibrin and fibrin degradation products herein identified as binding inhibitors, such as lysine or aminocaproic acid used alone or in combination with ascorbate, cause release of Lp(a)
from the arterial wall. Thus, ascorbate and such binding inhibitors are not only useful for the prevention of occlusive cardiovascular disease, but also for the treatment of such disease. The present invention, then, provides methods and pharmaceutical agents for the both the treatment and prevention of occlusive cardiovascular disease in vivo.

Yes Croc, that was a link (or it was supposed to be) to Linus Pauling's method. Green, thanks, sounds great! I have a pool, maybe it's time to use it. :H

          Hi everyone,

Isolde told me that taking coconut oil lowered her blood pressure, so I'm trying to take it daily. She also told me diotomaceous earth (food grade not pool grade) also does this and has other benefits. Both of these are potentially healthful additions to any diet but in particular if you have hypertension. The DE also helps cholesterol according to websites googled.

            Mickeymac,
There is conflicting research on fat in diet. Have you ever read Good Calories, Bad Calories by Gary Taubes? I am very skeptical of low fat diets! Especially since I am prone to depression, I need plenty of good dietary fat! Since I upped my fat intake, I am thinner. But I have also cut out grains, and of course sugar. I don't know about my arteries, as I havent been to the doctor in awhile....
I have read bad things about vegetable oils, so I stick to coconut oil, butter and olive.
My understanding is that low fat may be worse, something to look into, not sure. I guess Jane Brody, the New York Times health columnist, had high cholesterol or something, then went on an extremely low fat diet, her numbers really went up, and now is on statins.

              Hi Bruun and crocster,

              Great Find and great link!

And Doctors are still doing bypass surgeries.
              Isn't that amazing?

I guess only we can cure ourselves!

              Cheers,

Bruun, the AL is such a HUUUUUUUGE contributor to hypertension. I know all these other things (i.e. coconut oil) help. I know AL free will help too. :l

                  Hi DG,

Yes. You are right. When I drink a lot for days my BP can go up to 200-210 / 90-100
If I am sober it is around 140-150 / 70-80.
                  Also losing weight also helps.

Here is another great you tube clip (3) that I have just found.

Yes, I know, the AL is huge as is the weight. But I had hypertension when I didn't drink nearly this much, and was normal weight, and a health nut in my twenties. Thus I doubt I can completely rid myself of it, however, the high fat diet instead of the low fat lore of the 90's may break me through to the other side. I am hopeful. Drinking less these days and losing weight due to GI stress and careful diet.

I wanted to update the heart disease "fix" by Paulings as much for everyone else as for myself. I want to have the summary handy here with the caveot that this may need updating as I've been told supplementing with vitamin E is not usually recommended - its a blood thinner but I thought there was some other reason to not add it but it is listed here and I do know people who take it:

                      Hi Bruun,

                      Thanks again for posting this.
At the company I work for, most of the people takes high doses of Vitamin C and Lysine now.
It is so good that this knowledge is going around!

                      Thanks again,

Kudos on the regiment. It sounds like your doing great.

I just want to point out one small detail, fat and cholesterol are not the "devil" they have been made out to be.

I recently read a article, I need to find it now, that showed how heart disease is really the bodies way of creating more cholesterol, where one might need it most. It is a survival mechanism. It is a last ditch effort for the body to raise cholesterol levels. Without it =heart failure.

I dont expect you to take my word for it. I realize the idea "could" sound absurd. Give me a day or 2 and Ill edit the link into my post I think you will find it fascinating.

                          Hi there,

SMacG, if you're talking to me about fat and cholesterol, I was referring to the low fat diet regimen of the 80/90's, not today's. Today is all about fat being good and simple carbs/starches making you unhealthy. My doc has wanted me on statins for years but I refuse. I take niacin, omega 3, tons of fiber, etc and so far all checks out. Numbers are higher than the docs like (cholesterol) but I don't believe cholesterol is anything but one indicator/symptom - of a greater issue - that the pharma industry has grabbed onto as a way to make money. I've read soooo many books on this and other stuff. Heal yourself with food!

If there's one question I have about Paulings theory it's this: is avoiding supplemental calcium really a good idea? I eat greek yogurt and raw milk and full fat cottage cheese. I believe these to be good calcium carriers so maybe I don't need to. But I don't want osteoporosis and I do supplement with cal/mag/d.
