    Looking for a little support

    Hello,

Every night I drink one or more bottles of wine. Every morning I get up and I say I'm not going to do this AGAIN! I take my Vitamin C powder & B Complex. I sometimes take B1. I throw in a tablespoon of Glutamine Powder most days. As the day goes on I take Chromium and Cysteine and a whole food Vitamin w/minerals. I take an extra selenium. I take a Calcium, Magnesium, D & Phosphorous combo. I sometimes take a multi-amino combo but by the afternoon I am making excuses and saying just one more day, etc. etc. I have been doing the one more day thing for at least 10 years. What a joke.

I eat a plant based diet. I rarely and I mean rarely crave or eat sugar (I know alcohol is sugar.) I eat tons of vegetables, stay away from all processed products. I use whole grain locally milled flour and eat very little dairy. Any meat I eat (not much-don't like it) is locally and organically grown or fished.

I guess I am "lucky" Hah. I get more energy when I drink. It calms me so much, numbs my irritability. Makes me feel great. I rarely get hangovers though I think I am getting more lately. (Interesting.)

A few years ago I read 7 weeks to sobriety and managed 3 weeks without. Had my birthday - thought I could have one glass. That was it. Other than when pregnant I drink every day. I am not around any other drinkers. My husband will have a beer once or twice a week.

I believe strongly that this needs to be approached from a nutritional bio-chemical mega vitamin stand point. I just don't know which ones will finally do the trick for me. I think maybe I am not consistent enough. I tend to drop off the supplements by afternoon - just in time to start drinking again.

My goal is to go one day without - starting today.
My throat is constricting at the thought. If any of you have similar stories and have a trick you could share with me please do. I want to not need and enjoy this stuff so much. Thank you. :upset:

Spectrum, first of all :welcome: Great job on taking steps to reclaim you life!

Regarding the supplements, I personally feel they are essential and need to be taken religiously. RJ did a lot of research and came up with some solid, specific recommendations. You might want to take a look in her book and mimic what she recommends. I have been AF a long time and still take the all-one powder every day along with a calcium complex made by the same company. she has specific quantities recommeded for l-glutamine and a schedule to follow to keep it at consistent levels in your bloodstream - plus extra at your witching hour(s). "Most days" may not be working for you like it should. Aminos on a regular basis are essential as well. sounds like you have some good stuff and are a healthy eater - just kick it up a notch. This thread (holistic) has buckets of information for you! You can do this!

Thankyou. Thankyou. I rushed through her book years ago before I got 7 weeks. I will buy another. I found the 'Just starting out' thread. I have looked at this one tons of times because I have strong belief in taking care of your body (except where it comes to alcohol. It's the only addiction I have left.) and supplementing for health. I know myself and I am really a nutrition nut and so I am deeply puzzled at why I allow myself to drink in excess when I KNOW it's terrible for my body!!!!!

        Hi Spectrum,

Great to see you here, I am and have been many times where you are today. I did ten years of "just one more day" and then, after using Topiramate and the supplements from Seven Weeks and RJ's book I was AF for four days. THAT was huge for me. I dropped off here feeling unsupported and gave up trying to moderate or not drink, then I got "ready" again and came back here. I gained personal relationships with people on the meds threads and started trying a few meds. I was able to get AF (alcohol free) for ten days! Then I started again and was sunk for a month or two in alcohol hell. (don't ever start hard liquor, its got a grib more harsh than wine). THEN somehow I got ready again, and went AF for a week, but I find I fall down on the 5th or 6th day, and especially around my period. I need to normalize my hormones and my blood sugar to have more control. I'm working on that by taking protein shakes here and there, and putting L-glut in it. I try to have glutamine 3x day, if I only take it in the AM it doesn't help.

Anyways, I thought sharing my story would be a starting point for you. I've heard from others that faltering at first is okay, and the story of alot of us. But gaining that first AF day that you're aiming for, is huge. It will give you hope and strength to do more.

I'm rooting for you. I'm getting better slowly, and I know you can too. The Need Help thread gets more attention as does the Meds thread area, and Just Starting Out. I don't check in here as often and alot of people don't. General Discussion is also pretty good. Anyways, PM me if you need support and PM others whose threads touch you, and start some relationships. The support of others in your shoes makes all the difference, when no one around you can relate to the struggle.

        :l hugs

        B

I am just so relieved in the weirdest way to know I'm not the only woman out here with this baffling secret.

I made it. I thought I was going to 'die' a few times. Supper Cooking and Cleaning up from was extremely difficult. Extremely. It was interesting sharing supper with my family without a buzz on. (I remember thinking that a few years ago too.) I always think my husbands grouchiness is because of my drinking. I was stone sober last night and he was his normal miserable self. Truthfully, I don't even think he realizes how much I drink.

It was great to be 'there' for my children though. Really great.

I picked up some Gaba Calm - similar to True Calm which is not available in my town. I had forgotten how great Gaba makes me feel! I only had Taurine on hand for daily taking. Just took a big glass of water and Glutamine and I am going to attempt a short run and then check on my business and get my backside home past the grocery store before any of this wears off!!!!

Great job, spectrum!!! I remember doing many, many things sober for the first time and it was really strange. Like vaccuming. Packing/unpacking a suitcase. But doing those things sober creates a new memory for you on a cellular level and you can draw upon it for strength from now on and even more so as you build upon it. It has a snowball effect in a positive way. Keep it up!
